The document discusses the new grading system implemented by DepEd and interviews conducted with resource teachers and students about their views on the new system.

According to the interview with the resource teacher, the bases for grading include written work, performance tasks, and quarterly assessments. Scores are computed through a weighted grading system.

According to the research, best practices include understanding curriculum alignment and standards-based assessments, communicating the research behind the grading system, and using grading to communicate achievement and provide incentives for learning.

Activity 3: Grade Computation

Show sample computation of a grade in a subject of your choice either from Grade 1 to 10 or from Grades 11 and 12. Show percentage
contributions of written work, performance tasks and quarterly assesment. Then give the descriptor. (Ask your Resource Teacher for
his/her help).

Subject: Filipino Grade: Senior High .

Steps
1. Get the total score for each component.
Learner's Raw Score Highest Possible Score

Written Work 1 15 20

2 20 20

3 7 20

Learner's Raw Score Highest Possible Score

Performance Task 1 8 10

2 28 30

3 8 10

4 30 30

Quarterly Assessment (Test) Learner's Raw Score Highest Possible Score

31 50

2. Obtain te Percentage Score for each of the component by dividing the total raw Percentage Score of Written Work 74.29 %
Percentage Score of Performance Task 92.5 %
score by the highest possible score then multiply the quotient by 100%. Percentage Score of Quarterly Assessment __ 62 %_

3.Convert Percentages Scores to weighted scores by multiplying the percentage Percentage Score of Written Work 74.29 %
score by the weight of the component. Refer to Tables on weights of Components Percentage Score of Performance Task 92.5 %
Percentage Score of Quarterly Assessment 62 %
per subject for Grades 1 to 10 and for Grades 11 t0 12 on pp. 91-92.

4. Add the weighted Scores of each component. This will give you the initial grade. 80.94 %
5. Transmute the initial Grade using the transmulation Table in Appendix G. 88.00 %
6. Give the descriptr of the computed final grade of the subject. Refer to Table of
descriptors on p. 92 Very Satisfactory

Analyze data and information gathered from the interview.

1. Do teachers/students like the new grading system? Why or why not?

Yes, she like the new grading system because the students do their best to become an honor students or to get an average
of 90% above.

2. What are the good points of the new grading system?

Most of the reason why she like the grading system is, It is easy to encode outputs of the students and it is focused in the
performance of the students.

3. What are teachers challenges to do by this new grading system?

Teachers challenged to be the facilitators of learning and they are tasked to assist the learners by giving them the right
knowledge about a certain topic, as well as making them understand of their common objectives.

4. Do you favor the distribution of percentages of written work, performance tasks and quarterly assessment?
Yes i am favor, I understandthat Deped try to meet the needs of the younger generation of students.

5. Do Anderson's and Krathwohl's cognitive process dimensions include Kendall's and Marzano's (retrieval, understanding, analysis
and knowledgeutilization)?
Yes they have similarities, the dimension of Anderson's and Krathwohl's cognitive includes Kendall's and marzano's
cognitive.

6. Did you like the experience of computing grades? Why or why not?
Yes, I like the experience of computing grades because it is very easy and simple.
My Reflections

In an era where the emphasis is self-directed learning, demostration of knowledge, skills and values learned (outcomes-based
education) do grades really matter?
For me, yes grades really matter because it is the summation of our performance in the class. it emphasize the
recognition of students positive achievement and comparing their current performance to the previous and track
their progress.

What are your thoughts about the reflection of core values of the Filipino child in the Report Card?
For me, It is appropriate to use the core values in the Report Card, becuse life isn't just in school, life isn't just
reading books and life isn't just competiting in higher grades because i believe that the essence of life is on how
you give value to other people, how you give respect to others even when they are just nobody and hw you as a
person be a human in the society and in environment.

2. Points for improvement

I suggest that there should be more facilities in school. And if there is student-protection program, I beleive that
teacher also need a teacher-protection program.

For them to protect themselves from bullies students and over acting parents. Because i strongly beleive being a
teacher is not an easy job, it requires a lot of affection, passion and determination for the students sake.

Show sample computations of a grade and a subject of your choice different from what you gave in Activity 3. Show
the percentage contribution of written work, performance task and quarterly assessment.

Written Works

85 + 30 + 20 = 135
135 ÷ 160 = 84.38 × 30% = 25.31%

Performance Task

95 + 90 + 89 = 274
274 ÷ 300 = 91.33 × 50% = 45.67%

Quarterly Assessment

50 ÷ 60 = 83.33 × 20% = 16.67 %

87.65 ≈ 92

For me, it is easy to report the students performance to parents if you have a complete file to show.
Activity 2 - Attendance in Homeroom Meeting

If it is possible, attend a Homeroom meeting on Card-Getting Day.

Outline the parts of the meeting. Describe how the Resource Teachers
communicated learners' assessment results and grades to parents.

1. What are the parts of the Homeroom?

Parts of the Homeroom

First is during homeroom PTA Meeting. This is the appropriate time to give assessment result and grades,
and 15 days after the exam is the time also for grade release, and also this time the grades are
communicated with parents.

My Analysis

1. In the homeroom meeting, did the teachers reporting and communicating of grades take place smoothly? Or were there
instances when discussions became heated because of the way reporting was handled? Describe your observations.

During my high school days, the homeroom meeting took place smoothly, Especially in reporting and communicating
of grades. In giving of grades, cards of the students were given to their respective parents.
My Reflections

1. Grades are often a source of misunderstanding. How should i do reporting so that it will result to effective learning?

Grades are big deal to the most of the students because they were very competitive. They were concerned on how the teacher
derive the grades.
So, if i were the teacher i will do my best to stay as objective as possible. I will use scoring rubrics, creteria, checklist and other
measuring tools in order to have a tangible records of student performance and in order to score them easily.
I will also consider the privacy of students regarding to giving of grades, only the student will see their own grades.
I will maintain a fair grading of students and those promoting effective learning.

Research on Best Practices of schools on effective learning, grading and reporting.

Write your finding and reflections here.

According to my research, the following are the best practice of schools on effective scoring,
grading and reporting:

1. Understand the needsfor a standards. Based grading and reporting system, there is no
favoritism in the grading system and teacher must know his limitation according to that case.

2. Understand how curriculum alignment and creation of standard-based assessments are used
to form the backbone for the reporting system.

3. Communicate how the district used research-based methods to construct standard-based

system.

4. Understand how some of the district 's products and processes relate to grading and reporting.

For Grading:
1. Communicate achievement status of students to parents.
2. Use self-evaluation
3. Provide incentives to learn.
4. Always have an evaluation of the effectiveness of instruction.
