Image Manipulation for a

Magazine and advertisment

Image Adjustment
Here I have used the airbrush tool to make her skin tone
more even on her face and to reduce any redness that she
originally had giving her the appearance of clear skin, as
well as reducing some shadows.

On her facial features I have done some

digital drawing to create the allusion of
light makeup on her face, and I have also
used the paint tool to give the
appearance of bigger lips by drawing
over her original ones, by doing this it
enhances her features.
Changing Background

To change the
background of the
image I have started by
using the quick
selection tool to isolate
the subject by itself so I
can use it to place on a
new background, as it
has cut out the current
background.
Adding the Subject to the Background

After using the quick selection tool I

was able to move the subject, and
place onto the new image which I had
imported from online.

As seen here in the final image, the

subject has now been placed on a new,
more appealing background which has
resulted in a more flattering image
which could be used for a music
magazine.
Final Products
Using the quick selection tool again, I created different versions of the end
product by using one patterned background and a plain grey background. I
also changed the hue and saturation of the second image by decreasing
them which resulted in reducing the colour level to produce a black and
white gradient, which I then increased the lightness to make the image look
clearer.
I can say that my choice of tools were all equally effective as each
other because I successfully was able to digitally manipulate multiple
images. For example I used the quick selection tool effectively as I
was able to successfully change the background multiple times in a
way that the image looks realistic as if it was its original background.

I have also skilfully used the airbrush tool to manipulate an image in order to improve facial
features by for example smoothing the skin to create a more flawless appearance and reduce an
redness or imperfections from the main subject.
However I should have adjusted the hue and saturation better as the main subject has a more
yellow undertone appearance making the image brighter than the background stopping the new
main image from blending together.
I have created three final products which can be used for a music magazine as a cover.
Image Manipulation for an Advert
Spot Healing Brush

I first began editing by

using the spot healing
brush to remove the mole
located on her neck and
reduce some of the
shadows on her face, by
drawing over the
imperfections with this
brush to make them less
visible.
Changing Hair colour

To change her hair colour I

used the quick selection
tool to select her hair and
then I opened the hue and
saturation toolbar. Using
this I then changed the hue
by dragging it to the left to
create a more blue
lavender colour to change
her original blonde hair.
Paint
On this image I used the paint tool to
edit the models makeup. First I started
by selecting the eyedropper tool to
choose the same colour makeup on the
models face which I then decreased the
opacity so that when I went over the
original image it helped to smoothen the
texture on her face which created a nice
finish. By going over the models
eyeshadow/eyeliner to enhance it so it
stands out more, as it is a focal point.
Using the paint tool I also used a green-
brown colour on her eyes to make them
a lighter colour to further enhance her
makeup.
Final Product
Finally I changed the background to create the final product. To
do this I used the quick selection tool again by selecting all of the
model and then refining the edges to create a more natural
appearance. I then imported an image of a plain grey background
to replace the original background by playing it over the image.
To make the selected image visible I then moved the grey image
layer underneath it to get the final look.

When I edited the original image I also effectively used the hue
and saturation tool to change the subjects hair to a blue colour as
it looks realistic, however this tool was not fully effective as parts
of the subjects hair appears blurred and parts of the edges have
the original colour still visible slightly which hinders the realistic
appearance.
The quick selection tool and paint tool were also successfully
used to edit the subject as it improved its overall appearance
making it more aesthetically pleasing compared to the original
image, and this image can now be used for a makeup
advertisement.
