MIMAROPA &
Visayan Group of
Island
MIMAROPA
• the Southern Tagalog Region of the
Philippines.
• Region IV-B
• Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon,
Palawan
• Arts and Crafts depicts the different
aspects of their culture.
MINDORO
• The Mangyans – these groups are different from each
other based on their language,customs and ways of
living.
• Hanunuo-Mangyan – means “True/Real/gGenuine”.
• Iraya- Mangyan – fonds of making baskets.
• Ambahan- a rhythmic,poetic expression w/ a meter of
seven syllables.
• Urukay – written on Bamboo tubes or slats.
MARINDUQUE
• Known for it’s Moriones
Festival.
• A Lenten tradition that is
celebrated every Holy Week.
• “Morion” means mask that are
made from or Paper-Mache.
ROMBLON
• Known for it’s fine marbles
products.
• Woven mats and bags out of
romblon plants.
PALAWAN
• The country’s last frontier.
• Rich in culture and natural
diversity.
• The Tagbanuas – native group.
• Have their own writing system.
• Tingkop – a cone-shaped colander harvest
basket of blackened and natural bamboo.
• Tagbanua carvers – known for blackwood
sculptures of animals
- used for rituals or as toys for children.
• Manunggul Jar – found in the Mangunggul
Cave,Lipuun Point Palawan.
-a burial jar for the exhumed remains.
• One of the largest islands of the Archipelago lying
south of Romblons. The Triangular island is
composed of the following provinces:
• Iloilo
• Antique
• Aklan
• Capiz
• Island of Guimaras
•Weaving is the primary
form of arts and crafts in Panay
island. In Iloilo, weaving
patadyong is an important
industry.

• The name of Panay island was given by
Miguel Lopez de Legazpi when his team
moved there after experiencing food
scarcity in Cebu.
• Panay literally means “there is food” in
Spanish.
• The first written code was decreed in Panay
–The Code of Kalantiaw
•Kapis( Capis ) is also
an important craft in Panay island
particularly in aklan and Iloilo. The
are often collected from the
sea,bleached and dried before
pressing and cutting into desired
shapes.
• In the pre-hispanic times,the island of
Negros is called Buglas after the type
of grass similar to sugarcane that
grows abundantly in the island. When
Magellan's docked near the
island,they saw black people that
they called Negros.
• Samar and leyte are two large islands in
the Visayas while Biliran is an island
province of north of Leyte island.
• They love festivals and celebrations.
One of the most festival in the region is
the Kadayawan Festival City which is a
celebration of colors,beauty and artistry.
• the oldest settlement established by the
Spaniards and second most important
metropolitan center of the Philippines.
• It was established by Miguel Lopez de
Legaspi in 1565.
• It was also dubbed as Milan of Asia
becaise of this furniture industry.
• A malmag or a tarsier can be
found in Bohol,which is
considered to be the smallest
primate in the world.
