repacked less than a kilo?
Why do you think they are doing
it?
PRESENTATION
Mother has a small sari-sari store.
Every time she buys a 50-kilo cavan of
sugar, she repacks it into smaller bags
weighing 0.25 kilo. How many small
plastic bags are needed by mother?
• What is asked in the problem?
• What are the given facts
• What should be done to solve the
problem?
DISCUSSION
The solution of the word problem is:

50 ÷ 0.25 = N

50 ÷ 0.25 = 200

Why?

1. Change the divisor to whole number by moving the

decimal point 2 places to the right.
2. Annex 2 zeros to the dividend.
3. Then, divide the number as whole number
EXAMPLES
Find the quotient:
1) 64 ÷ 0.02 = ________
2) 35 ÷ 0.7 = _________
3) 48 ÷ 0.06 = ________
4) 72 ÷ 0.8 = _________
5) 95 ÷ 0.09 = _______
GROUP ACTIVITY
Let’s divide the class into 5
groups
Each group will be given activity
card.
Each group will solve the given
problem in 30 seconds.
GENERALIZATION
How do you divide a whole number by a
decimal?
1. Change the divisor to whole number by
moving the decimal point to the right.
2. Annex zeros to the dividend equal to
the number of significant places
moved in the divisor.
3. Then, divide the number as whole
number.
