a sentence.
What is Noun?
Noun is the name of person, animal,
thing, place and events. There are
many kinds of nouns, but today let’s
focus on the first two kinds of nouns.
Proper nouns and Common nouns.

What is Common Noun?
• are used to names a class of
person, a class of places, a class
of animals, a class of things in
general.
• A Common Noun is a general name of
a person, place, thing, or animal.

• Since these nouns are not naming


anything specific, they do not need to
begin with a capital letter unless they
are used to begin a sentence or used at
the beginning of a sentence.
Here are some examples:

• Sally's mother is a doctor.

• She is my teacher.

What is Proper Noun?
 A proper noun is a specific name of a
person, place, thing, or animals.
A Proper Noun usually starts with a
capital letter.
A Proper Noun sometimes consists of
two words

• Nicole is a very smart.
• Philip went to see the doctor.

A. Use plural form of regular nouns


by adding /s/ or /es/ (e.g., dog, dogs;
wish, wishes).
Singular nouns and plural nouns
 
• A noun that names only one is a
singular noun.
• A noun that names more than one is a
plural noun.
• A regular plural is a noun to which an
–s or an –es is added to the plural
To change singular nouns to plural nouns, do
the following:
Add -s to most nouns
• bag – bags pen – pens
• pin - pins book – books
Add –es to common nouns ending in ch,
sh, s, ss, x, or z
• church – churches
• class – classes
• fox - foxes
• dish - dishes
