Sukkot in Biblical Times
• Speak to the children of Israel, saying, "On the
fifteenth day of this seventh month is the festival of
Sukkos, a seven-day period for HaShem.
The first day shall be a sacred holiday when you
may not do any work. ...The eighth day
is a sacred holiday to you... it is an
atzeres, you may not do any work. ...
On the first day you must take for yourself a fruit of
the citron tree, an unopened palm frond, myrtle
branches, and brook willows, and you shall rejoice
before HaShem for seven days. ...
• You shall dwell in sukkos for seven days..
..it is a permanent regulation, generation after
generation… So that your future generations shall know
that I had the children of Israel live in
sukkos when I brought them out of Egypt..
• (Leviticus) 23:34-43
The Feast of Tabernacles is by far the most festive
and joyous of occasions.
• The Feasts were given to Israel within the
boundaries of their relationship to God.
• The Fall Feasts reflect three aspects of our
relationship with God:
Days of Trumpets • Repentance • Yom
Kippur – Day of Atonement • Redemption •
Sukkot – Feast of Tabernacles • Rejoicing
Sukkot was celebrated following the outline in
Leviticus: • They lived in booths made of boughs of
trees and branches of palm trees for the seven days
of the feast (Lev. 23:42).
• They rested from all regular work on the first and
eighth days.
1st day Sukkot - August 24 ( starts 6PM Aug. 23)
8 day Sukkot - August 31 ( starts 6PM Aug. 30)
The core of the symbols in Sukkot is the Sukkah –
The Booth. • The symbols point to relationship…
• The Sukkah is a temporary structure which reminds us
of two things..
• The wanderings of our forefathers in the wilderness all
the while surrounded by God’s presence which brought
His provision.
• The transience of this life and that the
only permanence and true protection
is in His presence and love.

A kibbutz (Hebrew:
lit. "gathering, clustering";
plural: kibbutzim קבּוּצִיםִ / )קיבוצים
Is a collective community in Israel that was traditionally
based on agriculture.
The first kibbutz, established in 1909,
was Degania.[1] Today, farming has been partly supplanted
by other economic branches, including industrial plants and high-tech
enterprises.[2]
Kibbutzim began as utopian communities, a combination of
socialism and Zionism.[3] In recent decades, some kibbutzim have
been privatized and changes have been made in the communal
lifestyle.
A member of a kibbutz is called a kibbutznik (Hebrew: קבּוּצְנ ִיק

kibbutz in Israel today
In 2010, there were 270 kibbutzim in Israel.
Their factories and farms account for 9% of Israel's industrial output,
worth US$8 billion, and 40% of its agricultural output, worth over
$1.7 billion.[4]
• Some kibbutzim had also developed substantial high-tech and military
industries. For example, in 2010, Kibbutz Sasa, containing some 200 members,
generated $850 million in annual revenue from its military-plastics industry.[5]
Currently the kibbutzim are organised in the secular Kibbutz Movement with
some 230 kibbutzim,
the Religious Kibbutz Movement with 16 kibbutzim and
the much smaller religious Poalei Agudat Yisrael with two
kibbutzim, all part of the wider communal settlement movement.
History: The first kibbutzim
The kibbutzim were founded by members of the Bilu
movement who emigrated to Palestine. Like the members of
the First Aliyah who came before them and established
agricultural villages,
most members of the Second Aliyah planned to become
farmers;
almost the sole career available in the agrarian economy of Ottoman
Palestine. The first kibbutz was Degania Alef, founded in 1909.
Some founders of the Kibbutz movement in Israel were
influenced by the ideals of Ancient Sparta, particularly in
education and communal living.[6][7]
Tabernacles and the Desert
Shekinah Glory
Sukkot firstly reminds us that God
provides. For the Israelites who
lived in temporary shelters on the
way from Egypt up to the
Promised Land,
the Lord YHVH was their constant
caretaker and provider, who saw
to all of their needs.
Sukkot reminds us that God dwelt
among us. With all of the focus on the
meaning of the sukkah for the
individual, it is easy to forget that God
had a sukkah of his own—the
Tabernacle.
For believers, this aspect of Sukkot is Tabernacles and the Desert
Shekinah Glory
of special significance, as we know
that God again dwelt among us
through His Son Yeshua, who became
flesh and dwelt among us (John 1:14)
The presence appeared as a
Cloudy Pillar in the day and a
Fiery Pillar by night (Exodus
13:20-22).
God spoke to Moses out of the
Pillar of Cloud (Exodus 33:9) Tabernacles and the Desert
Shekinah Glory
(Mat 24:30) And then the sign of the Son of Man will
appear in the heavens. And then all the tribes of the
land will wail. And they will see the Son of Man coming
on the clouds of heaven with power and much glory.
(Dan. 7:13)
(Mat 24:29) And immediately after the
suffering of those days TRIBULATION
(Mat 24:31) And He will send His cherubs with
a great sound of a large trumpet, and they will
gather His chosen ones from the four winds,
from the ends of the sky to the other.
The Coming of the Son of Man

Yahweh your God, and you will rejoice, you
and your household.
(Deu 14:27) The Levite who is within your
gates—do not forsake him, for he has no
portion nor inheritance with you.
(Deu 14:28) At the end of every three years you will
present all the tithe of your produce in the same year,
and you will store it up within your gates;
(Deu 14:29) and the Levite, because he has no portion
nor inheritance with you, and the foreigner, and the
fatherless, and the widow who are within your gates,
will come and eat and be satisfied. Do this
so that Yahweh your God may bless you in
all the work of your hand that you do.

Shemini Atzeret is translated as the Eighth Day of the Assembly. It’s
sort of strange that there’s an eighth day of the assembly, given that
Sukkot is a week-long feast, but in the very passage that dictates there
are seven days of Sukkot, we see God also mandating the eighth day:
“For seven days you are to bring an offering by fire to Adonai. The
eighth day will be a holy convocation to you, and you are to bring an
offering by fire to Adonai. It is a solemn assembly—you should do no
laborious work.” (Leviticus 23:36)
“So on the fifteenth day of the seventh month, when you
have gathered in the fruits of the land, you are to keep
the Feast of Adonai for seven days. The first day is to be
a Shabbat rest, and the eighth day will also be a Shabbat
The Feast of Booths
Deu 16:13 You shall perform the Feast of Tabernacles seven days
after you have gathered in from your grain-floor, and from your
winepress.
Deu 16:14 And you shall rejoice in your feast, you and your
son, and your daughter, and your male slave, and your slave-
girl, and the Levite, and the alien, and the fatherless, and the
widow that are inside your gates.
Deu 16:15 You shall keep a solemn feast seven days to
YAHWEH your Elohim in the place which YAHWEH shall choose
(Jerusalem); for YAHWEH your Elohim shall bless you in all your
produce, and in every work of your hands, and you shall be
altogether joyful.
The Feast of Booths
Deu 16:16 Three times in a year shall all your males
appear before YAHWEH your Elohim in the place
which He shall choose (Jerusalem): In the Feast of
Unleavened Bread, and in the Feast of Weeks and
in the Feast of Tabernacles. And they shall not
appear before YAHWEH empty,
Deu 16:17 but each with his gift of his hand,
according to the blessing of YAHWEH
your Elohim, which He has given you.
Justice
Deu 16:18 You shall appoint judges and officers for
yourself in all your gates which YAHWEH your Elohim
gives you, tribe by tribe. And they shall judge the people
with righteous judgment. Deu 16:19 You shall not
pervert judgment. You shall not regard faces, nor shall
you take a bribe; for a bribe blinds the eyes of the wise,
and perverts the words of the righteous.
Deu 16:20 You shall follow perfect justice, that you may
live and possess the land which YAHWEH your Elohim is
giving you.
kanimo ni Jehova nga imong Dios, sumala sa imong mga banay;
imong Dios.
THE TRUE IDENTITY OF THE SEVENTH MONTH
Sukkot, the Feast of Tabernacles, takes place
in the seventh month which is now known as
Tishrei. The funny thing is that things got
majorly switched up in Babylon. An ironic
fact, given that babel is the Hebrew word to
confuse!
The word Tishrei is an ancient
Akkadian word from Babylon meaning
“beginning”. It was back in Babylon
that the Jewish people began to mark
their new year as starting in the
seventh month of God’s calendar.
THE TRUE IDENTITY OF THE SEVENTH MONTH
For this reason, the Feast of
Trumpets which is on the first of
the seventh month is now usually
called Rosh Hashanah instead,
which means “Head of the Year”.
But it is no such thing.
According to God, the beginning
of the year starts with the month
of Passover in the Spring.
THE TRUE IDENTITY OF THE SEVENTH MONTH
Exo 12:1 And Yahweh spake unto Moses and Aaron in
the land of Egypt, saying, 2 This month shall be unto
you the beginning of months:
it shall be the first month of the
year to you.
THE TRUE IDENTITY OF THE SEVENTH MONTH
So what is the true significance of the seventh month,
if it’s not really the beginning of the year? Clearly it is
a very significant month with three major events in it:
the Feast of Trumpets on the first day of the month,
Yom Kippur on the 10th, and Sukkot on the 15th at the
full moon. Plus, the number seven should be catching
our attention.
On the eighth day you are to hold a solemn assembly; you must not do
any regular work. -- Numbers 29:35
Nehemiah 8:18
Day after day, from the first day to the last, Ezra read from the Book of
the Law of God. The Israelites kept the feast for seven days, and on the
eighth day they held an assembly, according to the ordinance.
“ For seven days you are to present an offering made by fire to the
LORD. On the eighth day you are to hold a sacred assembly and
present an offering made by fire to the LORD. It is a solemn assembly;
you must not do any regular work “. -- LEVITICUS 23:36
Two cryptic references in the Torah cause the confusion about the status of
Shemini Atzeret.
In both Leviticus and Numbers, God commands that the eighth
(shemini) day –referring to Sukkot–is to be a “sacred occasion” and
an atzeret, generally translated as “solemn gathering.”
the word atzeret, which he renders as “to gather” or “to store up.”
Accordingly, on this eighth day of Sukkot, the final day of
celebration,
we must store up the sentiments of gratitude and devotion acquired
throughout the entire fall holiday season; nearly two months will
pass until we celebrate another holiday,
PASSOVER UNLEAVENED BREAD.
How IS the SHEMINI ATZERET Different from Sukkot?
Although the observances of Shemini Atzeret generally share the
characteristics of the rest of Sukkot,
there are four significant differences:
1. The first is that there is no more shaking of the lulav and etrog.
2. Second is that although we have our meals and recite Kiddush in
the sukkah (though customs vary), we no longer say the blessing to
sanctify us through the commandment to dwell in it, as we did the
previous seven days.
3. The third is that in the synagogue, after the Torah reading, we recite the
memorial prayer (Yizkor). ( tradition)
4. And finally, the special prayer for rain (Geshem) is added to the repetition of
Musaf and thus begins the period of an additional call for rain in our prayers,
which lasts until Passover. ( tradition)
