A SEMINAR ON

INTRODUCTION

The general feeling these days seems to be: after HD comes

3D. Three-dimensional TV, like 3D cinema, offers a new
experience that differs fundamentally from all other audio-
visual media.
In the world of cinema, 3D movies are already highly
successful - many studios increasingly want to switch over
to this production method. There are still no binding
standards for 3D.
LED Technology is used for its lower power consumption,
durability, small size and many other properties.
WHAT IS 3D ???

 2D plus Depth
 Stereoscopic vision- In one eye what we
see in 2D. Two eyes gives slidely different
views of the object. This difference in
images gives the 3D.
3D TECHNIQUES
 This requires two channels, one for each eye.
 There are two ways to address the eyes.
 Hiding one part of the signal using glasses.
 Using directed beams that each only reach one of
the eyes.
 With lenses/glasses:
 Anaglyphic 3D (with passive red-cyan lenses)
 Polarization 3D (with passive polarized lenses)
 Alternate-frame sequencing (with active shutter
lenses.
 Without lenses: Auto-stereoscopic displays,
sometimes referred to commercially as Auto 3D.
ANAGLYPHIC
Using RED and CYAN color glass

 The classic 3D process, uses glasses

with two different-colored lenses. The
pictures for the left and right eyes
appear in different colors, which the
corresponding lenses then separate.
 The eye covered by the red filter sees
the red parts of the image as "white",
and the cyan parts as "black“ and the
eye covered by the cyan filter
perceives the opposite effect.

IN 3D
POLARIZATION 3D
 Uses vertical and horizontal polarizers to filter light
oscillating in the respective directions, and therefore
to direct the two separate signals to the viewer's eyes.
 Circular polarizer can also be used. It separates
according to clockwise or anticlockwise rotation of
light.
 This can work using two screens (combined into one
image by a mirror system), two projectors (shining
onto one screen).
 Advantage- Cheap glasses, decent picture quality.
 Disadvantage- Ghost images if you tilt your head.
ALTERNATE-FRAME SEQUENCING
With active shutter glasses
 If a screen displays different images one after the other,
you can use glasses that open and close their left and
right lenses alternately to achieve accurate 3D
representation.
 This requires double the picture refresh rate (therefore
at least twice 50 Hertz) - at slower rates, the picture
begins to flicker.
 Advantage: Excellent 3D effect with excellent picture
quality.
 Disadvantage: Costly screens and glasses.
3D WITHOUT GLASS

 Using a lattice with thin slits, it's possible to have each of

the viewer's eyes see different pixels on the screen. So each
eye see a different image without glass.
 Advantages:
 No glasses necessary;
 Well suited to LCD & LED displays;
 Screen can switch easily from normal to 3D mode.
 Disadvantages:
 Only works for one person;
 Requires specific viewing distances and positioning;
 Resolution is halved.
3D WITHOUT GLASS
Mechanism
PRODUCING 3D VIDEOS
With two cameras - ideally set
apart by the same distance as the
human eyes (around 6.5 cm) to
record the two perspectives
or using a stereoscopic camera
with two lenses.
EFFECT OF GLASS IN 3D
STORING N TRANSMITTING
 Coloring them in advance
 Using two separate channels.
 We may use a 3D BLU-RAY PLAYER to play 3D videos on
these 3D LED TVs.

ADVANTAGES & DISADVANTAGES
Advantages:
 We can feel like real objects on a 2D screen.
 We can feel as if characters are coming out of the screen.
Hence we can feel our presence in the events going on.
 Ultra-slim, very lower power consumption, more durable.
Disadvantage:
 They don't produce genuine three-dimensional images, but
rather an approximation of such on a two-dimensional
screen.
 Pictures generally become darker.
 The glasses are irritating.
 The system often goes beyond the limits of realistic playback.
CONCLUSION
Now the entertainment extends to an another
dimension. We can feel a real world stage in our
bounded room with a 2D screen TV set. We're yet to
encounter the ultimate 3D experience. Almost all TV
channels will switch over to 3D broadcasting & we
can enjoy all movies & computer games in 3D.
Just imagine, you are playing NFS or
Counterstrike in a 3D screen…
