▧ a type of knowledge that one gains
through several life experiences.
▧ teaching a child things that are
beyond academics

Characteristics of Informal
System
▧ Not imparted by an institution such as school or
college.
▧ Not pre-planned and has no timetable.
▧ No fees required
▧ A lifelong process in a natural way.

▧ The certificates/ degrees are not involved and one
has no stress for learning the new things.
▧ You can get from any source such as media, life
experiences, friends, family, etc.

Examples of Informal System
 Teaching the child some basics such as numeric
characters
 Teaching a child how to ride a bicycle
 Someone learning his/her mother tongue

Advantages
 More naturally learning process as you can learn at
anywhere and at anytime from your daily
experience.
 It involves activities like individual and personal
research on a topic of interest for themselves by
utilizing books, libraries, social media, internet or
getting assistance from informal trainers.

Advantages
 Utilizes a variety of techniques.
 No specific time span.
 Less costly and time- efficient learning process.
 No need to hire experts as most the professionals
may be willing to share their precious knowledge
with students/ public through social media and
internet.

 Learners can picked up the requisite information
from books, TV, radio or conversations with their
friends/ family members.

Disadvantages
x Information acquired from the internet, social
media, TV, radio or conversations with friends/
family members may lead to the disinformation.
x Utilized techniques may not be appropriate.
x No proper schedule or time span.
x Unpredictable results which simply the wastage of
time.

x Lack of confidence in the learner.
x Absence of discipline, attitude, and good habits.

The “Hidden Curriculum”
 All the unspoken expectations in a
specific place or in a group of people
 “lessons which are learned but not
openly intended” such as the
transmission of norms, values, and
beliefs conveyed in the classroom and
the social environment.

The “Hidden Curriculum”
 It is also a term to used to describe the
unwritten social rules and expectations
of behaviour that we all seem to know,
but were never taught. (Bieber, 194)

▧ Turning in assignments when due
▧ Being on time to class
