Water Cooler Day 4-3
It works with the help of a thermostatic switch which is set within the particular range. All coolers consists of
basic parts that are the same as that of a refrigeration system such as compressor, condenser (usually air
cooled), expansion device (thermostatic expansion valve or capillary tube), provisions are provided for water
inlet and outlet.
Water Cooler is generally used in schools, college, hospitals, factories, offices, stores etc. Basically, there are two
types of Water Cooler as follows:
1. Figure shows simple water cooler structure diagram, basic cycle is vapor compression
cycle consisting of compressor, condenser, fan with motor, expansion device, filter or
strainer, thermostatic switch and evaporator coil as shown above figure.
2. Temperature is control by thermostatic switch as per our desired temperature.
3. Compressor compresses the Refrigerant R12 vapor to high temperature high
pressure vapor is then condensed in condenser by fan motor unit. High pressure high
temperature vapor converted into High pressure high temperature liquid in condenser.
4. Liquid refrigerant passes through strainer or filter which removes moisture and
impurities if any.
3. Thermostatic filler bulb is clamped on the water coil just at outlet end in case
of instantaneous type, while in storage type it is emerged in the water in the tank.

01.Water coil is wrapped around evaporator 01.Evaporator coil is wrapped around the
Coil storage tank.
02.No float valve is required. 02.Float valve is required in storage tank.
05.There should be controlled flow rate of cold 05.Flow rate of water is not controlled.
