 Microsoft Windows Desktop – it is
commonly used to describe the
computer desktop or the system unit.
It refers to the GUI or Graphical User
Interface of the computer desktop. It
is the organization of the system icons
of the desktop. The first version of
Microsoft desktop was introduced with
Microsoft Windows 3.1 and included
with many versions since then.

LESSON
 Windows 10 is the last version of Microsoft
windows after Windows 7 and Windows 8.
It was released on the market July 25, 2015
after the beta test version 2014. It is an
operating system for personal computers,
tablets, embedded devices and internet of
things devices.

 Basic Parts of Windows 10


 1. Desktop is the area where you open an application
program icon. The keyboard control key to minimize all
program/app display on Desktop is Windows Key+D.
Desktop background or Wallpaper and windows theme can
be changed by right-click the blank area then choose
Personalize or Properties.
 2. Start menu/button opens the start menu with pinned
items, recently added or used programs. The control key
access the Start menu Windows+key or Ctrl+Esc.
 3. Windows Search box is a replacement for the Run and
find boxed found in Windows 95 to Windows XP. It is an
easy way to find files or documents with the use of keyword.

 4. Taskbar is the place where it contains buttons/icons of
running program. Once the program is open the control key
to switch from one program to another is Alt+Tab or
Windows Key+Tab.
 5. System Tray is another name given to the Notification
Area on which we can find in the right-side of the Windows
Taskbar. The basic features display different types of
notifications and alerts from the computer like internet
connection or speaker volume level.

 Computer Keyboard – it is an input
device similar to electric typewriter. It
composed of buttons that create letters,
numbers, and symbols as well as other
functions.

 Basic Parts of Computer Keyboard:
 1. Function Keys (F1-F12) – F1 function always use for Help, F5 to refresh
or reload on the web browser display, F6 will move the cursor to the
address bar and F7 for spell checker in word processing.
 2. Typewriter keys – the character keys are the standard keys that were
found on a typewriter mostly numbers and letters. The default is lowercase
letter, when Shift key is press uppercase letter and when Caps lock key is
press it turns into capital letters. The Space bar inserts a space to separate
words. The other name of Return key is Enter that moves the cursor to the
next line. The Tab key moves the flashing cursor to the next tab stop.
Delete or Del key erase one character only. The Insert key is an editing key
used to switch between two text-entering mode, insert and overstrike.

 Basic Parts of Computer Keyboard:
 3. Cursor Control keys or the Arrow Keys move flashing cursor in the
directions of the arrow. Text is not erase or changed when using arrow
keys.
 4. Navigation keys helps to move the flashing cursor. These includes
Insert, Home, PageUp, Delete, End and PageDown. Home key moves
the flashing cursor to the beginning of the current line while End key
moves the flashing cursor to the end of the current line. PageUp move
one page length up and PageDown move one page length down.
 5. Numeric keypad – contains numeric keys for accounting purposes
(+,-,/,*). When Num Lock is press numbers or numeric keys performed.
