INTRODUCTION

 Jordan, officially the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, is a country in Western Asia.


It is situated at the crossroads of Asia, Africa, and Europe, within the Levant
region, on the East Bank of the Jordan River. Jordan is bordered by Saudi Arabia
to the south and east, Iraq to the northeast, Syria to the north, and the Palestinian
West Bank, Israel, and the Dead Sea to the west. It has a 26 km (16 miles)
coastline on the Gulf of Aqaba in the Red Sea to the southwest. The Gulf of
Aqaba separates Jordan from Egypt.
PRESIDENT

 Unfortunately, Jordan does not have a president because it is a Kingdom country.


 Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein is King of Jordan, having ascended the throne on 7
February 1999. He is a member of the Hashemite dynasty, who have been the reigning
royal family of Jordan since 1921, and is considered a 41st-generation direct
descendant of the Islamic prophet Muhammad.
 Along side with the King is, Bisher Al-Khasawneh, who has been Prime Minister
since 7 October 2020.
 His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan was born in 30 January 1962 (60), Amman,
Jordan.
 Muna Al-Hussein is his mother, Queen Rania his wife.
 They have four children: Crown Prince Hussein, Princess Iman, Princess Salma and
Prince Hashem.

POPULATION

 The current population of Jordan in 2022 is 11,285,869.


 A 1.23% increase from 2021.
 The population of Jordan in 2021 was 11,148,278.
 A 2.01% increase from 2020.
 The country's population is largely concentrated in the west of the country,
especially in the northwest, in and around the capital(Amman).
 In 2017 there were 1,150,000 Egyptians in Jordan.
CURRENCY

 Jordanian dinar is the currency used in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.


 JOD is it abbreviation.
 Jordanian dinar is equal to 1.41 US Dollar.
 The Jordanian dinar is such an expensive currency because the Jordanian
government maintains fixed exchange rates.
 The Jordanian dinar has been the currency of Jordan since 1950.
 The dinar is divided into 10 dirhams, 100 qirsh (also called piastres) or 1000
fulus.

LANGUAGES

 Arabic is Jordan's official language.


 Everyone in the country, including the minority communities, speak Arabic in
their day to day dealings.
 English, as a British colony, has been the primary foreign language in the country
since 1946.
 There is a small French speaking population in Jordan.
CAPITAL CITY

 Amman is the capital and largest city of Jordan.


 It is the residence of the king and the seat of government.
 A modern city with numerous ancient ruins.
 The historic Citadel includes the pillars of the Roman Temple of Hercules and the
8th-century Umayyad Palace complex, known for its grand dome.
 The largest part of the country’s population is the capital city (4.008 million).

CULTURE

 Jordanians are 98 percent Arab.


 The other two percent of the population is Chechen and Armenian.
 Family life and rites of Passage are extremely important.
 Jordanian food brings people together.
 The seas play an important part as they are salty thus it is believed to have many
medicinal properties for the skin and the body.
 The traditional outfit typically worn by men is made of a one-piece full-length
dress, called a “Dishdashah” or “Thoub”.
 Women's national custom is a handmade full-length black dress embroidered with
patterns in red.

TOURIST ATTRACTIONS

 Al-Siq, Petra is Jordan's most famous


tourist attraction and one of the world's
most spectacular UNESCO World
Heritage sites.
 One of the country's best places to visit
for hikers, as well as nature lovers.
 It has plenty of hikes over the cliffs and
through the deep valleys within the site.

Architectural Landmark
 Balmy temperatures and historical sights
make the Red Sea port of Aqaba ideal for
a beach holiday.
 Aqaba offers action-packed water sports,
lively markets and local restaurants
serving Jordanian cuisine and fresh
seafood.
 If you get restless after too many days on
a sun lounger, this is the perfect
compromise.
STABLE FOD

 Hummus is Jordan’s stable food


 It is made by blending chickpeas with
tahini, garlic, and citrus.
 Hummus is best enjoyed with fresh pita,
but is also sometimes eaten with a raw
onion or served as part of a mezze.
RELIGION

o The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan is a majority Muslim country with 92% of the
population following Sunni Islam while a small minority follow Shiite branches.
o Approximately 8% are Christian.
o The majority of Christians belong to the Greek Orthodox Church.
o Shia, Druze and Baháʼí Faith contingents, experience the greatest degree of
religious discrimination from the government.
POPULAR UNIVERSITY

The Hashemite University (HU) Hashemite University


 A public university in Jordan established
in 1995.
 It is located in the vicinity of the city of
Zarqa.
 It is the first university in Jordan to apply
the Two-Summer-Semester system.
 The university comprises 19 colleges
(faculties) and institutes.

 Jordan is bordered by Saudi Arabia to the east and south.


 Iraq to the north-east.
 Syria to the north.
 Israel and Palestine to the west
