Factors Affecting Population

Growth
LET’S PLAY!
YOU HAVE ONLY 10 SECONDS
TO DETERMINE THE TERM
BEING DESCRIBE
FIRST QUESTION
a biological community of
interacting organisms and their
physical environment.
ECOSYSTEM
SECOND QUESTION

It refers to the variety of life in an

area

BIODIVERSITY
THIRD QUESTION
It refers to the total number of
organism of the same species
inhabiting a place at the same
time
POPULATION
THIRD QUESTION

It refers to the number of

individuals in an area

POPULATION DENSITY
FOURTH QUESTION
Environmental condition that keep a
population from over increasing in size
and thus help balance ecosystem

LIMITING FACTOR
NATURAL DISASTER
INFECTIOUS
DISEASES
EMIGRATION
Why do some
population???

Grow! And some tend to???

SHRINK!
Population growth is influenced by a range
of factors that can impact the size and
composition of a population over time.
Understanding these factors is critical for
policymakers and researchers who seek to
understand and manage population growth
in different regions and contexts.
POPULATION GROWTH =
(BIRTH RATE + IMMIGRANTS) – (DEATH
RATE + EMIGRANTS)
IF THE POPULATION IS LESS THAN ZERO THIS MEANS
THE SIZE OF POPULATION TENDS TO DECLINE
POPULATION GROWTH IS LIMITED
BY TWO GENERAL FACTOR
DENSITY INDEPENDENT FACTOR

DENSITY DEPENDENT FACTOR

A factor the regulates a
population’s growth and is
influenced by population density
is called….
Density – dependent limiting factor
If the population’s density does
not directly influence changes in
population’s growth, then it is
called….
Density – independent limiting factor
Density – independent limiting factor

Natural disaster
Temperature
Sunlight
Human activitied
Natural disaster
Typhoons Will stop the
population from
Flood growing no matter how
many organisms are
Earthquake living in a certain
area……..
Fires
TEMPERATURE
If the temperature increases
due to global warming, this will
cause a decrease in population
number…...
Human activities
That alter the environment will decrease
the number of organism in a population,
regardless the size of the population..
DENSITY DEPENDENT LIMITING FACTOR

Come into play when population

reaches the certain number of organism
DENSITY DEPENDENT LIMITING FACTOR

For example:
when the population reaches a certain
size, “ there won’t be enough resources”
DENSITY DEPENDENT LIMITING FACTOR

This could cause the population to stop

growing!!!, when it reaches the maximum
number of organisms that can be supported
or carried by the environment. This number
is known as CARRYING CAPACITY
FACTORS THAT DEPEND ON POPULATION
DENSITY
Infectious diseases
1.Infectious diseases spread
faster densely in populated
area.
FACTORS THAT DEPEND ON POPULATION
DENSITY
Competition for resources
1.Strong Weak
2. Better adaptation Limited abilities
FACTORS THAT DEPEND ON POPULATION
DENSITY
EMIGRATION
Emigration occurs when approaches its carrying capacity,
and individual organisms leave and go to a new area where
they can find enough resources for survival and
reproduction. This will obviously cause a decrease in the
amount of organisms in a population.
1.Birth Rate
Birth rate refers to the number of births per
thousand people in a population. If the birth
rate is higher than the death rate, then the
population will grow. Conversely, if the birth
rate is lower than the death rate, then the
population will decline. Factors that can
influence birth rate include access to
contraception, cultural norms, and education.
1.Death Rate
Death rate refers to the number of deaths per thousand people in a
population. If the death rate is higher than the birth rate, then the
population will decline. Conversely, if the death rate is lower than the
birth rate, then the population will grow. Factors that can influence death
rate include access to healthcare, nutrition, and sanitation.
1.Migration
Migration refers to the movement of people
from one place to another. If more people
move into a region than leave it, then the
population will grow. Conversely, if more
people leave a region than move into it, then
the population will decline. Factors that can
influence migration include job opportunities,
political instability, and climate change.
1.Age Structure
Age structure refers to the proportion of the population that is made
up of different age groups. A population with a high proportion of
young people is likely to experience higher birth rates, while a
population with a high proportion of older people is likely to experience
higher death rates. Factors that can influence age structure include
birth rates, life expectancy, and migration patterns.
Education and Women’s Rights

Education and women's rights can have a significant

impact on population growth. In many countries,
women have limited access to education and
healthcare, which can result in higher birth rates.
Conversely, when women have access to education
and healthcare, they are more likely to delay childbirth
and have fewer children. This can result in lower
population growth rates.
1.Economic Development
Economic development can also influence population growth. As
countries develop, they tend to experience lower birth rates and higher
life expectancies. This is because people have access to better
healthcare, education, and job opportunities, which can result in
delayed childbirth and improved health outcomes. Additionally,
economic development can lead to increased migration, both within a
country and between countries, which can also impact population
growth.
