Hydraulic Calculation

for Fire Pump

Hose Reel System & Wet Riser System
General

 Selected Pump Capacity =

Operating Capacity
vs
Operating Head
Hose Reel System
 Operating Capacity = Discharge Rate of Hose Reel Drum x Quantity of Hose Reel
Discharge Rate of Hose Reel Drum = 30 l/min
Quantity of Hose Reel = Depend of Design, with maximum of 4 nos.

 Operating Head = Residual Pressure of Hose Reel Drum + Static Head + Friction Loss
Residual Pressure of Hose Reel Drum = min. 2 bars
Static Head = Difference of Height between Pump and Highest Hose Reel Drum
Friction Loss = Pipe Losses from pump to Furthest Hose Reel Drum
Hose Reel System
 Operating Capacity = Discharge Rate of HR Drum x Quantity of HR
Discharge Rate of Hose Reel Drum = 30 l/min
Quantity of Hose Reel = Depend of Quantities of Hose Reel Drum in the
system, with maximum of 4 nos.

 Operating Head = Residual Pressure of HR Drum + Static Head + Friction Loss

Residual Pressure of Hose Reel Drum = min. 2 bars
Static Head = Difference of Height between Pump and Highest HR Drum
= A+C+E
Friction Loss = Pipe Losses from pump to Furthest HR Drum
= (A+B+C+D) x 0.05 [5ft/100ft friction loss] x 1.2 [estimated equivalent
pipe length for elbows and bends are 20% of the total pipe length ]

= (A+B+C+D) x 0.05 x 1.2

Hose Reel System (Example)
 Operating Capacity = Discharge Rate of HR Drum x Quantity of HR
Operating Capacity = 30 l/min x 4 = 120 l/min

 Operating Head = Residual Pressure of HR Drum + Static Head + Friction Loss

Operating Head = (20m [2 bars]) + (3.7m+14.5m+1.4m) +
(3.7m+10.5m+14.5m+5.5m+1.4m) x 0.05 x 1.2
= 20m + 19.6m + (35.6m x 0.05 x 1.2)
= 41.74m

 Hence, minimum Selected Operating Capacity

= 120 l/min vs 41.74 m head
Wet Riser System
 Operating Capacity = Discharge Rate of Landing Valve x 3 (three landings valves opened at same time)
Discharge Rate of Landing Valve = 500 l/min

 Operating Head = Residual Pressure of Landing Valve + Static Head + Friction Loss
Residual Pressure of Landing Valve = 4 – 7 Bars
Static Head = Difference of Height between Pump and Highest Landing Valve
Friction Loss = Pipe Losses from pump to Furthest Landing Valve
Wet Riser System
 Operating Capacity = Discharge Rate of Landing Valve x 3
Discharge Rate of Landing Valve = 500 l/min

 Operating Head = Residual Pressure of Landing Valve + Static Head + Friction Loss
Residual Pressure of Landing Valve = 4 – 7 Bars
Static Head = Difference of Height between Pump and Highest Landing Valve
=A+C+E+G
Friction Loss = Pipe Losses from pump to Furthest Landing Valve
= (A+B+C+D+E+F+G) x 0.05 [5ft/100ft friction loss] x
1.2 [estimated equivalent pipe length for elbows and bends are 20% of the total
pipe length]

= (A+B+C+D+E+F+G) x 0.05 x 1.2

 Jockey Pump
Operating Capacity = 120 l/min
Operating Head = Usually 20% higher than pump operating head
Wet Riser System
 Operating Capacity = Discharge Rate of Landing Valve x 3
Operating Capacity = 500 l/min x 3 = 1500 l/min

 Operating Head = Residual Pressure of Landing Valve + Static Head + Friction Loss
Operating Head = (55m [4~7 bars]) + (4m+14.5m+14m+1.35) +
(4m+12m+14.5m+5.5m+14m+13.2M+1.35m) x 0.05 x 1.2
= 55m + 33.85m + (64.55m x 0.05 x 1.2)
= 92.72m
 Jockey Pump
Operating Capacity = 120 l/min
Operating Head = 92.72m x 1.2
= 111.26m

 Hence, minimum Selected Operating Capacity

= 1500 l/min vs 92.72 m head;
Jockey = 120 l/min vs 111.26 m head
THE END
