WELCOME TO ILOCOS

REGION!!
Ilocos Region , officially designated as Region I,
is an administrative region in the Philippines
occupying the northwestern section of Luzon. It
covers 4 provinces, namely, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos
Sur, La Union, and Pangasinan.
ILOCOS REGION

•Ilocos is a region in the Philippines, encompassing the


northwestern coast of Luzon island. It’s known for its historic sites,
beaches and the well-preserved Spanish colonial city of Vigan.
Dating from the 16th century, Vigan’s Mestizo district is
characterized by cobblestone streets and mansions with wrought-
iron balconies. Farther north, Laoag City is a jumping-off point for
the huge La Paz Sand Dunes.
ILOCOS NORTE
ILocos Norte is a province in the northern Philippines. In the
capital Laoag City, grand Paoay Church is a fusion of local and
baroque architecture. Farther north, Cape Bojeador Lighthouse
and the dramatic Kapurpurwan Rock Formation offer panoramic
ocean views. At the province’s northern tip, the town of Pagudpud
is known for its beaches, like Blue Lagoon, plus bell-shaped
Timmangtang Rock and towering Kabigan Falls.
Saint Augustine Church
(Paopay Church)
The Saint Augustine Church, commonly known as the
Paoay Church, is a Roman Catholic church in the
Municipality of Paoay, Ilocos Norte in the Philippines.
Completed in 1710, the church is famous for its distinct
architecture highlighted by the enormous buttresses on the
sides and back of the building.

The Cape Bojeador Lighthouse

The highest elevated lighthouse in the Philippines from the

Cape Bojeador Lighthouse, also known as Burgos Lighthouse,
is a cultural heritage structure in Burgos, Ilocos Norte, that
was established during the Spanish Colonial period in the
Philippines.
Bangui Windmill Farm
Known as the first windfarm in Southeast Asia, Ilocos Norte's
beautiful Bangui Windmill Farm is a must-see. With 26 turbines
to date and counting, the Ilocos Region's first and largest wind
farm is a magnificent sight to behold.
The Bangui Wind Farm is a wind farm in Bangui, Ilocos
Norte, Philippines. The wind farm uses 20 units of 70-meter
high Vestas V82 1.65 MW wind turbines, arranged in a
single row stretching along a 9-kilometer shoreline of
Bangui Bay, facing the South China Sea.
Pagudpud
Pagudpud is a coastal town located at the northernmost tip of
Ilocos Norte. It is known as the “Boracay of the North”, but it has
so much more to offer apart from its pristine coastline.
Pagudpud's Bangui Bay also features 20 wind turbines, which
makes it Southeast Asia's first windmill farm.
Empanada
Her recipe was Ilocos empanada, a turnover specialty
from the northern province of the Philippines. It was her
aunt who taught her this empanada with its crust made of
rice flour colored orange with achuete and a filling of
shredded green papaya, split monggo, longganisa and
whole egg.
Ilocos Sur
Located on the mouth of the Mestizo River is the capital of
Vigan. Ilocos Sur is bordered by Ilocos Norte and Abra to
the north, Mountain Province to the east, La Union and
Benguet to the south and the South China Sea to the
west. Ilocos Sur was founded by the Spanish conquistador
Juan de Salcedo in 1572.
Vigan City
Vigan is a city in the Philippines, on the west coast of Luzon
island. It's known for its preserved Spanish colonial and Asian
architecture. Calle Crisologo dominates the Mestizo district, with
its cobblestone streets, malecón, horse-drawn carriages and
rustic mansions. Near the white baroque Vigan Cathedral are
Plaza Salcedo, offering fountain light shows, and Plaza Burgos,
known for its street-food stalls.
St. Paul Metropolitan Cathedral

The Metropolitan Cathedral of St Paul, also called Vigan


Cathedral, is one of the most amazing historic sites in Vigan. It is
an old church in Ilocos region on the front of Salcedo Plaza and
next to Burgos Plaza.
Juan de Salcedo, the conquistador and founder of Villa
Fernandina, now Vigan, founded the first cathedral in Vigan in
1574. The church was made of wood and stalk. Meanwhile, the
motifs of the cathedral are neo-gothic and pseudo-roman.
It was restored in 1641 and its current baroque structure was
completed in 1800. The bell tower is also here and is
approximately 25 meters high with a large bronze to symbolize
St. Peter. In 1758, it was established as a cathedral.
Syquia Mansion
of the many historical landmarks you can find within Vigan, one
that stands out above the rest is the Syquia Mansion. Once resided
by the Syquia family, with one of its members marrying former
Philippine president and Vigan native Elpidio Quirino, the Syquia
Mansion has since been transformed into a public museum,
displaying not only the various artifacts owned by the family and
the late president, but also an architectural marvel that best
encapsulates Vigan’s unique charm.
Bantay Bell Tower
The Bantay Bell Tower gives tourists a glimpse
of Ilocos Sur's colorful history, as the tower has
stood firmly on top of the hill since 1591. Not
only is the tower an architectural marvel, it's also
a lasting symbol of how the area has remained
steadfast in the face of various threats.
La Union
La Union, officially the Province of La Union, is a
province in the Philippines located in the Ilocos
Region in the Island of Luzon. Its capital is the City of
San Fernando, which also serves as the regional
center of the Ilocos Region.
Baluarte Watch Tower
Baluarte is a 400-year old watchtower along Luna's pebble-
covered seashore that faces the West Philippine Sea. The Spanish
colonizers built the tower to keep watch of the olden times'
impending pirate attacks, other foreign invaders, and any other
dangers from the sea.
San Juan Beach
San Juan is a surfing Mecca in Luzon, the perfect season
to ride the waves is from October to March. Bring your
own surfboard, if you don't want to rent and don't forget
to take a rash guard with you. Bring snacks and drinks, if
you plan to do day trips to the nearby waterfalls.
Pangasinan
Pangasinan, officially the Province of
Pangasinan, is a coastal province in the
Philippines located in the Ilocos Region of
Luzon. Its capital is Lingayen. Pangasinan is
in the western area of Luzon along Lingayen
Gulf and the South China Sea. It has a total
land area of 5,451.01 square kilometres
Hundred Islands
The Hundred Islands National Park is the first
Philippine national park and a protected area located
in Alaminos, Pangasinan. The islands, totaling 124 at
low tide and 123 at high tide, are scattered in Lingayen
Gulf covering an area of 16.76 square kilometres .
Cape Bolinao
Lighthouse
The Cape Bolinao Lighthouse is a historic
lighthouse in Bolinao, Pangasinan,
Philippines. It was built in 1905 by a trio of
American, British and Filipino engineers.
Situated at an elevation of 107 meters above
sea level, it is the second highest lighthouse in
the Philippines next to the Cape Bojeador
Lighthouse.
