What is crane?

 A crane is type of machine generally

equipped with a hoist rope wire
ropes or chain and sheaves that can
be used both to lift and lower
materials and to move them
horizontally.
 It is mainly used for lifting heavy
objects and transporting them to
other places.

all types of terrain
effortlessly and are great for
job sites on locations with
ever-changing weather
conditions. These types of
lifting machines offer greater
mobility and faster speeds
than other alternatives.

CRANE SAFETY:
PLANNING BEFORE START-UP

 Level the crane and ensure support surface is firm and

able to support the load
 Contact power suppliers and determine precautions
 Know the location and voltage of overhead and
underground powerlines
 Know the basic crane capacities limitations and job site
such as location of powerlines unstable soil or high
winds
 Make other personal aware of hoisting activates
 Barricades areas with swing radius
 Ensure proper maintenance and inspection
 Determine safe areas to areas to store materials and
place machinery

www.nishe.in Contact No 6206299021 PPT By Adil khan

CRANE SAFETY:
BEFORE LIFTING CHECK THE THINGS:
 Method statement lifting plan risk and
hazard evaluation and other legal
documents
 Ensure lift calculation are correct
 Ensure ASLI over hoist limit switch boom
limit switch
 Ensure load is within load chart rating for
boom length and load radius of crane

www.nishe.in Contact No 6206299021 PPT By Adil khan

CRANE SAFETY:

SAFE LIFTING
REQUIREMENTS
 Ensure all safety devices are in place

 Ensure all personnel is a safe distance from the

equipment, the loads and any other objects
within the lift zone and its perimeters

 Ensure loads to be lifted are within the crane’s

capacity per the owner’s manual

 Ensure load/lift limits are fully adhered to

WHAT TO INSPECT: WHAT IS TO INSPECT:
 OPREATORS  TPI/insurance/operator competency
must qualify on specific crane job certificates
hazard control measures details and  ASLI/limit switch / boom angel hoist limit
environment. switch
 Must include the job trainings  Correct air pressure and no leakage
 Supervisors / competent person  Adequate communication medium
 Tires properly inflated
 Clearness for tailing swing
 Wire rope wear
 Physical damage to crane
 Loose or missing hardware nuts or bolt
 Fluid leaks

CRANE SAFETY:
TYPES OF HITCH:
 Four basic types of hitch used with crane lift.
 1.straight (vertical)
 Choker
 Basket
 bridal

www.nishe.in Contact No 6206299021 PPT By Adil khan

CRANE SAFETY:
HITCH ARRANGMENT:
 Straight (vertical)
 A vertical hitch or straight hitch is the most basic hitch used directly connect a load to a
lifting device . on a vertical hitch the eye of single chain sling is connected to the crane or
hoist hook while the other eyes is connected to an attachment point on the load.

www.nishe.in Contact No 6206299021 PPT By Adil khan

CRANE SAFETY:
HITCH ARRANGMENT:
 Choker
 A choker hitch to tighten or snug a sling down securely to provide greater load control. When
using a choker hitch one eye of the hitch is wrapped around the load and then passed through
itself and then attached to the crane or hoist hook.

www.nishe.in Contact No 6206299021 PPT By Adil khan

CRANE SAFETY:
 Choker hitches should not be used on unbalanced loads or loose bundles because
the slings will never make full 360 degree contact with the load. For more compete
contact use a double wrap choker hitch.

 Double choker hitch-

 Uses two sling in choker hitch
to provide more contact area
to secure a load.

 Double wrap choker hitch-

 Similar to standard choker hitch
expect that sling is wrapped around
the load twice. This hitch compress
the load and can help prevent it from
slipping out of the sling.

www.nishe.in Contact No 6206299021 PPT By Adil khan

CRANE SAFETY:
HITCH ARRANGENT:
 Basket
 Basket hitches distribute a load equally between the two legs of a slings. When using a
basket hitch the load is cradled by running the sling under neath the load and they
attaching both eyes of the sling separately to the hook.

www.nishe.in Contact No 6206299021 PPT By Adil khan

CRANE SAFETY:
 Basket hitch can be used as either a single
double or double- wrap configuration:

 Double basket hitch-

 Uses two slings to balance a
load by keeping the slings part.

 Double wrapped basket hitch-

 Similar to standard basket hitch
expect the sling is wrapped around
the load twice. Th provides
excellent load control for loose
martials and good grip on smooth
surface.

CRANE SAFETY:
HITCH ARRANGMENT:

 Bridal
 Bridal hitch are used for hoisting an object than has lifting lugs or attachment.
• 1.one two leg bridal
• 2.three leg bridal
• 3.four leg bridal

CRANE SAFETY:
5 SIMPLE RULES FOR A BANKSMAN:

1. Know the weight of the load.

2. Use the right lifting equipment for the job.
3. Attach is correctly of the load ensuring that the book is over the C and G of
the load.
4. Before lifting ensure that’s bands are clear of the slings.
5. Lift slowly and carefully ensure all personal are clear of the load.

What is Load Chart:

 A crane load chart helps the

operator calculate a
crane's lifting capabilities.
This chart ensures that the
crane that is under operation
does not exceed its lifting
capacity. Load charts take
into consideration how the lift
capacity varies when
considering the distance and
the angle of the lift.
