What is “TEA” model
of self?

The TEA Model of Self, developed by Dr. T.V.

Rao, is a model that explains the three
interconnected aspects of the self: Thoughts,
Emotions, and Actions. These three aspects are
constantly influencing each other, and a change
in one can lead to a change in the others.
Within the context of social dynamics, the TEA
Model of Self can be used to understand how
our thoughts, emotions, and actions impact our
interactions with others.
Aspects of “TEA” model
o Thoughts: Our thoughts about ourselves and others can
have a significant impact on our social interactions. For
example, if we have negative thoughts about ourselves, we
may be more likely to judge and criticize others. This can
lead to conflict and misunderstandings in our relationships.
o Emotions: Our emotions also play a role in our social
interactions. For example, if we are feeling angry or
frustrated, we may be more likely to lash out at others. This
can damage our relationships and make it difficult to
connect with others.
o Actions: Our actions are the outward expression of our
thoughts and emotions. For example, if we have negative
thoughts about ourselves, we may avoid social interactions
altogether. This can lead to isolation and loneliness.
TEA model cycle

The TEA model of self is interconnected because each aspect

influences the others. For example, our thoughts can influence
our emotions, which can in turn influence our actions. Similarly,
our actions can influence our thoughts and emotions.
Here is a short example of how the aspects of the TEA model of
self are interconnected:
A person has a negative thought about themselves, such
as "I'm not good enough." This negative thought triggers a
negative emotion, such as sadness or anxiety. The person
then feels unmotivated to take action, such as going to
work or spending time with friends.
Effects of “TEA” model

• Improved mood: By challenging

negative thoughts and expressing
emotions in a healthy way, we can
improve our mood and outlook on life.
• Increased motivation: When we have
positive thoughts and emotions, we are
more likely to be motivated to take
action and achieve our goals.
• Enhanced well-being: By engaging in
positive actions that support our
physical and mental health, we can
enhance our overall well-being.
How to use “TEA” model for
our improvement
• Be mindful of your thoughts. Pay attention to the thoughts that
you have about yourself and others. Are they positive or
negative? If you find yourself having negative thoughts, try to
challenge them and replace them with more positive thoughts.
• Manage your emotions. It is important to be able to manage your
emotions in a healthy way. If you find yourself feeling
overwhelmed by negative emotions, try to find healthy ways to
cope with them, such as exercise, relaxation techniques, or
talking to a trusted friend or therapist.
• Be intentional about your actions. Once you are aware of your
thoughts and emotions, you can start to make more intentional
choices about your actions. Choose actions that are aligned with
your values and that will lead to positive social interactions.
Summary
The TEA model of self views the self as interconnected
and dynamic, composed of thoughts, emotions, and
actions. These three aspects constantly influence each
other, meaning that by changing one, we can change the
others. By understanding and managing our thoughts,
emotions, and actions, we can improve our overall well-
being.
The TEA model of self is interconnected because each
aspect influences the others. For example, our thoughts
can influence our emotions, which can in turn influence
our actions. Similarly, our actions can influence our
thoughts and emotions.
By understanding and managing our thoughts, emotions,
and actions, we can improve our overall well-being.
