Linear regression

• Linear regression analysis

is used to predict the value of a
variable based on the value of
another variable. The variable
you want to predict is called the
dependent variable. The variable
you are using to predict the other
variable's value is called the
independent variable
Linear Regression Formula
Linear regression
Linear regression shows the linear
relationship between the
independent(predictor) variable i.e. X-
axis and the dependent(output) variable
i.e. Y-axis, called linear regression.

Simple linear regression is used to

estimate the relationship between two
quantitative variables
Stages Linear Regression Analysis
• Linear Regression Analysis
consists of more than just fitting
a linear line through a cloud of
data points. It consists of 3 stages
• (1) analyzing the correlation and
directionality of the data,
• (2) estimating the model, i.e.,
fitting the line, and
• (3) evaluating the validity and
usefulness of the model.
Application of Linear regression
• Market analysis by using some marketing
strategies and maximizing sales.

• Financial study through linear models for

evaluating an establishment's operational
performance.

• Sports analysis by predicting game

attendance depending on the team's status
as well as market size
Multi Linear Regression
Logistic Regression
• Logistic regression is a process Time Click Add

of modeling the probability of a 20 No

discrete outcome given an input 40 No

variable. The most common 10 YES

logistic regression models a 30 No

binary outcome; something that 60 No

can take two values such as 50 YES

true/false, yes/no, and so on. 45 YES

15 No

35 YES

85 No

25 YES
Logistic Regression
• There are three main types of
logistic regression: binary,
multinomial and ordinal. They differ
in execution and theory. Binary
regression deals with two possible
values, essentially: yes or no.
Multinomial logistic regression deals
with three or more values.
Key Advantages of Logistic Regression

• Easier to implement machine

learning methods: A machine
learning model can be effectively
set up with the help of training
and testing. ...
• Suitable for linearly separable
datasets: A linearly separable
dataset refers to a graph where a
straight line separates the two
data classes.
