Impressionism
•Mood: Often light, airy, and serene, with an
emphasis on capturing the fleeting effects of light
and atmosphere.
•Idea: Impressionism focuses on depicting the
momentary effects of light and color rather than
precise detail. It reflects the artist's immediate
perception of a scene, often using loose
brushstrokes and vibrant colors.
•Message: Impressionism conveys the beauty of
everyday life and the natural world, emphasizing
the importance of personal observation and the
transient nature of reality.
Expressionism
•Mood: Intense, emotional, and often unsettling.
The mood can range from dark and brooding to
passionate and frenzied.
•Idea: Expressionism seeks to convey the artist’s
inner emotions and psychological experiences,
often distorting reality to evoke an emotional
response.
•Message: This movement challenges the viewer
to confront raw emotions and the darker aspects
of human existence, emphasizing the subjective
experience over objective reality.
Abstractionism
•Mood: Can vary widely, from calm and
contemplative to dynamic and chaotic,
depending on the artist's approach.
•Idea: Abstractionism focuses on using shapes,
colors, and forms to represent ideas rather than
depicting recognizable objects. It emphasizes
the essential qualities of art rather than its
representational function.

to interpret meaning through personal intuition
and imagination, often challenging traditional
Abstract Expressionism

of painting itself as an expression of the artist’s
inner state. It often involves large-scale
canvases, bold colors, and gestural brushstrokes.
•Message: The movement communicates the
freedom of expression and the complexity of
human emotions, inviting the viewer to engage
with the artwork on a deeply personal level.
Conceptual Art
•Mood: Can be thought-provoking, ironic, or even
neutral, depending on the concept being explored.
•Idea: Conceptual Art prioritizes the idea or concept
behind the artwork over its aesthetic or material
form. The execution of the artwork may be
minimal or even absent.
•Message: This movement questions the nature of
art and challenges traditional notions of artistic
value, often focusing on intellectual engagement
