We live in a world of rules and laws

● There are over 30,000 Federal regulations in America.

● How does the average American reduce that down? Typically we can reduce
the laws down to conscience.

● It can be reduced down to Don’t dishonor God and Don’t Hurt Others.

● We live by our consciences and most of us share a common sort of

conscience which leads to the question: Where does this common
conscience come from?

● God, the Creator, gave us our consciences.

10 Commandments
1. You shall have no other gods before Me.
2. You shall make no idols.
3. You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.
4. Keep the Sabbath day holy.
5. Honor your father and your mother.
6. You shall not murder.
7. You shall not commit adultery.
8. You shall not steal.
9. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
10. You shall not covet.
12 Steps 1/2
1. We admitted we were powerless over alcohol — that our lives had
become unmanageable.
2. Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us
to sanity.
3. Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as
we understood Him.
4. Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.
5. Admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact
nature of our wrongs.
6. Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.
12 Steps 2/2
7. Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings.

8. Made a list of all persons we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all.

9. Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or
others.

10. Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it.

11. Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we
understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.

12. Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these Steps, we tried to carry this message to
alcoholics, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.
22 into 2
● Its a good practice in SMART goal making to make Manageable bite-sized
goals that give you marked evidence of progress.

● We have a total of 22 commands to live by. How can we reduce this to a

manageable level?

● We reduce the 22 down to 2. The Commandments are about how to live a

correct life that pleases God. The 12 steps are about how to live a life in
recovery.

● By creating steps it allows points of rest and foundation. It Encourages by

showing us our progress in relation to the project.
No Gods Before Me
● Elohim;Supreme One-Gen 1:1

● YHWH;Personal Name-Ex3:13

● Jehovah Rapha; The Lord that Heals-Exo 15:26

● Hear O'Israel, The Lord our God, The Lord is One.- Deu 6:4

● God is Above All and should be honored as such.

No Idols before Me.
● Nothing should be set before God in our hearts.

● Our goals, our desires and our passions should not take the place of God.

● Idols are of this world. The damage of this world is what brought us all
here.

● Why would we turn to the thing that makes us sick as if it is the thing
that will heal us?

● We need something external from this world to heal from it.

Honor My Name
● Sad fact many curses have god’s name invoked

● Names are signs of respect

● False Prophecy/WOF/God for Money

Sabbath
● Made in God’s Image and our lives should be in worship and
emulate Him.

● Sabbath is a day dedicated to Him.

● It sets us apart from the World and connects us to the Word.

Steps about Self and God
● 1. We admitted we were powerless over alcohol — that our lives had become
unmanageable.

● 2. Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to

sanity.

● 3. Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as
we understood Him.

● 4. Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.

● 6. Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.

● 7. Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings.

6 Steps to Say What
● Programs need 6 steps to say “Get Right with God”

● We are powerless against this world(1) and only Jesus can save us
(2,3). In opening ourselves to Him and renouncing our sins(4,5), we
pray for guidance in our walk with Him(6).

● Wordyness doesn’t mean more intelligent than a short answer.

Insanity of Secular approaches
● 2nd step. A brick wall is a power greater than us. The courts are
powers greater than us. The ocean is a power greater than us. Can
any of them offer us salvation, sanctification and safety? No its only
God.

● 3rd Step. There is no my truth, your truth. Only Truth. There is no

god as we understand him. There is only God. Note inconsistency
as well. As we understand HIM. They try to deny their own history of
the Oxford Group and yet coopt His.
Why God and Self first?
● If we don’t have the proper Vertical Beam of our Cross of
Relationship set firmly, we can’t begin to relate to anything on the
Horizontal Beam.

● We can’t get right with others if we aren’t right with ourselves.

● We need to know our own principles and align them properly with
God in order to have principled and ethical relationship with others.
Commandments about Self and Others
● Honor your father and your mother.

● You shall not murder.

● You shall not commit adultery.

● You shall not steal.

● You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

● You shall not covet.

Steps about Self and Others
5. Admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our
wrongs.

8. Made a list of all persons we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to
them all.

9. Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would
injure them or others.

10. Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted
it.

11. Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God
as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to
carry that out.

12. Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these Steps, we tried to carry this
message to alcoholics, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.
Follies of steps and letters
● 5th step has a sponsor mandated. Legalism. Our right relationship requires a
mediator or a earthly priest? Horror stories abound about the abuse of sponsors.

● 8th step has us needing to search and find “our part” we played in every trauma
we suffered while existing in our previous lives. They believe that a young child
molested has a part to play in their abuse just as much as a toxic adult does in a
codependent relationship.

● 9th step has us moderate the truth for the comfort of others.

● 11h step showcases the logical inequity of each getting their own God as they
understand Him, while still co-opting Jesus.
After The Vertical, The Hortiztional
● After making right with Self and God, we have a foundational beam
of the spiritual relationships in our lives and can now expand into
the physical world.

● We are able to take the knowledge we learn in applying the first

Commandments and Steps into the application of the second set of
both.
10/12 down to 2
● We’ve reduced down to two Commandments and Two Steps.

● Love God rightly and be Right with Him.

● Love Others as Self and be Right with Others.

● Get Right with Self and God.

● Get right with Others
