JOHN BEATTE Culture is the way of life which is transmitted from generation
to generation.
TYPES OF CULTURE:
NON-MATERIAL CULTURE
Consists of intangible and abstract objects like customs, tradition, habits, manners, attitudes,
beliefs, language, literature, art, law, etc.
This responds how the culture responds to the issue and events.
REAL CULTURE
It is basically observed in social life in which
we act upon in our daily lives.
Ex: MUSLIM - .when Muslim principles are being
followed.
IDEAL CULTURE
Is presented as a pattern to the people and refers to the practices, values, or norms that society
supposed to follow or desires to achieve
2. SHARED All traits, attitudes, knowledge and any material objects like automobiles is
actually shared by any member of the society.
3. TRANSMITTED We learn new fashion, how to live in society, and how to behave
in a particular social situation .
4. CHANGING Culture cannot remain static. It is changing in every society but with
different speed and causes
MORAL BEHAVIOR
IT IS CONCERNED WITH THE PRINCIPLES OF RIGHT
AND WRONG BEHAVIOR AND THE GOODNESS OR
BADNESS OF HUMAN CHARACTER.
A TERM USED TO REFER TO BEHAVIORS THAT ARE
INCLUDED IN THE MORAL DOMAIN.
Culture plays a big role in determining how an individual behaves in any given
environment
Some schools of though believe that everyone has their own ethics.
This means what is considered right or wrong depends on the time, place, and even the
particular preferences or practices of a group of people or
individual person.
It is the idea that each culture or ethnic group is to be evaluated on the basis of its
own values and norms of behavior and not on the basis of another culture or ethnic
group .
It is the ability to understand a culture of its own terms and not to make judgments
using standards of one’s own culture.
The goal of this is to promote understanding of cultural practices that are not typically
part of one’s own culture.
WHY CULTURAL RELATIVISM IS NOT
TENABLE IN ETHICS
It is the failure to recognize that cultural relativism is a cross-cultural principle.
Leads Ethicist to envisage an intra-cultural relativism, where the validity of any society
having any moral standards is denied, resulting in moral chaos and ethical anarchy.
Example:
PAKISTAN
ARE THERE AN ASIAN AND A FILIPINO
UNDERSTANDING OF MORAL
BEHAVIOR: STRENGTHS AND
WEAKENESS?
Traditional and modern Chinese is full of mystery as
it can be difficult to understand.
