A detailed look at the parts used in building a new computer dumbed down for durd
Note: Windows 7
All of the components selected and/or compared are chosen partially on their functionality with Windows 7, as well as their future-proofing. Their price-performance ratios are also (generally) the best in their class. These parts work best with the current and future operating systems. This isnt guaranteed, of course, but their software and performance is the most advanced available for the appropriate price.
Intel and AMD both have top processors, but Intel Core i7 is faster than any AMD model available, and it uses new technologies which will make future upgrades more accessible. This also makes them more likely to handle future operating systems and hardware changes, so much so that it is predicted to outlast the AMD hardware by almost three years. The Intel processor is more expensive, but simply a faster and more futureproof option. Based on that, I have chosen to display parts which are specifically compatible with the i7. The motherboard is the component most affected.
Processors
There are three things that affect processor speed:
Clock Speed (measured in Gigahertz) Number of Cores Architecture
No completely accurate comparison can be made between two processors by one of these factors unless the other two are identical in both components. For example, a single core processor at 3.4 GHz would be nowhere near as fast as a quad core processor running at 2 GHz.
