Here are 3 questions I would ask to start an ethnographic study of a place in our city: 1. How did you first discover this place/space and what made you keep coming back? Understanding what initially drew people can provide insights into the meaning and function of the space. 2. What activities do you typically engage in here and how does this space enable or encourage those activities? Observing how people use and interact with the physical environment can reveal a lot. 3. Who else do you typically encounter here and what is the nature of your interactions? Looking at social dynamics and relationships shed light on the role this place plays in the local community.
