The discipline of Focus
Also known as a Wildly Important Goal (WIG)
1. The more you do, the less you accomplish
2. Keep WIG’s to one or two max per quarter
Discipline 1 – Focus on the Wildly Important
© 2017
© 2017 TREYA CONSULTING LLC© 2018 TREYA CONSULTING LLC
Don’t Ask: What’s most Important?
Ask: What is the one thing you can change that would have the
greatest Impact?
Define according to the following rules:
•Begin with a verb
•Define a lag measure (what is the impact you’re looking for) in terms
of X by Y
•Keep it simple
•Focus on What, not How

The discipline of Leverage
Two types of Measures
1. Lag Measures: Tracking the measures of the WIG (Sales,
Profit, etc

The discipline of Engagement
A compelling Scorecard tells you where you are and where you need
to be. How does this relate to our BVIR’s?
What would you design as a Compelling Scorecard for your WIG’s
Characteristics:
•Simple
•Visible
•Should show both leading and lagging indicators
•Should tell you at a glance if you’re winning or losing
Discipline 3 – Keep a Compelling Scorecard

change? How?
