Investigating The Intrinsic Differences Among The...
Abstract
The following research paper tests and investigates the intrinsic differences among the two tasks
present in the generation task and the affects it has on memory. We believe that the relation of
generating a word compared to simply reading a word has a more lasting effect on the brain and its
memory sensors. This experiment consisted of generated words or read words followed by a rule
(associate, category, opposite, rhyme, synonym) in which the participant was given the first word and
asked to read or generate the following word following the rule type. After a certain period of time the
participants, which consisted of students currently enrolled at Texas A M, were asked to recall the
words they generated or read. Results indicated that that when a word is generated it is recalled at a
more accurate rate.
This essay is geared to establish and report findings based on the phenomenon manifested among a
vast amount of experiments over the years, the generation effect. While there were many informative
articles which slightly applied to the generation effect no true conclusion is reached, therefore this
essay attempts to compile all ideas to come to one solid finding.
The generation effect was developed as a part of memory research, and it states that individuals tend
to recall words that they personally generated better than words participants were given. Since this
phenomenon has been an important part in many studies yet seemed to have no true solid

Kevin Keller Character
Something many readers should keep in mind is that Kevin Keller is not a superhero. He is a part of a
family comic that showcases the struggles, entertainment, and life of a high school teenager. Many
readers can assume, that this character could probably cause some scandal with families. Those
families feeling as though letting their young ones read and be exposed to such material could corrupt
the minds of their children. What is interesting is Kevin Keller is a wonderful portrayal of all the
positiveness in a queer guy. He has no moral issues, does not abuse any kind of substances, and does
not sexualize himself to fit the stereotype of the queer community being too sexual . Readers can
assume this is why Kevin is still in the Archie comics ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What better could they help, then to bring some of their heroes and stories all together to pay tribute to
those lives that were lost that painful early Sunday morning. Love is Love A comic book anthology to
benefit the survivors of the Orlando Pulse shooting, was written by over 35 artist and writers from
across the globe to express their emotions for the loss that happened that day. Readers can come
across many different short stories in this heart filled book. Characters such as Batman, Wonder
Woman, Superman, the Green Lantern, and even the Harry Potter crew make a special appearance to
give back to those souls that are filled with love. Within in the book you also get stories from the
writers and artist of what they experienced during and after the Pulse shooting. With many of them
writing about how many have to continue to hope, many of them have lost hope, and how many of
them are very confused about everything. There seems to be a recurring outcome with all these stores.
Love. Love is love and love trumps hate. That is the hope many of these creators, artist, and writers
still have. That is the hope that many should still have. When these teams bring beloved comic book
heroes for help, its not a cry to be saved but a ray of sunshine that is placed upon many to not give up.

Georges Bizet Research Paper
Bizet: Struggle for Recognition
Georges Bizet born 178 years ago on this day, October 25, 2016 is primarily known for Carmen, the
immensely successful opera that scandalized Paris audiences of the day. Although it is arguably one of
the most famous operas of all time, Bizet did not live to see it achieve recognition. In fact, his life
mostly consisted of a series of struggles, false starts, and failures. Despite this, Bizet s death had a
strong emotional impact on those he left behind, and his work had a significant impact on the music
world.
Bizet the Prodigy
Born into a musical family, Bizet was taught to read and play music at a very young age but was

Over four thousand people attended Bizet s funeral where his fellow composers gave impassioned
eulogies, some even moved to tears by the tragic event. After the burial, they held a special
performance of Carmen which the press, only months after they judged it to be too risqué, heralded as
a masterpiece.
Today Carmen is recognized as one of the greatest operas ever written, thrilling audiences with its
drama and emotional affect. At the Sixth Annual Festival of the Aegean in Syros, Greece, talented
performers, including Francis Bardot s Choeur d Enfants d Ile de France, performed selections of the
now famous work to the enjoyment of the audience. Although Bizet died before his work was

Supporting Empirical Law With Graphical Analysis
Supporting Empirical Law with Graphical Analysis
INTRODUCTION
Much of the new and impressive science throughout history naturally originates from theory; many
great and important mathematical and scientific discoveries come about by excellent thinking. This
does not mean that these findings do not have evidence; even Galileo conducted experiments to
support his claims.
However many brilliant theorists work in a field, physical science derives certain laws only through
experimentation and discovery. An empirical law shows itself to be true not by theory, but by repeated
observations and trials. This experiment discovered the empirical law that predicts the period of a
simple pendulum through graphical analysis. The length of time taken for a simple pendulum to finish
a period cannot be hypothesized on the laws of physics alone. The empirical law of a simple
pendulum, which was revealed after experimentation had concluded, written:
T=2.00√l+0
means that the time, T, of the period of the simple pendulum equals twice the square root of the length.
It was hypothesized that the data collected would support the empirical, within reasonable percent
error. By determining the graphical relationships between different variables and their effect on the
period of the pendulum, the raw data revealed an equation.

A Brief Note On Genetic Engineering And Medical Fields
Throughout history several people have felt a desire to change something about themselves. It could
have been a gene a person carried that could cause illnesses. A person might have had a need for a
new, healthy organ to save their lie or maybe someone wanted to go all the way to the beginning and
change every aspect of himself. Fast forwarded through time to current day and now all of this is
possible with the help from genetic engineering. Genetic engineering is a historical advance in the
science and medical fields that will aid in the cure of diseases and illnesses in humans, transplant of
healthy animal organs to humans, and the creation of the perfect baby for every family.

This could mean that people will not get sick around that time of the year or even getting sick from
having too much stress. CRISPR cas9 is a new technology that allows a nuclease to be deleted or
added (Editing humanity, 11). CRISPR cas9 is responsible for the alterations of the genes of a person.
CRISPR is an antiviral mechanism that acts as a pair of scissors (Even CRISPR, 83). CRISPR
ultimately allows scientists to access a person s gene to pick and choose the genes a person must have
and the genes scientists want to cut out because they are causing a problem to the person. This
technology assists in gene therapy because it has the ability to change the DNA of a person. Many
people arounf the globe will be helped from this technology because of the wide range of illnesses and
diseases it can treat. CRISPR can treat things ranging from Alzheimer s to cancer to HIV (Editing
humanity, 11). With the aid of CRISPR cas9 and genetic engineering there will no longer be so many
deaths from things such as, cancer and other disease. People will end up having better immune
systems and possibly live longer thanks to the technological advance in science and medicine. Another
great attribute of this technology is once scientists fix the current problems of humans today they will
be locked into the germ line and passed down to future generations (The future of...biology, 41). This
means a certain disease or illness that affects the human race will be permanently erased for

The Epidemic Of The Obesity Epidemic Essay
Introduction The World Health Organization (WHO) defines obesity as the excessive accumulation of
fat that puts the person s health at risk (Lenzi et al., 2015). The prevalence of obesity has increased
worldwide over the past three decades. According to Holtz (2016), obese people have outnumbered
the undernourished, with the World Health Organization estimating that 1.9 billion adults are
overweight, out of which about 600 million are obese. Given the recent trends, it is estimated that 1.12
billion people will be obese by 2030 (Grossschädl, 2014). According to a report by the McKinsey
Global Institute, 2014), the global impact of the obesity epidemic is estimated to be $20 trillion, or 2.8
percent of the global gross domestic product (GDP), which is on a par with the global impact from
terrorism, armed violence, smoking, and warfare. Setting the Context Presently, the toll of the
epidemic on healthcare systems alone is between 2 percent and seven percent of net healthcare
spending in industrialized economies, excluding the huge costs associated with the treatment of heart
disease and type 2 diabetes that account for up to twenty percent of healthcare costs (Bassuk Manson,
2008; Alosco et al., 2015). In addition to the costs to healthcare systems, obesity undermines the
productivity of employees, thereby undercutting corporate competitiveness. According to the
Australian Bureau of Statistics (2013), during the period between 2011 and 2012, 62.8 percent of

Linus Pauling Essay
Linus Pauling (1901 1994)
A master and maker in many fields, Linus Pauling lived a very long and productive life spanning
nearly the entire twentieth century. By the time he was in his twenties, he had made a name for
himself as a scientist. After many significant contributions including his work on the nature of the
chemical bond, he turned to chemical biology and is generally accepted as the founder of molecular
biology. Later in his life he became very involved in issues of politics and peace for which he is
somewhat less well known. In his later years, he became interested in health and medicine and
specifically in the use of vitamin C to prevent ailments from the common cold to cancer.

Linus Pauling had an amazing ability to locate interesting problems and to think of various novel
solutions, eventually discarding some to arrive at the most satisfactory answer. He used to say that it
was easy to think of answers, but that the difficult part was deciding which were worth anything. The
questions that Pauling examined and the answers that he posited changed the way that we see the
world and the way that chemistry is taught and learned.
Linus Pauling s life and work are, to me, a source of inspiration. I have, for some time now, been
determined to become a scientist. I have always pursued my goals with tenacity and single
mindedness and can relate well with another who has done the same and with such great success.
Linus Pauling s work as well as his ability to convey his thoughts to large groups of people is
exemplary of the level to which I aspire. It is said that he was an exceptional lecturer with a gift for
communicating complex ideas (Goertzel Goertzel, 1995, xiv). Additionally, his work on the chemical
bond is most important to me because he wanted to understand something fundamental about the
world and was able to do this and to change the way that people for years to come will learn chemistry
and physics. I admire Pauling s versatility and ability to become interested in very diverse areas of

Cultural, religious, and familial influences typically create negative attitudes towards menstruation in women. This leads to self-objectification, disconnection from their mothers and other women. Most discussions of menarche in media and religion portray it as shameful and requiring secret hygienic management. Women are conditioned to believe they must quietly control their menstruating bodies.

Art doesn t have to explain itself, or defend itself. Or convince that it s art in the eye s beholder. It can

Noonan of The Wall Street Journal, It (triggering) has been going on for a while and is part of a

Trigger warnings have long been a main stay for feminist websites, used to alert readers to graphic
descriptions of abuse or violence. (Moore) First thing s first, people define being triggered in two
different ways as time has progressed. Technically, something triggering a person meant that they saw
something that gave them a flashback to a traumatic memory, such as abuse or rape.. Recently, people
are associating trigger warnings with people who get upset when someone has different views than
they do and want nothing to do with a topic they don t agree with. While these warnings are meant in
good nature and safety, they spoil the experience of the piece by giving away what it store for the
viewer. These kinds of warnings don t work the way spoiler alerts, NSFW warnings, or film ratings
do; trigger warnings detail specific pinpoints about an art piece to prevent the viewer to remember a
traumatic experience in the past, or to prevent people who are disturbed by a topic from viewing it.

The Crucible And Salem Witch Trials Similarities
The Red Scare and the Salem Witch Trials were both events that left a mark in American history. The
Red Scare began in 1917 and took place across the United States. The Red Scare was known as the
widespread promotion of anti communism. The Salem Witch Trials began in 1692 and took place in
Salem, Massachusetts. The Salem Witch Trials were various court hearings and prosecutions of people
in Salem accused of Witchcraft. Arthur Miller wrote The Crucible, a play about the Salem Witch
Trials, to send a message to Senator Joseph McCarthy, the face of the Red Scare. Even though both
events took place at completely different times their connection remains profound. The Crucible and
the Red Scare have various similarities and allegories that make both events connect despite the gap of
time. Arthur Miller, wrote The Crucible with the intention of comparing the Red Scare to the Salem
Witch Trials. One of the many similarities between the Red Scare and the Salem Witch Trials is the
way both events started. Both events were started by people making false accusations. During the Red
Scare people were accused of being communists. At one of his speeches in Wheeling, West Virginia,
in 1950, Senator Joseph McCarthy claimed to hold in my hand a list of individuals who were both
serving in government and participating in the communist party. (Brinkley2) Thanks to McCarthy s
popular style, people never questioned his supposed list. During the Salem Witch Trials people were

What Is Phineas Gage Case
The Curious Case of Phineas Gage On the date of September 13th, 1848, one of the greatest medical
miracles in history occurred. Not only was this case amazing, it was sounded too unbelievable to most
and became liken into an old folk tale. However, this was no folk tale. The story of the living mad
with a rod in his head was true and it stunned the entire medical community. This is the story of
Phineas Gage. Working on a railroad is a dangerous job even in modern times. Thousands of people
are hurt either working on railroads or being around railroads each year (Schottenstein, 2015).
Therefore, as you can imagine, injuries and deaths were happening at an even higher rate in the 1800s.

Gage did, according to Harlow, retain full possession of his reason after the accident, but his wife and
other people close to him soon began to notice dramatic changes in his personality (Constandi, 2006).
Brain injury can often cause this type of personality change. It has been documented in many different
cases. However, post injury personality changes also meant that we dealt with bouts of intense anger,
confusion, and unpredictable behavior (Cromer, 2012). These types of personality can differ, however
they are usually negative. This was seen in the case of Phineas Gage. Sadly his personality and
temperament wasn t the only thing that changed. Before the accident he was considered as one of the
best workers on the job site (Constandi, 2006). However, after the injury, he could hardly work.
(Constandi, 2006). His contractors, who regarded him as the most efficient and capable foreman in
their employ previous to his injury, considered the change in his mind so marked that they could not
give him his place again. He is fitful, irreverent, indulging at times in the grossest profanity (which
was not previously his custom), manifesting but little deference for his fellows, impatient of restraint
of advice when it conflicts with his desires, at times pertinaciously obstinent, yet capricious and
vacillating, devising many plans of future operation, which are no sooner arranged than they are
abandoned in turn for others appearing more feasible. In this regard, his mind was radically changed,
so decidedly that his friends and acquaintances said he was no longer Gage. (Constandi, 2006). He
sadly resorted to using his injury as an attraction to make money. He began traveling to do
appearances so that people could see the injury and pay him for the entertainment (Constandi, 2006).

Ancient Greek Culture And Its Impact On Modern Society
The ancient Greeks, or also called the Hellenes, had a more westernized culture compared to other
surrounding cultures in their time. Much of ancient Greek culture has influenced our culture today in
America. They have influenced modern society through their religion, architecture, theatre, literature,
society, language and sports. An important aspect of ancient Greece culture was their religion. The
ancient Greeks created Greek Mythology to help convey natural occurrences and changes of nature
because they were not advanced enough to explain why these things happened.1 They created many
narratives and myths based on this religion and their gods. Today we see and use many aspects of their
religion in modern culture. Many names for our planets and constellations come from Greek
mythology names. Some cities in the United States use the names of Greek gods and goddesses. The
zodiac signs used in horoscopes today are based on their mythology.

Analysis Of Annie Dillard s The Wild Weasel
Step 2 Quote 1: Throughout the entire essay, Annie Dillard states that the ultimate way one should
strive to act is like a wild weasel. Dillard emphasizes in order to achieve our final goal, through our
actions we should act mindlessly. Ironically she promotes the characteristic of mindlessness, while our
main function is to use logic to justify our acts. However, Dillard suggests that we should live by
using our instincts rather than our intellect to avoid prejudice. She claims that we should thoughtlessly
go about our life avoiding choices. Contrary to what Dillard believes, it is crucial to reflect on every
decision one makes. Quote 2: Dillard declares that animals live to survive and they do not have the
capacity to make choices. They do not have to plan for the future or worry about what they must do to
succeed. The animals use their instincts to focus on their sustenance. On the other hand, humans
despise the necessary requirements to live. We live with the freedom of choice, making our own
decisions to develop our future. Quote 3: We humans choose the lifestyle we desire. It is our choices
that create our living style. Dillard states that one should find a field in which he/she feels passionate
about and pursue a career in that particular field. She urges us to find our one true calling, instead of
abiding by societal standards. Step 3 We all have two choices in life: to live life joyfully or
despondently. The choices we make define our future, which

Generalization refers to how applicable experimental results are to the overall population being studied. What Is The Leading Cause Of Climate Change
Climate change is happening, like it or not and is affecting the world. Higher percentages of carbon
dioxide(CO2) in the atmosphere is increasing due to human activities, greenhouse gases(GHG) and
global warming have shown to have caused negative impacts on the environment and the world we
live in. There are many causes of climate change, which cannot be entirely rid of. However, by taking
steps in carbon emission industries, it can ensure a reduction of CO2 and greenhouse gasses. One of
the leading causes of climate change is the process of burning fossil fuels and coal. This is because of
its usage in providing energy for day to day things, like heat, electricity, fuel, manufacturing, and
cement. David Biello is an energy, and environment editor for the Scientific American, a popular
scientific magazine with many famous scientist publications focused on informing the public states
that making cement using these fuels produced nearly 46 teragrams alone in 2005(Biello). It is the
third biggest leading cause in U.S. GHG emission. That is why alternative energy efficient methods
need to be implemented, in the process of making cement instead of nonrenewable sources like fossil
fuels. Manufacturers have incorporated cement everywhere, It s what many walks in, it s what
supports buildings, and it s even in a variety of houses. David Biello also mentions Lenny Bernstein,
an environmental consultant and is also a leading coordinator for the IPCC, he says that energy

Personal Professional Goals
Personal, Academic, and Professional Goals/Personal Qualities My mother battled mental illness
during her life. Unfortunately she lost her battle in September 2013. Since her surprising death I have
soul searched and researched ways to help others like my mother. That introspection has brought me to
your program, Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling. Since graduating I have read about and
researched more in depth information about mental illness, addiction, and family counseling. This
strong want to fill a role for people suffering mentally is why I am applying now. I would love to build
a career around a topic that is so personal to me and my life. While I earn my degree I will be seeking
employment and volunteer opportunities within long term in patient facilities. In addition to seeking
this opportunities I will continue to learn Spanish, so that I can communicate with a wider range of the
public. After obtaining my graduate degree in Mental Health Counseling I can see myself following
many different career paths. I would like to obtain employment working with corrections and those

This type of discussion can become very heated depending on your friends or family. When I
researched Islam, I also was not able to develop a clear sense of beliefs, without political rhetoric
interrupting. A simple search of Islam can yield many different answers to the same question. What
one Muslim believes in the United States is completely different in another country. For instance here
we do not follow Sharia Law, educated women exist and drive without any conflict. Saudi Arabia does
follow Sharia Law, women cannot be educated or drive. Culture and those that interpret religious
teaching influence Islam. Finally in my frustration I reached out to a YouTube star , Samantha

The Veil Of Lies On The Book Cover
A boy wandered and he came across the grapefruit tree. It was a journey of self acceptance, the
uncertainty of faith, and the crumbling American state of mind. She sang of heartache and sacrifice in
the name of god. She sang of identity. Half orange, half Pomelo, she said. Just as the boy was half
Hawaiian, half Haole, they were so sure of who they were. Yet unknowing to what it means, and to
where the boy belongs. We are all on a visual journey to our true selves, and every song and painting,
every friend every enemy, another brick on the path; another thistle in the bush. Ours is a visceral

Sacrificing my truth for the lie that I was willing to hold within myself in the confines of this skeletal
prison long past when this body has taken it s last breath. I find comfort in confiding in other s, my

lone space capsule is carrying a body whose soul is long gone by now, whose body has been lifeless
for what seemed to be eternities. The capsule has been hurtling through space, and it now approaches
the end of its journey. A black hole sings forebodingly at the metal casing of the astronaut s tomb. The
atoms of his coffin rattle at the prospect of the infinite darkness, the cells of his body, although long
dead, weep at the visions of coming infinite darkness, the shell of his crypt vibrates with unrequited
love. What lies beyond our journey is unknown, and nothing can stop the influence of gravity and the
inevitability of the passage of time. We can only begin to understand what life means to us, and by
then we are dead. Between the infinite darkness and our journey from the uterus, we

Gurdjieff Sleep
The most famous statement of Gurdjieff in this context is that, Man is asleep. He is born in sleep, lives
in sleep and dies in sleep. Life for him is only a dream from which he never awakes. He lives in a
sleep waking world moving about in the twilight of consciousness and yet imagines himself to be
awake . Sleeping here stands for not being aware. It is interesting to note that Buddha is called as
awakened one. It was not the case that Buddha before he attained to Nirvana was sleeping all
throughout. Then why is he called as an awakened one? Because though Buddha was awake from
worldly point of view, he was actually sleeping from the point of view of awareness. Consciousness
does not mean wakefulness. Even animals are conscious but they are sleeping from the point of view
of awareness. In fact, when we wake up from dreaming, we immediately realize how unreal that
dream was. But while we are dreaming, in the midst of dreaming, the dream is totally real. In fact, we
even physically respond to the dream by changes in our breathing pattern, by palpitations of the heart,
by changes in sweating and by hormonal secretions. Like we wake up from the dream, in the same
manner Gurdjieff talks about waking up from our waking sleep . ... Show more content on

The document discusses that there is no natural duty to obey the law and explores how using the natural theory to claim such a duty is ambiguous and does not sufficiently justify obeying the law simply because it is law. It addresses the question of what kind of duty, if any, exists to obey the law in a reasonably decent democratic society by refuting arguments for a natural duty and exploring the consequences of such a view.

Analysis Of Girl By Jamaica Kincaid
Society has created in their minds the way a woman is supposed to act and the things they are allowed
to do. In Jamaica Kincaid s Girl , we see a young woman being forced to live by the likeness of the
society in which she dwells. Although this is not the life she wants to live, she has no other choice
than to become the woman she was made to be.
Throughout time the relationship between mothers and daughters have changed. Many mothers hold
on to the old fashioned opinion of what a woman should be and many older women feel that a women
s true role in life is to be domesticated. This idea of a woman s place in the home is being reinforced
throughout Kincaid s short story. The mother in the story is telling her young daughter the ways things
should be done. Wash the white clothes on Monday and put them on the stone heap; wash the colored
clothes on Tuesday and put them on the clothesline to dry. She further goes on to describe other
household chores and how they should be correctly done. This is how you sweep a corner. She tells
her daughter how to set a table for different meals, how to cook things, and even how to pick out
bread. Unfortunately, though, the story doesn t tell a woman how to have a successful career, to go to
college, or how to work outside of the home. In those days women were expected to stay at home
while their husband s go out to work and make all the money. Even if they tried, they were not
allowed to go outside the way society made them to be and this mother is trying to raise her young
daughter the same way she was raised which is to be a house wife.
Even though the girl says nothing in the story, she is building resentment towards her mother because
she feels that she should be allowed to make her own decision on whether to be domesticated.
Throughout the story never did the mother once stop to get her daughter s input on the issues, she just
simply tells her daughter that she has no other choice but to be domesticated and there is no way of
changing it. She tells the daughter how to act, how to dress, how to talk, and even how to walk.
Always eat your food in a way that it won t turn someone else s stomach...On Sundays try to walk like

Medical And Psychological Treatment Of Mental Health
There is a severe lack of understanding about mental health throughout many communities throughout
the country. Because of this, many people do not accept the fact that mental illness is a genuine
struggle that many people face on a daily basis and, as a result, most do not understand how
widespread it is, particularly for adolescents. According to recent research, 10 15% of teenagers have
experienced some symptoms of depression, roughly 20% percent of teens will experience depression
before they reach adulthood, and adolescents who suffer from depression are twelve times more likely
to attempt suicide. . One health behavior thatis extremely important is receiving medical and
psychological treatment for mental illness. However, because mental health is still a taboo issue within
many communities, there are many risk and protective factors that need to be taken into consideration.
Evaluating these using the five levels of the social ecological model individual, interpersonal,
organizational, community, and public policy explains how individuals are affected by themselves,
their relationships, their community, and their society as a whole. The first level of this model is the
individual. One of the largest risk factors of individuals seeking treatment for mental illness is the
difficulty of self identification. Adolescents are surrounded by a variety of pressures, so oftentimes the
individual is unable to detect that he/she is struggling from mental illness. If the individual

Homo Suburbiensis by Bruce Dawe.
Introduction: Homo Suburbiensis is as much a poem about the human condition, as it is a record of
one man s escape from the demands of his existence. Homo Suburbiensis uses one man s escape from
his demands to represent our universal need to contemplate and resolve our own uncertainties in life in
our own special place. Dawe uses a series of imagery to depict the workings of our minds and a chain
of unpleasent sensory experiences to illustrate unwanted intrusions in our lives. Through the vague
depictions of these intrusions Dawe urges us not to give great attention to them, but to offer to the
world, our most truthful emotions and thoughts. The man in the poem is not just a one individual.

The Benefits Of Marching Band
Many people can t see the benefits obtained by being in marching band. If one s social life isn t very
strong, and they aren t very extroverted, marching band is a great solution. My band, the Deltona High
School Blue Brigade, greatly encouraged bonding among band members because band is a family, not
just a music group. Marching band is also a sport. It s a team effort, requiring a lot of physical
exertion, and it gives a sense of competition. Marching band also teaches some hierarchy, which is a
useful thing to know in the workforce. Another important aspect of band is that it s a really good
experience. It may be stressful at times, but it is definitely worth it. Having been in band for seven
years, I can confirm all of this.
Because I have ADHD and Asperger Syndrome, I find it very hard to speak out and socialize. But
since I was in marching band in high school, I found that I was more social. People aren t supposed to
talk in the middle of rehearsal, but that didn t stop the members of my band from bonding outside of
practice time. Band definitely changed the life of a friend of mine. When I first met him in middle
school, he was so shy, he was virtually silent. Thanks to his experience in band, he now often speaks
his mind. Marching band can help many people become more social. After all, band isn t just a group
of people who play music. Band is a family.
A team sport includes two things: physical exertion and team effort. Marching band is both of these
things. It s

The Importance Of A Civic Engagement Opportunity As A...
The Civic Engagement assignment illustrates the value of incorporating a civic engagement
opportunity as a supplement to traditional lecture and reading materials. While this assignment differs
from service learning, the civic learning that takes place during the semester leads to the development
of knowledge, skills, and community contacts that are necessary for active citizenship. As described
throughout this paper, despite the passive sounding title of courtroom observation, this assignment
requires significant interaction and engagement with court personnel to be completed successfully.
Since my father is a sheriff s deputy, it was easy for me to gain clearance to sit in the jury s box and to
watch criminal plea charges. The process I observed was startling because I did not imagine that, in
one morning, a single courtroom could go through almost five pages of client sentences
(approximately forty clients). In addition, I gained a better understanding of how courts operate
without the presence of a jury. Still, I was confused; What is the purpose of the judicial center? Who
else is involved? Are charges fairly made?
It was 7:30 a.m. on Monday, November 7, 2016. I woke up, took a cold shower, put on my formal
attire, and then left with my father to go to the judicial center at the McDonough Square. By 8:00 a.m.,
my father introduced me to the sheriff deputies that had scanned me into the building. Officer Thomas

BOOTLEGGING In 1919, the Eighteenth Amendment was passed, this amendment made the
consumption and sell of alcohol illegal. A group of people referred to as moral reformers felt that
banning the sell and consumption of alcohol would better protect the lives of people as well as make
them better (Rose). Businesses, such as industrial businesses, believed that it would better productivity
if the workers could remain sober. The Volsted Act was passed shortly after the Eighteenth

Firstly, passion helps me succeed in playing basketball. For example my love for the game has built

chance to, I will play for six to eight hours in a day. Therefore, it is pure passion that I am able to play
a physically demanding activity for such long periods of time. Secondly, passion gets me excited
about certain chess moves. For example, a friend of mine once fell for a trap I had set up in a chess
game, and I yelled Yes really loudly. Therefore, my enthusiasm for the game helped me be successful.
Thirdly, passion causes me to put chess games in front of other things in life. For example, if I am
playing in a chess match up that is really important to me, I will focus on that game more than normal,
instead of other things like getting on Facebook, and other social media websites, and sadly sometimes

Empirical Formula of Zinc Iodide

Upon completion of this experiment, students should have learned:

3. The concept of limiting reagents.
Introduction
Synthesis and the determination of empirical formulas are two extremely important parts of chemistry.
In this experiment, you will synthesize zinc iodide and determine its empirical formula. The molecular
formula gives the actual number of atoms of each element in the molecule and the empirical formula
gives the lowest whole number ratio of the atoms in the molecule. For instance, the molecular formula

For instance, sodium chloride and sodium oxide should be and are NaCl and Na2O respectively.
Aluminum chloride and aluminum oxide should be and are AlCl3 and Al2O3. When there are multiple
oxidation states of a metal, more than one compound is possible. For instance, copper and oxygen
form Cu2O and CuO and more information are needed to distinguish between the two. When naming
a copper oxide, it is very important that the name distinguish between the two possibilities [copper(I)
oxide or cuprous oxide and copper(II) oxide or cupric oxide].
Care must be exercised as chemistry often contains wonderful surprises. Suppose the percent by mass
experiment for an iron oxide results in 72.36% Fe by mass and 27.64% O by mass. Following the
procedure above, results in a molar ratio of 1.296:1.727. Division by the lowest number, results in a
mole ratio of 1:1.33. For cases like this, the next step is to multiply by the lowest whole number that
converts each of the subscripts to a whole number. Thus the formula is Fe3O4. As iron has two
oxidation states (+2, +3), the expected formula is either FeO of Fe2O3. Anytime a result that is
inconsistent with expectations is obtained, the first and immediate step should be to recheck all the
data and calculations. In this case, the results are real and Fe3O4 is a known compound often called
magnetite. Understanding the oxidation state of iron in this compound

Divorce rates have more than doubled between the mid-1960s and early 1980s, and statistics now show a rate of nearly 50% since 1960 compared to less than 20% previously. Perceptions of divorce have changed as the value of marriage has changed from a necessity to an irrevocable commitment to a more flexible institution. Divorce was stigmatized until no-fault divorces were introduced in the 1970s, making it easier to dissolve a marriage without proving fault. The increasing social acceptance of divorce has changed society's views on relationships and family structures.

The fresco depicts figures of male and female in contrasting representations of power. On the left are six kings dressed in luxurious robes, symbolizing the political power of the region. On the right is a naked female figure, representing the male gaze and a power dynamic where men act and women are for appearance. The fresco illustrates the persisting patriarchal power structures of today through its visual representation of gender roles and dynamics of looking.

Why Zoos Should Not Be Used
By the basic definition, something is rare when it either does not occur often or it is not found in large
numbers which adds to its interest and value. The rarity of an object can be argued by different groups
of people. This causes debates about what should be considered rare and to what degree of rarity an
object is. If said object is classified as rare, what should be done with that object or idea and how, if at
all, should it be preserved. In this essay, I am going to question the idea of rarity and show why rarity
should not be used as a way to regulate environments. One view of rarity comes from the realists; they
believe ... an object is unique within a purview: given a certain boundary, there exists no other object
like it. This idea makes defining something as rare only specific to the boundary set. So, if something
is rare in America it may not be as rare, if rare at all, in Europe. This could have complications when
considering different aspects of nature and how to define those aspects as rare. For example, to
Americans the Niagara Falls is a rare phenomenon and should be maintained due to their rarity,
however in other parts of the world there are falls just as good, if not better than the Niagara Falls. An
example of this would be the Victoria Falls in Africa; this is also a rare phenomenon but is it equally
as rare as the Niagara Falls? When trying to regulate environments, rarity always comes into play as it
pertains to preservation. The rarer something

Causes Of Autism Spectrum Disorder
Autism Spectrum Disorder is a range of predicaments identified by challenges with social skills,
repetitive behaviour, speech and non verbal communication. Signs of this disorder usually come to the
parents attention during the first two years of the child s life. Although in some cases children reach
their developmental milestones at a normal pace and then start to relapse, most often these signs
develop gradually. The diagnostic criteria require that these symptoms become apparent in early
childhood, generally before age three. Autism is formed due to a mixture of genetic and environmental
factors. In some circumstances Autism is associated with certain diseases gained during pregnancy by
making use of drugs and alcohol or by receiving infections

The Importance Of Human Evil In Joseph Conrad s Heart Of...
In literature and in life, an individual can sometimes be to blame for his/her own downfall. Good
intentions lose their morality. Temptations of greater success loom malevolently making moral
corruption inevitable for some. Often times, one does not see the darkness he has stirred up until the
time of his death approaches. As presented in Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness, the inclusion of
lines foreboding death and an actual death scene demonstrate how human goodness can be engulfed
by the billowing swells of darkness present in everyone.
Throughout the novella, the reader travels with Marlow, the protagonist and one of the narrators,
through the jungle to various stations of an ivory trading company where he notices the abundance of
death. He obtains a job working for The Company, which also employees the infamous Kurtz, a man
in the innermost station who brings in far more ivory than everyone else. From the start, The
Company possesses a corrupted imperialistic attitude of which Marlow is aware. Upon entering the
head office in Brussels to discuss his job, Marlow feels slightly uneasy (8) already. The Company s
office reminds him of a whited sepulcher (7) with its pretty exterior but potentially dark interior.
Outside of the first door he approaches, Marlow meets two women...knitting black wool (7). These
women represent the Fates from Greek mythology and their presence indicates a death to come. Death
also resides in the grove of death (25). In the grove of

38), also points out that conflict may be viewed as an opportunity to learn, to see beyond our limited
personal experience, to connect to others, to recognize our potential, and to collaborate in generating
new solutions to old problems.
However conflict is viewed, students who can manage their conflicts in a rational, civil and effective
way, allow teachers to devote more time to teaching rather than resolving student disputes and/or
dealing with disruptive situations, which supports student achievement (www.knowconflict.com,
2006). Thus students who practice effective conflict management skills, help to create a positive
environment where students can focus on learning. (www.knowconflict.com, 2006). Additionally,
exposure to conflict resolution skills by disseminating attitudes, knowledge, and skills that deter
violence throughout the school day, may result in more peaceful resolutions of conflict and fewer
episodes of violence both in and out of school (Mauricio, Dillman Carpentier, Horan, 2005).
Items Used
The questions selected are used to not only help identify how students deal with conflict, but how
often they display unconstructive conflict management behaviors as well. Their responses will serve
as a transition into conflict management activities aimed to provide students with the knowledge,
skills, and practice necessary to choose alternative, constructive behaviors when faced with conflict

The document discusses the failure of the 18th amendment which prohibited alcohol in the United States. It led to the rise of illegal drinking establishments called speakeasies and bootleggers who illegally provided alcohol. The 21st amendment was then passed in 1933 to repeal the 18th amendment and end prohibition, as it had failed to stop drinking and only increased criminal activity. The failure of prohibition showed that banning popular substances tends to drive demand underground rather than eliminate it.

You would be involved in civil cases like forgeries and fraud, and even the more well known crimes
like murder, robbery and rape. If you were to choose this career, you would be most likely analysing
crime scenes, testing DNA, and matching fingerprints. You would also need to look at when and
where the actual crime was committed. Say someone has been murdered, you d need to find out if that
person had died at the location or was killed somewhere else, and where. You d also look at how they
died, what injury actually killed the person.
When people think of forensics, they usually think of crimes like murder and robberies. However that
is not always the case. You may also do things that you didn t think you d have to, like testing if water
from taps meets legal purity levels, or investigating the use of pesticide on crops. It can be a whole
range of things, as long as it falls under the

Comparison Between Island Of Inventions And The Pearl
The time and work you put into a dream that has no chance of coming true is time truly wasted, the
time could be used towards other things. According to The Island of Inventions and The Pearl , no
matter how hard or how much work and time you put into a dream you desperately want to come true
it has a chance of not happening. There will always be a person or group people who tell you your
dream is not worth it and it ll not do you any good in life.
As time passed the disappointment of not being sent the letter gave, but even after that no invitation
came . These are words from The Island Of Inventions it s tell us if we spend our entire life waiting
for something that will possibly never come it ll end up disappointing us. You spend all this time
hoping and wishing that it s possible, but that s the thing about dreams we sometimes need to get
slapped back into reality and realize that the work you put into a dream that doesn t come true, comes
back to you only to you and remind you everything you ve put into it wasn t worth it or worth your
time. We need to face reality and be okay with the things we have. Because if we don t we could end
up losing everything we love, just to get something better when we already have everything that we
need. You not only have to make sure that your ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Neurological Changes in a Patient with Several Brain Masses During clinical this week, I took care of
an 81 year old man who was admitted for having an altered mental status and brain masses. The
family was at the hospital and had to quickly make the decision on whether they wanted to go through
with a craniotomy and have the masses biopsied to further go through with treatment, or to choose the
comfort measures option. Throughout my time at clinical this week, I was able to recognize a
neurological decline in this patient s condition. Throughout this paper, the change in this patient s
condition, my actions, the collaboration with team members, interventions, follow up care, and the
rationale will all be furthered explored.

These platelets did not get done in time, therefore we once again had to collaborate with the surgical
team and let them know that he still needed to get one more unit of platelets. According to Cooper et
al., a quasi experimental design was done to assess the nurse teams abilities to manage deteriorating
patients. Both skill performance and situation awareness were analyzed. Results showed that only
64% of nurses knew that their patient s condition was deteriorating. A 57% rating was given for
teamwork. Overall, this study showed that there was a low application of knowledge shown by the
nurses. It is suggested that nurses be taught how to identify when a patient s condition is deteriorating
(Cooper et al., 2012). According to Chan, Zhou, Liaw (2013), ineffective nurse physician
collaboration leads to work dissatisfaction and compromised quality patient care. A literature search
was done to explore the attitudes of physicians and nurses towards their collaboration, the factors that
affect physician nurse collaboration, and also strategies to improve this. Results showed that
physicians viewed the physician nurse collaboration as less important, although they rated the quality
of the collaboration higher than the nurses did. Factors that affected the collaboration included respect,
trust, unequal power, understanding their roles, and also task prioritizing. Two ways to improve the

  • 2. Investigating The Intrinsic Differences Among The... Abstract The following research paper tests and investigates the intrinsic differences among the two tasks present in the generation task and the affects it has on memory. We believe that the relation of generating a word compared to simply reading a word has a more lasting effect on the brain and its memory sensors. This experiment consisted of generated words or read words followed by a rule (associate, category, opposite, rhyme, synonym) in which the participant was given the first word and asked to read or generate the following word following the rule type. After a certain period of time the participants, which consisted of students currently enrolled at Texas A M, were asked to recall the words they generated or read. Results indicated that that when a word is generated it is recalled at a more accurate rate. This essay is geared to establish and report findings based on the phenomenon manifested among a vast amount of experiments over the years, the generation effect. While there were many informative articles which slightly applied to the generation effect no true conclusion is reached, therefore this essay attempts to compile all ideas to come to one solid finding. The generation effect was developed as a part of memory research, and it states that individuals tend to recall words that they personally generated better than words participants were given. Since this phenomenon has been an important part in many studies yet seemed to have no true solid ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Kevin Keller Character Something many readers should keep in mind is that Kevin Keller is not a superhero. He is a part of a family comic that showcases the struggles, entertainment, and life of a high school teenager. Many readers can assume, that this character could probably cause some scandal with families. Those families feeling as though letting their young ones read and be exposed to such material could corrupt the minds of their children. What is interesting is Kevin Keller is a wonderful portrayal of all the positiveness in a queer guy. He has no moral issues, does not abuse any kind of substances, and does not sexualize himself to fit the stereotype of the queer community being too sexual . Readers can assume this is why Kevin is still in the Archie comics ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What better could they help, then to bring some of their heroes and stories all together to pay tribute to those lives that were lost that painful early Sunday morning. Love is Love A comic book anthology to benefit the survivors of the Orlando Pulse shooting, was written by over 35 artist and writers from across the globe to express their emotions for the loss that happened that day. Readers can come across many different short stories in this heart filled book. Characters such as Batman, Wonder Woman, Superman, the Green Lantern, and even the Harry Potter crew make a special appearance to give back to those souls that are filled with love. Within in the book you also get stories from the writers and artist of what they experienced during and after the Pulse shooting. With many of them writing about how many have to continue to hope, many of them have lost hope, and how many of them are very confused about everything. There seems to be a recurring outcome with all these stores. Love. Love is love and love trumps hate. That is the hope many of these creators, artist, and writers still have. That is the hope that many should still have. When these teams bring beloved comic book heroes for help, its not a cry to be saved but a ray of sunshine that is placed upon many to not give up. • 4. Georges Bizet Research Paper Bizet: Struggle for Recognition Georges Bizet born 178 years ago on this day, October 25, 2016 is primarily known for Carmen, the immensely successful opera that scandalized Paris audiences of the day. Although it is arguably one of the most famous operas of all time, Bizet did not live to see it achieve recognition. In fact, his life mostly consisted of a series of struggles, false starts, and failures. Despite this, Bizet s death had a strong emotional impact on those he left behind, and his work had a significant impact on the music world. After the burial, they held a special performance of Carmen which the press, only months after they judged it to be too risqué, heralded as a masterpiece. Today Carmen is recognized as one of the greatest operas ever written, thrilling audiences with its drama and emotional affect. At the Sixth Annual Festival of the Aegean in Syros, Greece, talented performers, including Francis Bardot s Choeur d Enfants d Ile de France, performed selections of the now famous work to the enjoyment of the audience. • 5. Supporting Empirical Law With Graphical Analysis Supporting Empirical Law with Graphical Analysis INTRODUCTION Much of the new and impressive science throughout history naturally originates from theory; many great and important mathematical and scientific discoveries come about by excellent thinking. This does not mean that these findings do not have evidence; even Galileo conducted experiments to support his claims. However many brilliant theorists work in a field, physical science derives certain laws only through experimentation and discovery. An empirical law shows itself to be true not by theory, but by repeated observations and trials. This experiment discovered the empirical law that predicts the period of a simple pendulum through graphical analysis. The length of time taken for a simple pendulum to finish a period cannot be hypothesized on the laws of physics alone. The empirical law of a simple pendulum, which was revealed after experimentation had concluded, written: T=2.00√l+0 means that the time, T, of the period of the simple pendulum equals twice the square root of the length. It was hypothesized that the data collected would support the empirical, within reasonable percent error. By determining the graphical relationships between different variables and their effect on the period of the pendulum, the raw data revealed an equation. PHYSICS IN PRACTICE A huge branch of chemistry, called kinetics, relies on well established rate laws to determine the progress of a reaction from its ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. A Brief Note On Genetic Engineering And Medical Fields Throughout history several people have felt a desire to change something about themselves. It could have been a gene a person carried that could cause illnesses. A person might have had a need for a new, healthy organ to save their lie or maybe someone wanted to go all the way to the beginning and change every aspect of himself. Fast forwarded through time to current day and now all of this is possible with the help from genetic engineering. Genetic engineering is a historical advance in the science and medical fields that will aid in the cure of diseases and illnesses in humans, transplant of healthy animal organs to humans, and the creation of the perfect baby for every family. CRISPR cas9 is a new technology that allows a nuclease to be deleted or added (Editing humanity, 11). CRISPR cas9 is responsible for the alterations of the genes of a person. CRISPR is an antiviral mechanism that acts as a pair of scissors (Even CRISPR, 83). CRISPR ultimately allows scientists to access a person s gene to pick and choose the genes a person must have and the genes scientists want to cut out because they are causing a problem to the person. This technology assists in gene therapy because it has the ability to change the DNA of a person. Many people arounf the globe will be helped from this technology because of the wide range of illnesses and diseases it can treat. CRISPR can treat things ranging from Alzheimer s to cancer to HIV (Editing humanity, 11). With the aid of CRISPR cas9 and genetic engineering there will no longer be so many deaths from things such as, cancer and other disease. People will end up having better immune systems and possibly live longer thanks to the technological advance in science and medicine. Another great attribute of this technology is once scientists fix the current problems of humans today they will be locked into the germ line and passed down to future generations (The future of...biology, 41). • 7. The Epidemic Of The Obesity Epidemic Essay Introduction The World Health Organization (WHO) defines obesity as the excessive accumulation of fat that puts the person s health at risk (Lenzi et al., 2015). The prevalence of obesity has increased worldwide over the past three decades. According to Holtz (2016), obese people have outnumbered the undernourished, with the World Health Organization estimating that 1.9 billion adults are overweight, out of which about 600 million are obese. Given the recent trends, it is estimated that 1.12 billion people will be obese by 2030 (Grossschädl, 2014). According to a report by the McKinsey Global Institute, 2014), the global impact of the obesity epidemic is estimated to be $20 trillion, or 2.8 percent of the global gross domestic product (GDP), which is on a par with the global impact from terrorism, armed violence, smoking, and warfare. Setting the Context Presently, the toll of the epidemic on healthcare systems alone is between 2 percent and seven percent of net healthcare spending in industrialized economies, excluding the huge costs associated with the treatment of heart disease and type 2 diabetes that account for up to twenty percent of healthcare costs (Bassuk Manson, 2008; Alosco et al., 2015). In addition to the costs to healthcare systems, obesity undermines the productivity of employees, thereby undercutting corporate competitiveness. According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (2013), during the period between 2011 and 2012, 62.8 percent of Australians ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Linus Pauling Essay Linus Pauling (1901 1994) A master and maker in many fields, Linus Pauling lived a very long and productive life spanning nearly the entire twentieth century. By the time he was in his twenties, he had made a name for himself as a scientist. After many significant contributions including his work on the nature of the chemical bond, he turned to chemical biology and is generally accepted as the founder of molecular biology. Later in his life he became very involved in issues of politics and peace for which he is somewhat less well known. In his later years, he became interested in health and medicine and specifically in the use of vitamin C to prevent ailments from the common cold to cancer. In Pauling s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Linus Pauling had an amazing ability to locate interesting problems and to think of various novel solutions, eventually discarding some to arrive at the most satisfactory answer. He used to say that it was easy to think of answers, but that the difficult part was deciding which were worth anything. The questions that Pauling examined and the answers that he posited changed the way that we see the world and the way that chemistry is taught and learned. Linus Pauling s life and work are, to me, a source of inspiration. I have, for some time now, been determined to become a scientist. I have always pursued my goals with tenacity and single mindedness and can relate well with another who has done the same and with such great success. Linus Pauling s work as well as his ability to convey his thoughts to large groups of people is exemplary of the level to which I aspire. It is said that he was an exceptional lecturer with a gift for communicating complex ideas (Goertzel Goertzel, 1995, xiv). Additionally, his work on the chemical bond is most important to me because he wanted to understand something fundamental about the world and was able to do this and to change the way that people for years to come will learn chemistry and physics. Recently, people are associating trigger warnings with people who get upset when someone has different views than they do and want nothing to do with a topic they don t agree with. While these warnings are meant in good nature and safety, they spoil the experience of the piece by giving away what it store for the viewer. These kinds of warnings don t work the way spoiler alerts, NSFW warnings, or film ratings do; trigger warnings detail specific pinpoints about an art piece to prevent the viewer to remember a traumatic experience in the past, or to prevent people who are disturbed by a topic from viewing it. • 11. The Crucible And Salem Witch Trials Similarities The Red Scare and the Salem Witch Trials were both events that left a mark in American history. The Red Scare began in 1917 and took place across the United States. The Red Scare was known as the widespread promotion of anti communism. The Salem Witch Trials began in 1692 and took place in Salem, Massachusetts. The Salem Witch Trials were various court hearings and prosecutions of people in Salem accused of Witchcraft. Arthur Miller wrote The Crucible, a play about the Salem Witch Trials, to send a message to Senator Joseph McCarthy, the face of the Red Scare. Even though both events took place at completely different times their connection remains profound. The Crucible and the Red Scare have various similarities and allegories that make both events connect despite the gap of time. Arthur Miller, wrote The Crucible with the intention of comparing the Red Scare to the Salem Witch Trials. One of the many similarities between the Red Scare and the Salem Witch Trials is the way both events started. Both events were started by people making false accusations. During the Red Scare people were accused of being communists. At one of his speeches in Wheeling, West Virginia, in 1950, Senator Joseph McCarthy claimed to hold in my hand a list of individuals who were both serving in government and participating in the communist party. • 12. What Is Phineas Gage Case The Curious Case of Phineas Gage On the date of September 13th, 1848, one of the greatest medical miracles in history occurred. Not only was this case amazing, it was sounded too unbelievable to most and became liken into an old folk tale. However, this was no folk tale. The story of the living mad with a rod in his head was true and it stunned the entire medical community. This is the story of Phineas Gage. Working on a railroad is a dangerous job even in modern times. Thousands of people are hurt either working on railroads or being around railroads each year (Schottenstein, 2015). Therefore, as you can imagine, injuries and deaths were happening at an even higher rate in the 1800s. Phineas Gage was a railroad worker doing a job in Vermont ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Gage did, according to Harlow, retain full possession of his reason after the accident, but his wife and other people close to him soon began to notice dramatic changes in his personality (Constandi, 2006). Brain injury can often cause this type of personality change. It has been documented in many different cases. However, post injury personality changes also meant that we dealt with bouts of intense anger, confusion, and unpredictable behavior (Cromer, 2012). These types of personality can differ, however they are usually negative. This was seen in the case of Phineas Gage. Sadly his personality and temperament wasn t the only thing that changed. Before the accident he was considered as one of the best workers on the job site (Constandi, 2006). However, after the injury, he could hardly work. (Constandi, 2006). His contractors, who regarded him as the most efficient and capable foreman in their employ previous to his injury, considered the change in his mind so marked that they could not give him his place again. He is fitful, irreverent, indulging at times in the grossest profanity (which was not previously his custom), manifesting but little deference for his fellows, impatient of restraint of advice when it conflicts with his desires, at times pertinaciously obstinent, yet capricious and vacillating, devising many plans of future operation, which are no sooner arranged than they are abandoned in turn for others appearing more feasible. In this regard, his mind was radically changed, so decidedly that his friends and acquaintances said he was no longer Gage. (Constandi, 2006). He sadly resorted to using his injury as an attraction to make money. He began traveling to do appearances so that people could see the injury and pay him for the entertainment (Constandi, 2006). To build clock speed, these three stages must be separated. This is with the goal that you don t need to hold up for each line in the processor to settle for the aftereffect of each direction. Much like a sequential construction system, each one piece of the guideline is decoded and sent through the processor in stages along the pipeline. More stages means speedier clock speed, yet then that likewise implies more issues when the code obliges a hop (if, else, switch, case), if the execution would be quicker in an alternate request, or data required for another guideline is still in the pipeline. • 15. Ancient Greek Culture And Its Impact On Modern Society The ancient Greeks, or also called the Hellenes, had a more westernized culture compared to other surrounding cultures in their time. Much of ancient Greek culture has influenced our culture today in America. They have influenced modern society through their religion, architecture, theatre, literature, society, language and sports. An important aspect of ancient Greece culture was their religion. The ancient Greeks created Greek Mythology to help convey natural occurrences and changes of nature because they were not advanced enough to explain why these things happened.1 They created many narratives and myths based on this religion and their gods. Today we see and use many aspects of their religion in modern culture. Many names for our planets and constellations come from Greek mythology names. Some cities in the United States use the names of Greek gods and goddesses. The zodiac signs used in horoscopes today are based on their mythology. Ancient Greece architecture, well known for their different types of columns, the Doric order, the Ionic order, and the Corinthian order.2 The Doric columns appeared stout, they had smooth and round capitals, and a square abacus that connected the capitals to the entablature. The Ionic columns had a small base and a double curve at the top of the stone column.3 The Corinthian columns are the most ornate out of the three types of columns. • 16. Analysis Of Annie Dillard s The Wild Weasel Step 2 Quote 1: Throughout the entire essay, Annie Dillard states that the ultimate way one should strive to act is like a wild weasel. Dillard emphasizes in order to achieve our final goal, through our actions we should act mindlessly. Ironically she promotes the characteristic of mindlessness, while our main function is to use logic to justify our acts. However, Dillard suggests that we should live by using our instincts rather than our intellect to avoid prejudice. She claims that we should thoughtlessly go about our life avoiding choices. Contrary to what Dillard believes, it is crucial to reflect on every decision one makes. Quote 2: Dillard declares that animals live to survive and they do not have the capacity to make choices. They do not have to plan for the future or worry about what they must do to succeed. The animals use their instincts to focus on their sustenance. On the other hand, humans despise the necessary requirements to live. We live with the freedom of choice, making our own decisions to develop our future. Quote 3: We humans choose the lifestyle we desire. It is our choices that create our living style. Dillard states that one should find a field in which he/she feels passionate about and pursue a career in that particular field. She urges us to find our one true calling, instead of abiding by societal standards. Step 3 We all have two choices in life: to live life joyfully or despondently. Higher percentages of carbon dioxide(CO2) in the atmosphere is increasing due to human activities, greenhouse gases(GHG) and global warming have shown to have caused negative impacts on the environment and the world we live in. There are many causes of climate change, which cannot be entirely rid of. However, by taking steps in carbon emission industries, it can ensure a reduction of CO2 and greenhouse gasses. One of the leading causes of climate change is the process of burning fossil fuels and coal. This is because of its usage in providing energy for day to day things, like heat, electricity, fuel, manufacturing, and cement. David Biello is an energy, and environment editor for the Scientific American, a popular scientific magazine with many famous scientist publications focused on informing the public states that making cement using these fuels produced nearly 46 teragrams alone in 2005(Biello). It is the third biggest leading cause in U.S. GHG emission. That is why alternative energy efficient methods need to be implemented, in the process of making cement instead of nonrenewable sources like fossil fuels. Manufacturers have incorporated cement everywhere, It s what many walks in, it s what supports buildings, and it s even in a variety of houses. • 20. Gurdjieff Sleep The most famous statement of Gurdjieff in this context is that, Man is asleep. He is born in sleep, lives in sleep and dies in sleep. Life for him is only a dream from which he never awakes. He lives in a sleep waking world moving about in the twilight of consciousness and yet imagines himself to be awake . Sleeping here stands for not being aware. It is interesting to note that Buddha is called as awakened one. It was not the case that Buddha before he attained to Nirvana was sleeping all throughout. Then why is he called as an awakened one? Because though Buddha was awake from worldly point of view, he was actually sleeping from the point of view of awareness. Consciousness does not mean wakefulness. Even animals are conscious but they are sleeping from the point of view of awareness. In fact, when we wake up from dreaming, we immediately realize how unreal that dream was. But while we are dreaming, in the midst of dreaming, the dream is totally real. In fact, we even physically respond to the dream by changes in our breathing pattern, by palpitations of the heart, by changes in sweating and by hormonal secretions. Like we wake up from the dream, in the same manner Gurdjieff talks about waking up from our waking sleep . ... • 21. Analysis Of Girl By Jamaica Kincaid Society has created in their minds the way a woman is supposed to act and the things they are allowed to do. In Jamaica Kincaid s Girl , we see a young woman being forced to live by the likeness of the society in which she dwells. Although this is not the life she wants to live, she has no other choice than to become the woman she was made to be. Throughout time the relationship between mothers and daughters have changed. Many mothers hold on to the old fashioned opinion of what a woman should be and many older women feel that a women s true role in life is to be domesticated. This idea of a woman s place in the home is being reinforced throughout Kincaid s short story. The mother in the story is telling her young daughter the ways things should be done. Wash the white clothes on Monday and put them on the stone heap; wash the colored clothes on Tuesday and put them on the clothesline to dry. She further goes on to describe other household chores and how they should be correctly done. This is how you sweep a corner. She tells her daughter how to set a table for different meals, how to cook things, and even how to pick out bread. Unfortunately, though, the story doesn t tell a woman how to have a successful career, to go to college, or how to work outside of the home. In those days women were expected to stay at home while their husband s go out to work and make all the money. Even if they tried, they were not allowed to go outside the way society made them to be and this mother is trying to raise her young daughter the same way she was raised which is to be a house wife. Even though the girl says nothing in the story, she is building resentment towards her mother because she feels that she should be allowed to make her own decision on whether to be domesticated. Throughout the story never did the mother once stop to get her daughter s input on the issues, she just simply tells her daughter that she has no other choice but to be domesticated and there is no way of changing it. Because of this, many people do not accept the fact that mental illness is a genuine struggle that many people face on a daily basis and, as a result, most do not understand how widespread it is, particularly for adolescents. According to recent research, 10 15% of teenagers have experienced some symptoms of depression, roughly 20% percent of teens will experience depression before they reach adulthood, and adolescents who suffer from depression are twelve times more likely to attempt suicide. . One health behavior thatis extremely important is receiving medical and psychological treatment for mental illness. However, because mental health is still a taboo issue within many communities, there are many risk and protective factors that need to be taken into consideration. Evaluating these using the five levels of the social ecological model individual, interpersonal, organizational, community, and public policy explains how individuals are affected by themselves, their relationships, their community, and their society as a whole. The first level of this model is the individual. One of the largest risk factors of individuals seeking treatment for mental illness is the difficulty of self identification. It s a team effort, requiring a lot of physical exertion, and it gives a sense of competition. Marching band also teaches some hierarchy, which is a useful thing to know in the workforce. Another important aspect of band is that it s a really good experience. It may be stressful at times, but it is definitely worth it. Having been in band for seven years, I can confirm all of this. Because I have ADHD and Asperger Syndrome, I find it very hard to speak out and socialize. But since I was in marching band in high school, I found that I was more social. While this assignment differs from service learning, the civic learning that takes place during the semester leads to the development of knowledge, skills, and community contacts that are necessary for active citizenship. As described throughout this paper, despite the passive sounding title of courtroom observation, this assignment requires significant interaction and engagement with court personnel to be completed successfully. Since my father is a sheriff s deputy, it was easy for me to gain clearance to sit in the jury s box and to watch criminal plea charges. The process I observed was startling because I did not imagine that, in one morning, a single courtroom could go through almost five pages of client sentences (approximately forty clients). In addition, I gained a better understanding of how courts operate without the presence of a jury. Still, I was confused; What is the purpose of the judicial center? Who else is involved? For instance, sodium chloride and sodium oxide should be and are NaCl and Na2O respectively. Aluminum chloride and aluminum oxide should be and are AlCl3 and Al2O3. When there are multiple oxidation states of a metal, more than one compound is possible. For instance, copper and oxygen form Cu2O and CuO and more information are needed to distinguish between the two. When naming a copper oxide, it is very important that the name distinguish between the two possibilities [copper(I) oxide or cuprous oxide and copper(II) oxide or cupric oxide]. Care must be exercised as chemistry often contains wonderful surprises. Suppose the percent by mass experiment for an iron oxide results in 72.36% Fe by mass and 27.64% O by mass. Following the procedure above, results in a molar ratio of 1.296:1.727. Division by the lowest number, results in a mole ratio of 1:1.33. For cases like this, the next step is to multiply by the lowest whole number that converts each of the subscripts to a whole number. Thus the formula is Fe3O4. As iron has two oxidation states (+2, +3), the expected formula is either FeO of Fe2O3. Anytime a result that is inconsistent with expectations is obtained, the first and immediate step should be to recheck all the data and calculations. In this case, the results are real and Fe3O4 is a known compound often called magnetite. Understanding the oxidation state of iron in this compound ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. Why Zoos Should Not Be Used By the basic definition, something is rare when it either does not occur often or it is not found in large numbers which adds to its interest and value. The rarity of an object can be argued by different groups of people. This causes debates about what should be considered rare and to what degree of rarity an object is. If said object is classified as rare, what should be done with that object or idea and how, if at all, should it be preserved. In this essay, I am going to question the idea of rarity and show why rarity should not be used as a way to regulate environments. One view of rarity comes from the realists; they believe ... an object is unique within a purview: given a certain boundary, there exists no other object like it. This idea makes defining something as rare only specific to the boundary set. So, if something is rare in America it may not be as rare, if rare at all, in Europe. This could have complications when considering different aspects of nature and how to define those aspects as rare. For example, to Americans the Niagara Falls is a rare phenomenon and should be maintained due to their rarity, however in other parts of the world there are falls just as good, if not better than the Niagara Falls. An example of this would be the Victoria Falls in Africa; this is also a rare phenomenon but is it equally as rare as the Niagara Falls? When trying to regulate environments, rarity always comes into play as it pertains to preservation. The rarer something ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Temptations of greater success loom malevolently making moral corruption inevitable for some. Often times, one does not see the darkness he has stirred up until the time of his death approaches. As presented in Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness, the inclusion of lines foreboding death and an actual death scene demonstrate how human goodness can be engulfed by the billowing swells of darkness present in everyone.
