Kalibrr is a startup that provides an online talent assessment platform. They launched their minimum viable product (MVP) on AWS in March 2013, seeing user growth from 0 to 25,000 in two months. AWS allowed Kalibrr to scale easily and provided reliability with no downtime. Kalibrr uses EC2 instances to host their web servers, SES for email, S3 for content storage, ELB for load balancing, and Route 53 for DNS management. AWS's scalability, ease of use, and reliability helped Kalibrr launch their MVP successfully and support further growth.

Tessler explains the Lambda architecture approach of using immutable logs, batch/speed/serving layers, and demonstrates a sample data flow from collection in Kinesis Firehose to processing in EMR/Spark and Hive, and analysis in Redshift and QuickSight. An ironSource case study details their Hypergrowth data platform managing billions of daily events on AWS.
Serverless applications allow developers to focus on writing code without worrying about managing infrastructure. With serverless, there is zero administration, no provisioning is needed, and applications can scale seamlessly. Some key benefits of the serverless approach are that it allows for rapid innovation and focusing on business value. Serverless uses building blocks like AWS API Gateway and AWS Lambda. API Gateway handles authorization and scaling for APIs, while Lambda allows code to be run in a serverless environment and scales automatically based on usage.
EC2 is Amazon's Elastic Compute Cloud that provides secure and scalable virtual computing resources. It offers virtual machines known as instances that customers can launch, manage, and terminate as needed. EC2 provides high performance, reliability and scalability by distributing instances across multiple regions and availability zones. Customers pay for instances based on factors like the instance type, region, operating system and amount of time the instances are running. EC2 integrates with other AWS services and provides features like automatic scaling of resources based on demand.
