Beyond the Advance Presentation for By the Book 9John Rodzvilla
In June 2020, L.L. McKinney, a Black author of young adult novels, began the #publishingpaidme hashtag to create a discussion on how the publishing industry treats Black authors: “what they’re paid. What the marketing is. How the books are treated. How one Black book not reaching its parameters casts a shadow on all Black books and all Black authors, and that’s not the same for our white counterparts.” (Grady 2020) McKinney’s call resulted in an online discussion across 65,000 tweets between authors of all races and the creation of a Google spreadsheet that collected information on over 2,000 titles.
While the conversation was originally meant to discuss the ethical value of book publishing, it became an economic assessment by authors of how publishers treated authors of color and women authors without a full analysis of the data collected. This paper would present the data collected from relevant tweets and the Google database to show not only the range of advances among participating authors split out by their race, gender, sexual orientation and the genre of their work, but also the publishers’ treatment of their titles in terms of deal announcements and pre-pub attention in industry publications. The paper is based on a multi-year project of cleaning and evaluating the collected data to assess what it reveals about the habits and strategies of American publishers in acquiring and promoting titles from a diverse group of authors across the literary, non-fiction, children’s, mystery, romance, and SFF genres.

The Jewish Trinity : Sabbath,Shekinah and Sanctuary 4.pdfJackieSparrow3
we may assume that God created the cosmos to be his great temple, in which he rested after his creative work. Nevertheless, his special revelatory presence did not fill the entire earth yet, since it was his intention that his human vice-regent, whom he installed in the garden sanctuary, would extend worldwide the boundaries of that sanctuary and of God’s presence. Adam, of course, disobeyed this mandate, so that humanity no longer enjoyed God’s presence in the little localized garden. Consequently, the entire earth became infected with sin and idolatry in a way it had not been previously before the fall, while yet in its still imperfect newly created state. Therefore, the various expressions about God being unable to inhabit earthly structures are best understood, at least in part, by realizing that the old order and sanctuary have been tainted with sin and must be cleansed and recreated before God’s Shekinah presence, formerly limited to heaven and the holy of holies, can dwell universally throughout creation

2. The, The Salem Witch Trials And The Civil Rights Movement...
It is often affirmed that as the most dominant species on planet earth, human beings essentially rule
the way in which our world has evolved; we have cognitive abilities that allow us to explore a
multitude of complex variables, utilize logic, formulate a wide range of choices, and act out our
decisions. However, even as highly logical creatures, humans have the propensity to be influenced by
the choices of others or information presented to them, form groups of like minded individuals, and
participate in behaviors they would likely not have undertaken on their own. This particular behavior
has been coined the mob mentality and under it, people appear to become mindless automatons that
lack any ability to act on their own thoughts. While there are perfect examples of mob mentalities
doing good, such as the pivotal march on Washington during the Civil rights movement of the 1960 s,
to something as simple as the yearly gathering of like minded individuals at the Burning Man Festival,
there are far more insidious examples such as the Holocaust, the Salem Witch trials, and Bacon s
Rebellion. In the realm of human behavior, each of these events is representational of what
psychology defines as a mob or herd mentality and this group behavior has been an intrinsic quality of
human civilizations throughout history. As such, this writer believes that Bacon s Rebellion is a prime
example of the negative implications mob mentalities are capable of generating. However the

3. The Silmarillion Chapter Summary
Thus Douglas Charles Kane sets forth the inspiration for his meticulous review of the origin of the text
Christopher Tolkien presented in 1977 as The Silmarillion. I confess that I myself belonged to the
second group, until the publication of The History of Middle earth volumes revealed the extent of the
evolution of the Legendarium. Christopher has presented that evolution roughly in a chronological
format, with The Book of Lost Tales containing Tolkien s earliest writings and The War of the Jewels
the latest concerning the tales of The Silmarillion. Anyone interested in following the development of
a single tale, therefore, must work through portions of multiple volumes. Kane, who calls The
Silmarillion arguably his most important work (23), set out to show how Christopher, with the
assistant of Guy Gavriel Kay, put together what has become the settled text of The Silmarillion. Kane
proceeds through The Silmarillion chapter by chapter, showing the source within The History of
Middle earth for each paragraph. [Additionally, he referred rarely to Unfinished Tales, The Children of
Húrin, and, in at least one instance, Tolkien s letters (25).] Each chapter of Kane s book contains a
table detailing his findings. For example, for Chapter 13 Of the Return of the Noldor, paragraph 1 was
taken from the later Quenya paragraph 88, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

4. Socrates And Plato s Views On The Society
Socrates had different views from the Athenians. He believed that democracy wouldn t work in their
society, nor in any society. He doesn t believe that the people are capable of governing themselves.
Socrates and Plato believed that the common man was too stupid, to say the least, to govern
him/herself and to have a say in society. Socrates was in pursuit or truth his entire life. In his eyes,
how could he let someone have the capabilities to make their own decisions with the potential for an
error to occur. He was for a philosopher kings because they could at least imagine what absolute truth
looked like and hopefully bring it to the people. It s not that Socrates thought everyone was idiotic, he
just didn t want anything to stop him on his pursuit of finding truth. He already was upset enough that
the world was constanly changing. He didn t want another human error to change his perception and
rationality to one thing that he almost found the truth in. He favored a shepherd becasue that person
was there to watch over and protect the sheep. He could make decisions for the sheep and guide the
sheep to stay out of trouble, find food and shelter, and to spend their days meandering through the
meadows. This is a great analogy, but then again the shepherd why would the shepherd being tending
to the flock without some sort of compensation in it for him. Socrated believed that by inserting the
king where the shepherd was and the people where the sheep were, he would

horrors of H.H Holmes, we would not have as strong of a law enforcement as we do today. H.H
Holmes helped open a new world of research to psychologists and without him, psychologists would
not have as much knowledge of the impacts of poor mental health as they do today. Because of H.H
Holmes, the government would not know how to punish crimes of such high degree, or how to
contribute certain factors such as mental illness for such crimes. H.H Holmes helped ... Show more

He grew up secluded with his two brothers, Henry and Arthur, and his sister Ellen. He also grew up
with his parents who were devout Methodists. A common factor about serial killers is that they usually
grew up in a strictly religious household. His home life was hard because of his mentally and
physically abusive parents, especially his father. Researchers have found out that his father used
tactics such as prolonged isolation and even food deprivation. Furthermore, his father reportedly held
kerosene soaked rags over Holmes and the other children s mouths to quiet them when they cried.
(Concordia University). A child s relationship with their parents is crucial in their development.
Psychologists have researched this specific topic for years and drew the conclusion that, Without the
safety net of a secure attachment relationship, children grow up to become adults who struggle with
feelings of low self worth and challenges with emotional regulation. They also have an increased risk
of developing depression and anxiety. (How Childhood Trauma). Because of his parents neglecting,
his idea of relationships was skewed, and he became isolated. He had no positive relationship to

traumatized by the abuse that it ultimately led to his inability to form meaningful relationships.
(Concordia University). He was bullied at school for being smarter than the rest of the class and
having no friends. His most notable bullying incident was when Holmes, blindsided by classmates,
was forced into a doctor s office, where the hands of a skeleton were forcibly placed over his face.
(Concordia University). Holmes had a phobia of doctors and anatomy as a whole, and the event was
so traumatic to him that his fear reversed itself and turned into an extreme interest, something that is
not uncommon between trauma victims. The

6. A Freudian Analysis Of Leo s Psychodynamic Approach
Through a Freudian analysis of Leo, the main character in the film Léolo, it becomes evident that his
psyche did not develop suitably, thereby demolishing his conscious mind. Freud s theory of
psychosexual development states that tension in humans is caused by the accumulation of libido
sexual energy and that pleasure is derived from the release of this energy. It is composed of 5 stages:
the oral stage, the anal stage, the phallic stage, the latent stage, and the genital stage. Libido is focused
differently in each stage of psychosexual development, therefore proper development in each stage of
psychosexual growth is imperative to the constitution of the psyche the human mind. Freud s most
wildly acknowledged theory is that the human ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The pleasure principle entails one s natural and rudimentary inclination towards gratification, and
conversely, one s aversion to suffering. This need must be accomplished with whatever means
necessary: social acceptability, morals and deep thought are not to be considered. Leo cannot control
his bowel movements from a young age, therefore he is unable to pass the anal stage of psychosexual
development the period between the ages of one to three years old in which one experiences pleasure
from controlling bowel movements. In a scene where he can urinate off of his balcony, he exclaims,
Léolo! Léolo Lozone! My name is Léolo! (7:55) which indicates that he can only satisfy himself when
he indulges in his fantasies. His incompetence in the anal stage symbolizes his inability to satisfy his
sexual desires, which impedes the development of his psyche even further. Accordingly, Leo has an
abundance of cathexis a proliferation of libido energy in tangible things in his neighbour, Bianca. She
is an Italian woman, and is therefore the perfect personification of his fantasy: Bianca my love. My
beautiful love. My only love. My Italy, (46:55). Though Leo s anal stage is not properly developed, he
continues on to the phallic stage, and continues to gratify his desires in the strange fashion that is
quintessential of

7. A Geocentric Perspective On Global Management
When it comes to global management, a manager must be educated on the country in which he or she
is doing business with. Global managers are expected to effectively interact with employees, supplier
s customers or partners from foreign countries in order to reach their organization s goals. In addition
they must be well cultured and adaptable, lack of these skills can be detrimental to a business success
and can lessen opportunities for that company. For example, my Kinicki and Williams (2013) talk
about three different style of management, which are geocentric, ethnocentric, and polycentric. The
textbook confirmed that being a geocentric is most effective, out of the three. A geocentric manager
acknowledges that there are similarities and differences between their native culture and the one which
they are in now. Furthermore, instead of using the method which is familiar to them, a geocentric
creates a balance between how things are done in that particular country and how it is done at their
homeland. Overall the key to dealing with cultural differences is being well informed of the various
customs and the culture, being able to adapt to the environment, and also learning the differences and
similarities between another country and home. (Kinicki Adams, 2013, p.105)

8. Fight Club Consumerism Analysis
David Fincher s Fight Club is praised by fans and critics alike as one of the most impactful
representation of society in film. The film follows Jack, the narrator and main character, as he teams
up with a newfound acquaintance named Tyler Durden to form an underground fight club for men
who are bored of their mundane lives(Fincher 1999). As Durden becomes more of a dominant
personality, Fight Club evolves to Project Mayhem, multi celled secret society of oppressed gray
collar workers whose purpose is to battle the modern culture of consumerism(Fincher 1999). The
movie is often discussed by people due to its representation of the modern man and consumeristic
society. In Fight Club, the modern man is described as a white collar slave who ... Show more content

This causes a sense of powerlessness and a lack of sense of accomplishments as the workers are
fulfilling goals of others and not for themselves. The first rule of Fight Club is: you do not speak about
Fight Club. The second rule of Fight Club is: you do not speak about Fight Club! (Fincher 1999). This
rule is used as unity for the group of men involved to create their own counterculture. Counterculture
is defined cultural patterns that strongly oppose those widely accepted within a
society(Macionis,2002:49). As Fight Club progresses and the relationships of the men grows, the
group evolves to a Project Mayhem, a rebellious group to fight consumeristic culture through
terroristic actions, such as public bombing(Fincher 1999). The group they created helps these men
cope with the role strain they have experience as grey collar workers. Through Violence, both with fist
and weapons, The people in project Mayhem causes chaos in white collar society. This common
mission finally gives the members the meaning in their lives they craved so much. We are all part of
the same compost heap, Tyler Durden announces over the loudspeaker to his fellow project mayhem
members(Fincher 1999). This statement by Durden represents the foundation of an In group We are all

9. Critical Review of Undaunted Courage Essay
Critical Review of Undaunted Courage
Stephen Ambrose s Undaunted Courage is a remarkable piece of nonfiction literature. His work is so
thorough that one wonders how he has time to do much more. Yet he has created time in his life to go
west and go camping and hiking and canoeing in the summers with his family. Which possibly shows
that anything can be raw material to the open mind, for it was on those trips that he developed a great
fascination with the Lewis and Clark expedition that explored the West when the country was twenty
five years old. Ambrose creates a precise and true story of the expedition in witch most readers would
be enthralled. His style is smooth, readable and enjoyable, unlike many historical nonfiction of the
day. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From November 1803 to September 1806, it was nearly three years of rough, tough work over land
that no American had ever seen before. The men were poorly prepared from the start. They were
frequently ill fed and dressed. The soldiers worked for pay of about $5 per month and a land grant of
320 acres.
They were led well though. The author holds Meriwether Lewis in high esteem. Jefferson took
Meriwether under his wing and into his President s House to be his secretary. Their father son
relationship became a deep friendship, and Jefferson chose Lewis to head the expedition. Lewis chose
an associate, William Clark, to join him in command. Though Clark s official Army rank was
lieutenant, theirs was a true co captaincy. Most people s perception of early builders of America is
with a purity of reason and purpose, while, Ambrose shows that they are just as greedy then as they
are now. Also in the way of the book Ambrose wipes out the belief that Indians were innocent
harmless humans. They were filthy, dishonest, and belligerent, and awful to their women, not totally
unlike the mass of mankind.
In the end, not many of the goals were achieved. There was no all water route to the pacific. Nearly all
of Lewis and Clark s findings and accomplishments went unaccredited to them because of Lewis s
failure to print his journals, which Ambrose calls a treasure of American literature . And three years
after their return, Lewis committed suicide. Nonetheless, at its

Biopure Case Intro
This case is on Biopure Corporation, a privately owned biopharmaceutical firm, competing in
emerging field of blood substitutes with two new products: Hemopure for the human market and
Oxyglobin for the animal market. The United States Food and Drug Administration approved
Oxyglobin on February 5, 1998. The approval of Hemopure is not expected until late 1999 or early
2000. The company must decide whether to release Oxyglobin immediately or to wait until Hemopure
has established itself in the marketplace. The key protagonist is Carl Rausch, the president and CEO
of Biopure. When proposing actions or solutions, Carl will need to convince the executives of the
company, including Dr. Ted Jacobs and Andrew (Andy) Write. Ted, the vice president for Human

properties and appearance. Another issue is that Biopure does not have experience releasing new

being discussed are his poem Life Cycle which describes the life of being like an AFL player; the

15. Pathos In Bowling For Columbine
Bowling for Columbine is a documentary directed by American filmmaker and activist, Michael
Moore. The political documentary focuses on the 1999 school shootings that occurred in Columbine,
Colorado, and Flint, Michigan and the correlation of guns to the high homicide rates in America.
Moore argues that the number one problem the United States faces is gun control. Moore effectively
uses ethos, pathos, and logos appeals to present an unbiased and informational view of the issue of
gun violence in America. He also uses the fallacious argumentative strategy, ad hominem. Moore does
not put his own direct bias into the film, he instead shows both sides of the argument to allow the
viewer to decide for themselves which side they are on.
In the film, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His argument is stronger if the audience has an emotional connection to the events involving gun
violence. Along with statistics and facts, Moore shows sounds and images that elicits sympathy in an
attempt to persuade them to his cause. The most effective example of this is when he shows camera
footage from the Columbine Shooting with the 911 call from the scene in the background. He also
shows testimony from concerned citizens from several shooting incidents, such as the Buell
Elementary School where a first grader killed another with a gun. The graphic images shown are heart
wrenching and evokes empathy from the viewers.
To contrast his emotional appeals, Moore uses logos strategically in this film. Throughout the entire
documentary, Moore travels around and interviews people about their opinions on guns. He also asks
if they believe that everyone should have access to guns and why America is one the most dangerous
countries in the world when it comes to gun violence. The whole film consists of Moore s dialogue
with common Americans, which allows the viewers to hear what other people think, not just

16. Effects Of Sea Ice On Polar Bears
Introduction Due to the effects of greenhouse gases, the sea ice that polar bears rely on for foraging
and shelter is declining rapidly. Some populations of polar bears are forced to depend on their stored
fat for energy during summer due to melting of the sea ice, which prevents them from hunting more
efficiently. Being forced to rely on stored fat leads to a decline in energy intake, which leads to a
decline in body mass. A decline in body mass correlates with slower reproductive rates and decreasing
survival rates, which effects the growth and genetic diversity of the population. The increased amount
of open water in between sea ice causes the polar bears to swim for greater lengths and therefore
makes it more difficult for female polar bears to find proper dens for reproducing and protecting their
offspring (Derocher and Stirling, 2012). The rate at which the sea ice declines is projected to
accelerate over time (Derocher and Stirling, 2012), which means we will soon reach a year when
severe malnutrition will lead to an irreversible decrease of polar bear populations (Aars et ... Show

Unfortunately, many human bear interactions lead to death of the polar bear, which can only lead to
more negative effects on their, already declining, populations (Aars et al., 2013). All of these factors
leading to high mortality rates and low reproduction rates which are causing a severe lack in genetic
diversity of polar bears due to the extremely limited gene pool (Derocher and Stirling, 2012).
Conclusion In conclusion, the melting of the sea ice leads to a lack of food availability, increased
swimming time, and dysfunctional maternal dens, which causes loss of body mass, declined
reproductive fitness, increased human bear interaction, lack of genetic diversity, and ultimately higher
mortality

In the mid to late 1800s, a great moral reform movement swept the nation of America. Men, Women,

standing up, and making their voices heard. A patriots History says, There were transformations of
attitudes about social relationships, health, prisons, education, and the status of women and African
American slaves.... [This] grew into a substantial Jacksonian reform movement. This moral reform
movement was driven by three main beliefs, or Isms. These were Communal ism, Feminism, and

This rejection of traditionally held values in regard to women, led to the very next Ism, Feminism.
Feminism was a Utopians dream because it advocated greatly expanded roles for women. By the time
of the precedent setting New York State court case Mercein v. People in 1842, women had gained
many other rights. In Mercein vs. People a woman was awarded custody of children for the first time
in history. Up till this point women had gained property rights within marriage in several Ohio and
Mississippi Valley states, and the trend was spreading, fast, and divorce became slightly more
prevalent, with the legal grounds increased. With the growth of the Industrial Revolution, women were
given work opportunities, and with a rising demand for teachers more and more women were
becoming educated in institutions. Nursing jobs also became popular. In1849, Elizabeth Blackwell
received her M.D. degree from the Medical Institution of Geneva, N.Y., becoming the first woman in
the U.S. with a medical degree. All these causes lead women, inevitably, towards feminism, a socio
religious and socio political philosophy born at the end of the Age of Jackson. Feminism was affecting
moral reform, and was right there at the heart. These women activists pushed and shoved till they got
their way. The final force was the Declaration of Sentiments at Seneca Falls, New York on 1848.

18. Protein Based Bioflocculants, Tizazu Mekonnen
Protein based bioflocculants, Tizazu Mekonnen
1. Mechanismof flocculation
Colloidal particles in wastewater suspension normally carry an overall negative charge on their
surface that led to electrostatic repulsion. This electrostatic repulsionresult is the stabilization of the
suspension as it prohibits the particles to come together and form agglomerate. Flocculants are thus
added to change the surface property of such particles and destabilize the suspension so as to facilitate
the separation of the solids (Tripathy and Ranjan De 2006). Protein based flocculantsdevelopment for
wastewater treatment is mainly built on theirpolyampholite nature associated with the functional
groups of the composing amino acids. Most studies in the literature base their protein flocculation
mechanisms(Seki et al. 2010, Piazza and Garcia 2013) on theories developed for synthetic polymeric
flocculants, such as polyacrylamide. Flocculation mechanisms that could be relevant for protein based
flocculants include: (1) Coagulation, (2) Electrostatic patch flocculation and (3) Polymer
bridging(Gregory 1973, Sharma et al. 2006, Hjorth and Jorgensen 2012).
Coagulation is the process in which colloidal particles and other fine suspensions are destabilized or
neutralized to agglomerate induced by addition of inorganic chemicals(Tripathy and Ranjan De 2006).
Electrostatic patch mechanism is adsorption of polymers onto local sites of a particle, causing patches
of local charge reversal resulting in

19. What Are The 4 Laws Of Thermodynamics
The four fundamental laws of thermodynamics are used to define how physical quantities behave
under various circumstances, these include energy, entropy, and temperature. The First Law of
Thermodynamics states that energy in the universe is always conserved, therefore it cannot be created
or destroyed, and it can only be transformed from one form to another. The second law of
thermodynamics states that entropy of isolated systems always increases, this means that in all
processes of energy exchange, if no energy is introduced to or leaves a system, the sum of potential
energy will be less than initial condition. The third law of thermodynamics states that the entropy of a
system is maintained as the temperature decreases to absolute zero. The fourth law of thermodynamics
defines temperature equilibrium between systems.
The first law of thermodynamics defines that energy can be transformed but not destroyed. It s used to
define the internal energy contained in a system. It s formulated by pointing out the change in internal
energy in system minus work and heat that add and subtract energy in the system. Moreover, the
second law helps to clarify different ways in which motors change heat into mechanical work, for
example in steam turbines and car engines. The third law, also referred to as Nernst law, provides a
basis for calculating absolute entropy value of substances and an analysis of phase and chemical
equilibrium.

Is there a significant difference in height of Bracken (Pteridium aquilinum) from a light area and a

Abstract: This investigation was designed to compare the height of Pteridium aquilinum in a light area
and a dark area of Rushy Plains, Epping Forest and to establish if light intensity does have an effect on
the growth of Pteridium aquilinum, commonly known as Bracken. From my research it was clear that
the height of Bracken is affected by abiotic factors, other than light intensity, such as: soil moisture,
soil temperature, air temperature and soil pH so I had to control these factors. I carried out preliminary
experiments to find a suitable site where all these factors where constant. For my actual investigation I

The diagram above shows the two stages of photosynthesis. As you can see, light is a key component
as it start the light dependent reactions which produces ATP and NADPH, which is needed in the light
independent reactions to make glucose. So without light, there is no ATP and NADPH produced and
thus no glucose produced, therefore the food chain cannot be started. Glucose is also needed to make
DNA and hormones for plant growth, it is also require during plant respiration. So it can be
established the light is vital for plant growth and it affects the height of plants indefinitely.
Photoperiodism:
Photoperiodism is the effect of the relative lengths of light and dark periods on plant growth. This
occurs when photoreceptor proteins e.g phytochromes are produced by plants in response to light
intensity or the absence of light. This in effect affects the height of plants. [5]
Phototropism:
Phototropism is the growth of a plant in the direction of its light source. Phototropism occurs due to a
hormone called auxin which is produced at shoot tips. Auxin influences cell division, if there is light
on one side then the dark side will receive more auxin and therefore more cell division will occur on
that side, which will force the plant to bend towards the light therefore affecting the height of the

Bill Clinton wrote the Oklahoma Bombing Memorial Address in order to comfort the families who
lost a loved one the night of the bombing. Anna Quindlen wrote The Quilt of a Country in order to
send a message to the readers about how they unite specifically. She is saying that how they unite is
similar to a quilt.Even though the Oklahoma Bombing Memorial Address, by Bill Clinton, and A Quilt
of a Country, by Anna Quindlen, both emphasize the importance of uniting in time of tragedy, they
differ in that Clinton s address compels the audience to move on from tragedy while Quindlen s essay
appears to stress ironically the importance of embracing tragedy.
The Quilt of a country by Anna Quindlen and Oklahoma Bombing by Bill Clinton talked about how
they all should unite as a nation. Bill Clinton uses pathos to show sympathy to all those who lost their
lives all though the audience did not lose a loved one they must show them that they are going to help
them get through life even when an accident like the bombing happens. This terrible sin took the lives
of our American family, innocent children in that building, only because their parents were trying to

many there who served the rest of us. He uses that quote in order to make the audience feel sadness

When a customer buys a bottle of Champagne she buys a bottle of good quality wine. She also pays
for the fact that the wine is exclusive, it is from the region of Champagne and that is something that
differentiates it from other sparkling wine. This is something the customer experiences as added value
to the product. However, this value does not count as much when the product becomes available to a
bigger number of customers. It looses its exclusiveness. When it comes to sparkling wine that is not
from Champagne the Spanish Cava and the Italian Prosecco have long been two popular varieties.
Today, in the UK, there is also a growing interest in sparkling wine from the United Kingdom

24. Abortion Is The Choice Of The Woman Holding The Fetus Essay
Abortion is a subject that sparks great debate either for or against. With the country that we live in
today, its moral standards are ever changing and its decisions are scrutinized. Abortions are becoming
justified and should be the choice of the woman holding the fetus. This choice should be supported
because government should not be involved in the choice of its individual people. Religion, and
science will always cause friction when educating people on how a human life is or should be treated.
Abortion is more than educating people, it has psychological factors, and it has short term, and long
term effects. The financial matters and who bears the overall long term effect, society or the individual
needs to be addressed. The Supreme Court of the United States has been involved in highly publicized
cases of abortion; Rowe v Wade, Gonzales v. Carnhart, Ayotte v. Planned Parenthood of New England,
are to name a few. The Supreme Court is the highest form of government in the United States to
decide these matters and should throw them back down the state where each own can establish its
guidelines to govern these laws and regulations. Sexual Education in the school system is designed to
teach the youth about sexually transmitted diseases, and the risk of what can happen if a life is brought
into this world unplanned. It is at this point where abortion should be discussed and debated so that the

When conducting a primary survey of a patient an ACP would follow the basic structure of danger,

Baz Luhrmann essay topic 1 by Hayley Bue
Baz Luhrmann s use of cinematic language becomes more advanced through each film as technology
develops and the audience becomes more modern, demanding better produced films. His story telling
techniques become more and more complex to enable the audience to feel as if they are participating
in the film. His first two films (Strictly Ballroom and Romeo and Juliet) are definitely not naturalistic
as everything about the films is overdone. I feel however that The Great Gatsby is more natural in
terms of theatrical elements such as costumes, characters and providing a film instead of a play.

This could be because it is not part of the red curtain trilogy. There is the over exaggeration of parties,
cars and alcohol but in this day and age, it is normal for us to experience that. Gatsby may be
unnatural in his love for Daisy and his made up world but there are people like that in real life. The
camera movements and shots are smoother and blend into the film rather than stand out. For instance
the there is a low angle that zooms into Gatsby standing proud behind the window, not just a low
angle shot that suddenly cuts to another shot like in Strictly ballroom. The drama in the movie was
also dulled down, the gunshot to Gatsby s back wasn t overly exaggerated and Gatsby s fight with
Tom was so violent.
In conclusion, Baz Luhrmann advances most of his cinematic language through each movie. He
provides more complex story telling techniques to incorporate the audience. His first two films are
highly theatrical while he toned down his theatrics in The Great Gatsby making it a more natural
theme. Baz Luhrmann has evolved in his directing from Strictly Ballroom to Romeo and Juliet to The

The United States and France are two countries with similar ways of electing the lower house of

first past the post system used in the United States is more efficient, cost effective, and
comprehendible to the average person. The United States of America elects the lower house of
government using simple majority. This system can also be described as a plurality, or first past the

35. The Past, Present and Future of Social Security Essays
Social Security A Historical View Social security, the federal retirement system, is one of the most
popular government programs in United State?s history. Today, Social Security benefits are the
backbone of the nation s retirement income system. The long road to the successful development of
social security began in 1935. Before 1935, very few workers received job pensions. Those workers
that were covered never received benefits because they were not guaranteed. Franklin D. Roosevelt
signed the original Social Security Act. It comprised of two services: a Social Security retirement
benefit that applied only to workers, and a welfare program for the elderly called Old Age Assistance.

By 1960, seventy eight percent of workers were insured. Nearly universal coverage was reached in
1965. In 1956 disability insurance was added. Women were, also, allowed to retire at 62 with benefits
equal to 80 percent of what they would have received at age 65. Men were offered a similar early
retirement benefit program in 1961. By the mid 1960?s, Social Security had demonstrated success by
achieving its primary goal of reducing the percentage of elderly living in poverty. New legislation that
included Medicare and Medicaid added to the success of Social Security by increasing the tax base for
Social Security and raising benefits by 7 percent, by allowing retirement recipients to work without
losing benefits, and by amplifying the definition of disability. In 1969 benefits were raised by 15
percent. In 1972 they were raised by 20 percent. They were, also, indexed to increase at the rate of
inflation. In 1972 the United States suffered an economic downturn. Legislators worked on ensuring
that the Social Security program pay all the benefits that had been promised. In 1974 SSI was added as
a welfare program, instead of expanding Social Security. The tax rate and the amount of payroll
subject to the payroll tax were increased without increasing benefits. In 1983 President Reagan tried to
drastically cut retirement and disability

37. The Housing Market Crash
Literature Review:
2007, that was the year that everyone knew the world was about to change. Many analysts studying
the markets knew that this day would come to surface. Among the citizens, few actually knew the
problems the housing market was having while many of them just noticed that they were now able to
purchase their dream home. Many Americans that knew that background however, were not aware of
what exactly sparked this issue, nor what was in store for them (Natl. GPO .2) At the time, many
citizens were not aware of what was going on in the housing market. The financial crisis would impact
several people for many years to come (Yanis.6). While many researchers may argue that large
financial issues in the United States have already ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While this action may be a short term cost to a long term solution, the generation paying the price will
be Generation Y and the Millennial. One major factor that comes with job market regulation is the
hike of minimum wage in order to meet the rising costs of every day goods. One of the only things
that economists agree on is that minimum wage kills jobs (Herlot, 783). This is a current issue that is
playing out in the United States economy today. The Bush and the Obama Administration factors on
the job market (Sanchez, Kopp, Sanzari, 243) has already had a major role in job losses throughout the
United States. There is an increasing gap in the job market between citizens with minimal education
needing minimum wage increases in order to obtain basic needs and educated individuals who can t
seem to find a job. With the current financial situation in mind, the amount post grad individuals with
significant amount of dept. is a problem. With the growth rate of the country s debt., unemployment
may see a significant increase in the next ten years (Reich, 174). Debt is currently increasing not only
due to the regulations of the job market, but also with the policies that currently exist. Recent policies
such as Medicare for all, and School Vouchers according to family income (Reich, 06), are costing the
government millions with
