In the 1920s and 1930s intellectuals and statesmen in Latin America began to adopt ideologies of race
mixture in an effort to advance nation building projects based on notions of inclusion and racial
equality. These notions which where said to promote racial inclusivity included mestizaje. The
ideology of mestizaje often times enabled exclusion through racial terms and marginalization. In order
to grasp how such an ideology has created a paradoxical and contradictory outcome politically,
economically, and socially for black communities in Latin America one must draw from real world
examples. Two examples of Latin American countries that have experienced marginalization of their
black communities are Columbia and Mexico. Before one can enter a conversation on the process
through which black communities are marginalized in Latin America it is essential to define a few
terms. First one must define what Latin America encompasses. Latin America s dictionary definition is

The Importance Of The French-English Relations In Canada
English and French Canadians have had one of the most complicated and intriguing relationships
throughout all of history. Even though they share the prosperous country of Canada, they could not be
more divided as a nation. Factors such as language, culture and political beliefs have separated these
two vast majority of Canadians for a very long time. Throughout the last century, French English
relations have slightly improved over time, yet there is still an unstable peace between the two
peoples. This will be clearly demonstrated throughout this essay, which will explore three critical time
periods that changed French English relations in Canada. Between the years 1914 and 1929, relations

I have found the book The Bhagavad Gita to be very appealing. I have never been exposed to the
Indian culture but while reading this book it seems that they have similar beliefs than we do, just
quoted differently. Detachment was one of their practices I found interesting. Reasons to be detached
is greatly explained in this quote, Those who are compulsively attached to the results of action cannot
really enjoy what they do; they get downcast when things do not work out and cling more desperately
when they do (55). This quote is simply saying that we as a whole are not focused on what we should
be doing, we only focus on what we are doing to be perfect. If we act without worrying we may even
be able to enjoy ourselves instead. Even though detachment is practiced in the Indian culture,
everyone should practice it. In the religion I participate in, we tend to put value on everything. Some
people may not want to read the Gita or practice any of their practices due to the fact that it may not
be their religion. I feel that you should really view certain things without judging. I would consider
practicing detachment in order to help ease tension. When you are attached to someone or somethings,
anything can happen to it which cares you to feel a certain way. However, if you were practicing
detachment, you wouldn t really care if something happens to it. You also wouldn t be as hurt; this is

When you first begin a class you never know what to expect. When I first began Intro to Ministry, I
did not know the level of insight that I would have about myself and about the character of God. I
have been able to combine the things that have happened in my past and things that are happening
now to try to paint God s picture in my life to come. Although you do not need to pinpoint the exact
moment in time when you received your call for it to be legible, I am thankful that I do. I think it was
a series of people and events unfolding in my life and God opened my eyes to the plans He had for me

In The Pleasures of Eating Wendell Berry wants the reader to recognize that eating is a cultural act. He
believes we are eaters not consumers and that we should have more knowledge about the food we eat.
Berry wants the reader to questions where the food is coming from, what condition is it produced in
and what chemicals may it contains. He has found that the food industries blind us to what we are
consuming and the effect it has on us. At last Berry believes that we must eat responsibly to live free.

understand that we cannot be free unless our food is free (Berry 232).

San Diego Field Experience
For my first of two field experiences I chose to visit the San Diego History Center located at Balboa
Park down in San Diego. There were numerous different exhibits that were on display at the time all
relating to the some aspect of the history of San Diego. Most of the exhibits had to do with the roles
that different ethnic groups played in the history of San Diego. Some of the groups represented
