Motivation
[edit]Candomblé terreiros (temples) usually have one or more guiding orixá, who is the deity of their worship. This is an essential part of a terreiro's characterization. The closest existing property I could find is patron saint (P417), which is exclusive to Christianity.
Discussion
[edit]- I do see that patron saint (P417) is very specific to Christianity and thus can't be used here. However I see no reason to create a new property with a narrow scope. If we create a new property is should be able to be used more widely. ChristianKl ❪✉❫ 23:37, 23 December 2020 (UTC)
- @ChristianKl: wouldn't be better if we just broad the scope of P417? --Tinker Bell ★ ♥ 08:21, 24 December 2020 (UTC)
- I'm also fine with broading the scope of patron saint (P417). Do you have a good hypernym? Christians likely don't appreciate it if we just use the term god even if it's applicable. ChristianKl ❪✉❫ 12:22, 24 December 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose a new property, but Support broadening the scope of P417. Nomen ad hoc (talk) 15:11, 25 December 2020 (UTC).
- The inverse property is labelled domain of saint or deity (P2925). Maybe we can just use "protector saint or deity". --Tinker Bell ★ ♥ 23:50, 25 December 2020 (UTC)
- @ChristianKl, Tinker Bell: Indeed, broadening the scope of P417 is a much better solution. I also agree that "protector saint or deity" seems like a good choice for a name. Adding an instance of (P31) of Wikidata property related to religions and beliefs (Q22983697) to P417 as well should solve this altogether. VStocco (WMB) (talk) 14:24, 4 January 2021 (UTC)
- Notified participants of WikiProject Religions: Would it be ok to broaden the scope of P417? --Tinker Bell ★ ♥ 03:18, 30 April 2022 (UTC)
