ABSTRACT Requirement volatility during software project development is known to be the most critical risk, and managing this is paramount to success in software project. The research described in this paper is based on a combination of interviews and a survey in two phases and aims to investigate the organizational practices in dealing with this risk, and how it is influenced by the adopted project execution strategy with regard to process model selection decisions.

ABSTRACT With increasing dependence on IS/IT, organizational IT investments have inflated in the last couple of decades. There is an increasing expectation that investments in the IT systems will result in greater value for the business organizations. All these justify the needs for methods to assess the business value of IT-investments. The investment decision is primarily about selecting the right combination of IT-systems that is able to provide the maximum business value in dimensions that are important business-wise.

Abstract The current research aims to investigate the preparedness among organizations in managing requirement volatility, and how it is influenced by process factors characterizing a software project. A combination of interviews and survey organized in two phases has been used to assess the level of awareness related to requirement volatility, and the current level of organizational competencies in dealing with the problem. Abstract: Requirements are found to change in various ways during the course of a project. This can affect the process in widely different manner and extent. Here we present a case study where-in we investigate the impact of requirement volatility pattern on project performance. The project setting described in the case is emulated on a validated system dynamics model representing the waterfall model. The findings indicate deviations in project outcome from the estimated thereby corroborating to previous findings.
