「All About」で住みやすい街選びのガイドなどをやっている私は、「子育てに良い街はどこか」と頻繁に聞かれる。それに当たっては一般的にいくつかの視点があるが、それが必ずしも正しいとは限らない。 よく言われる「子育てに良い街」の視点 最もよく言われるのが「郊外の自然が豊かな街」というもの。自然が豊かな場所なら、子どもは伸び伸びと外で遊び、健康的に育つと思うようだが、これは大きな勘違いだ。自然があっても、一緒に遊ぶ友達がいなければ、外で遊んでも安全な街でなければ子どもは外遊びをしない。田舎の海も山もある街でさえ、多くの子どもは室内でゲームをしていたりすることを考えれば、「自然がある＝子育てに良い街」は不動産業者が郊外物件で、自然しかない物件を売る際の宣伝文句にしか過ぎないことがわかるはずだ。 「子育てをしている世帯に手厚いサービスがある街」という視点もある。これで選ばれるのは東京都江戸川区
