- El go motion és una variant de la tècnica d'animació stop motion per a l’animació de models davant d’una càmera cinematogràfica. A l’stop motion els objectes o models són fotografiats estant completament immòbils. En canvi, al go motion, el model o objecte al que s’està animant se li aplica un moviment mentre se l'està fotografiant. D’aquesta manera s’obté en el fotograma un escombrat de moviment o “fotografia moguda”, que està present a les filmacions convencionals d’objectes en moviment. La il·lusió de moviment de l’objecte guanya, així, en realisme. Tant en el stop motion com en el go motion el resultat, un cop projectat a la pantalla, ha de produir a l'espectador la il·lusió, no només que el model es mou per si mateix, sinó que en comptes de ser un model és un objecte real. El go motion és una tècnica inventada l’any 1979 per Phil Tippett (aleshores tècnic d’efectes especials d’Industrial Light & Magic) per a animar els tauntaun i els AT-AT de la pel·lícula Star Wars episodi V: L'Imperi contraataca (estrenada l’any següent, el 1980). Bei Stop-Motion-Animationen werden Gegenstände animiert, indem sie für jedes neue Bild geringfügig verändert werden; dabei wird für jedes Bild im Film eine Einstellung fotografiert. Die endgültige Sequenz verliert jedoch dabei ihre natürliche Bewegungsunschärfe, wodurch die Animationen beim Abspielen des Films ruckartig erscheinen können. Um die nötige Unschärfewirkung zu erzeugen, werden daher beim Go-Motion-Verfahren die Objekte durch computergesteuerte Motoren bewegt, während der Kameraverschluss geöffnet ist. Stop motion animation can create a disorienting, and distinctive staccato effect, because the animated object is perfectly sharp in every frame, since each frame of the animation was actually shot when the object was perfectly still. Real moving objects in similar scenes of the same movie will have motion blur, because they moved while the shutter of the camera was open. Filmmakers use a variety of techniques to simulate motion blur, such as moving the model slightly during the exposure of each film frame or using a glass plate smeared with petroleum jelly in front of the camera lens to blur the moving areas. En cambio, en el go motion, al modelo u objeto al que se está animando se le aplica un movimiento mientras se lo está fotografiando. De este modo se obtiene en el fotograma un barrido de movimiento o "foto movida", que está presente en las filmaciones convencionales de objetos en movimiento. La ilusión de movimiento del objeto gana, así, en realismo. Tanto en el stop motion como en el go motion el resultado, una vez proyectado en pantalla, tiene que producir en el espectador la ilusión, no sólo de que el modelo se mueve por sí mismo, sino de que en vez de ser un modelo es un objeto real. Tekniken går ut på att man animerar på samma sätt som med stop motion, varefter man lägger in rörelseoskärpa på filmrutan. När man sedan spelar upp bildremsan skapas en illusion av rörelse, som till skillnad från stop motion har en rörelseoskärpa som ser ut att skapas av figuren. (sv)
