Abstract:
Beam-focusing characteristics of negative ion beams have been experimentally investigated with a superimposition of a controlled perturbation of RF field in a filament-arc discharge negative ion source. Oscillations of a negative-ion beamlet width and axis responding to the RF perturbation were observed, which may be a cause of the larger beam divergence angle of the RF negative ion source for ITE…

Beam-focusing characteristics of negative ion beams have been experimentally investigated with a superimposition of a controlled perturbation of RF field in a filament-arc discharge negative ion source. Oscillations of a negative-ion beamlet width and axis responding to the RF perturbation were observed, which may be a cause of the larger beam divergence angle of the RF negative ion source for ITER. It is pointed out that the oscillation of the beamlet width depends on the perveance and on the RF frequency such that the oscillation is suppressed at perveance-matched conditions and at low RF frequency.

This paper proposes a novel zero-shot edge detection with SCESAME, which stands for Spectral Clustering-based Ensemble for Segment Anything Model Estimation, based on the recently proposed Segment Anything Model (SAM). SAM is a foundation model for segmentation tasks, and one of the interesting applications of SAM is Automatic Mask Generation (AMG), which generates zero-shot segmentation masks of an entire image. AMG can be applied to edge detection, but suffers from the problem of overdetecting edges. Edge detection with SCESAME overcomes this problem by three steps: (1) eliminating small generated masks, (2) combining masks by spectral clustering, taking into account mask positions and overlaps, and (3) removing artifacts after edge detection. We performed edge detection experiments on two datasets, BSDS500 and NYUDv2. Although our zero-shot approach is simple, the experimental results on BSDS500 showed almost identical performance to human performance and CNN-based methods from seven years ago. In the NYUDv2 experiments, it performed almost as well as recent CNN-based methods. These results indicate that our method effectively enhances the utility of SAM and can be a new direction in zero-shot edge detection methods.

Abstract:
Let $Φ$ be a unital positive linear map and let $A$ be a positive invertible operator. We prove that there exist partial isometries $U$ and $V$ such that \[ |Φ(f(A))Φ(A)Φ(g(A))|\leq U^*Φ(f(A)Ag(A))U \] and \[\left|Φ\left(f(A)\right)^{-r}Φ(A)^rΦ\left(g(A)\right)^{-r}\right|\leq V^*Φ\left(f(A)^{-r}A^rg(A)^{-r}\right)V\] hold under some mild operator convex conditions and some positive numbers $r$. Further, we show that if $f^2$ is operator concave, then $$ |Φ(f(A))Φ(A)|\leq Φ(Af(A)).$$ In addition, we give some counterparts to the asymmetric Choi--Davis inequality and asymmetric Kadison inequality. Our results extend some inequalities due to Bourin--Ricard and Furuta.

Recently the behavior of operator monotone functions on unbounded intervals with respect to the relation of strictly positivity has been investigated. In this paper we deeply study such behavior not only for operator monotone functions but also for operator convex functions on bounded intervals. More precisely, we prove that if $f$ is a nonlinear operator convex function on a bounded interval $(a,b)$ and $A, B$ are bounded linear operators acting on a Hilbert space with spectra in $(a,b)$ and $A-B$ is invertible, then $sf(A)+(1-s)f(B)>f(sA+(1-s)B)$. A short proof for a similar known result concerning a nonconstant operator monotone function on $[0,\infty)$ is presented. Another purpose is to find a lower bound for $f(A)-f(B)$, where $f$ is a nonconstant operator monotone function, by using a key lemma. We also give an estimation of the Furuta inequality, which is an excellent extension of the Löwner--Heinz inequality.

Abstract:
We present a Diaz--Metcalf type operator inequality as a reverse Cauchy-Schwarz inequality and then apply it to get the operator versions of Pólya-Szegö's, Greub-Rheinboldt's, Kantorovich's, Shisha-Mond's, Schweitzer's, Cassels' and Klamkin-McLenaghan's inequalities via a unified approach.
