This paper explores methods to enhance the reproducibility of Josephson junctions, crucial elements in superconducting quantum technologies, when employing the Dolan technique in 30 kV e-beam processes. The study explores the influence of dose distribution along the bridge area on reproducibility, addressing challenges related to fabrication sensitivity. Experimental methods include E-beam lithography, with electron trajectory simulations shedding light on backscattered electron behavior. We demonstrate the fabrication of different junction geometries, revealing that some geometries significantly improve reproducibility by resulting in a more homogeneous dose distribution over the junction area.

Strongly-correlated transition-metal oxides are widely known for their various exotic phenomena. This is exemplified by rare-earth nickelates such as LaNiO$_{3}$, which possess intimate interconnections between their electronic, spin, and lattice degrees of freedom. Their properties can be further enhanced by pairing them in hybrid heterostructures, which can lead to hidden phases and emergent phenomena. An important example is the LaNiO$_{3}$/LaTiO$_{3}$ superlattice, where an interlayer electron transfer has been observed from LaTiO$_{3}$ into LaNiO$_{3}$ and is predicted to result in a high-spin state. However, macroscopic emergence of magnetic order has so far not been observed. Here, by using muon spin rotation, x-ray absorption, and resonant inelastic x-ray scattering, we present direct evidence of an emergent antiferromagnetic order with high magnon energy and exchange interactions at the LaNiO$_{3}$/LaTiO$_{3}$ interface. As the magnetism is purely interfacial, a single LaNiO$_{3}$/LaTiO$_{3}$ interface can essentially behave as an atomically thin quasi-two-dimensional antiferromagnet, potentially allowing its technological utilisation in advanced spintronic devices. Furthermore, its strong quasi-two-dimensional magnetic correlations and orbitally-polarized planar ligand holes make its electronic and magnetic configurations resemble the precursor states of superconducting cuprates and nickelates, but with an S $\rightarrow$ 1 spin state instead.

The locomotion of flexible membrane-like organisms on top of curved surfaces appears in different contexts and scales. Still, such dynamics have not yet been quantitatively modeled and no realization of such motion in manmade systems has been achieved. We present an experimental and theoretical study of active gel ribbons surfing on a curved fluid-fluid interface via periodic modulation of their reference curvature. We derive a theoretical model, in which forces and torques emerge from curvature mismatch between the ribbon and the substrate. Analytic and numerical solutions of the equations of motion successfully predict the experimentally measured velocity profiles. We conclude by highlighting the relevance of this new, curvature-driven, mode of locomotion for a broad range of mechanical, as well as biological systems.

Time-resolved X-ray Emission/Absorption Spectroscopy (Tr-XES/XAS) is an informative experimental tool sensitive to electronic dynamics in materials, widely exploited in diverse research fields. Typically, Tr-XES/XAS requires X-ray pulses with both a narrow bandwidth and sub-picosecond pulse duration, a combination that in principle finds its optimum with Fourier transform-limited pulses. In this work, we explore an alternative xperimental approach, capable of simultaneously retrieving information about unoccupied (XAS) and occupied (XES) states from the stochastic fluctuations of broadband extreme ultraviolet pulses of a free-electron laser. We used this method, in combination with singular value decomposition and Tikhonov regularization procedures, to determine the XAS/XES response from a crystalline silicon sample at the L2,3-edge, with an energy resolution of a few tens of meV. Finally, we combined this spectroscopic method with a pump-probe approach to measure structural and electronic dynamics of a silicon membrane. Tr-XAS/XES data obtained after photoexcitation with an optical laser pulse at 390 nm allowed us to observe perturbations of the band structure, which are compatible with the formation of the predicted precursor state of a non-thermal solid-liquid phase transition associated with a bond softening phenomenon.

Barium ruthenate Ba$_{4}$Ru$_{3}$O$_{10}$, in which Ru$_{3}$O$_{12}$ trimers are connected together to form a chequered two-dimensional framework, has been synthesised and its structural, magnetic and transport properties studied between 300 K and 2 K. The paramagnetic to antiferromagnetic transition at $T_N \sim 105$ K evidenced on the susceptibility curve coincides with an increase of electron localization in transport measurements. Thermoelectric power and Hall coefficient measurements both exhibit dramatic changes at $T_N$, characteristic of a reconstruction of the bands structure near the Fermi level. No pronounced structural changes are observed at TN in this compound. The magnetic scattering signal on the neutron powder diffraction patterns below $T_N$ is weak, but can be tentatively modelled with an antiferromagnetic ordering of the spins at both ends of a trimer, the spin of the more symmetric Ru site remaining idle. Crystal field and strong spin-orbit coupling at the Ru$^{4+}$ site seem to be the key parameters to understand the magnetic state of Ba$_{4}$Ru$_{3}$O$_{10}$.

By means of a combined x-ray diffraction, magnetic susceptibility and specific heat study, we investigate the interplay between orthorhombic distortion and stripe-like antiferromagnetic (AFM) order in the Mott insulator BaCoS$_{2}$ at $T_N=290$ K. The data give evidence of a purely electronic AFM transition with no participation of the lattice. The observation of large thermal fluctuations in the vicinity of $T_N$ and a Schottky anomaly unveils competing ground states within a minute $\sim$1 meV energy range that differ in the orbital and spin configurations of the Co ions. This interpretation suggests that the stripe-like order results from a spontaneous symmetry breaking of the geometrically frustrated pristine tetragonal phase, which offers an ideal playground to study the driving force of multi-orbital Mott transitions without the participation of the lattice.

By means of single-crystal X-ray diffraction we have revealed the breaking of centrosymmetry when lowering the temperature under T$_s$ = 200 K concomitantly with the setting of a commensurate superstructure in the small A-site quadruple perovskite YMn$_3$Mn$_4$O$_{12}$. This results is in agreement with all data already reported for this compounds and solve the previous inconsistency about the Yttrium position. The superstructure is characterized by the appearing of satellite reflections in the single crystal pattern, consistent with an I-centered pseudo-orthorhombic commensurate supercell with $a \approx \sqrt{a_F} = 10.4352(7)$ Å, $b \approx 2b_F = 14.6049(9)$ Å, $c \approx \sqrt{c_F} = 10.6961(7)$ Åand $β= 90.110(3)^\circ$, where F stands for the "fundamental" high-temperature cell ($a_F \approx c_F \approx 7.45$ Å, $b_F \approx 7.34$ Å, and $β\approx 90^\circ$). The space-group was unequivocally found to be Ia, which is non polar, thus allowing for a non-zero polarization in the material. We then have investigated in detail the pyrocurrent, transport, dielectric and the DC and AC magnetic properties of polycrystalline sample of YMn$_3$Mn$_4$O$_{12}$ over a wide temperature range. These measurements clearly highlight several critical temperatures in the material and correlation between the different orders: i) the centrosymmetry is broken at high temperature (T$_S$ = 200K), ii) then the long-range magnetic order of B-sites occurs at T$_{N,B}$ = 108 K and at this same temperature the compound enters in an insulating dielectric state. iii) Finally, a remnant polarization is stabilized concomitantly with a magnetic anomaly at T* = 70 K. We propose that YMn$_3$Mn$_4$O$_{12}$ is a peculiar magnetic ferroelectric in which the polar state is driven by short-range magnetic order.

The quasi-2D Pt-based rare earth intermetallic material LaPt$_2$Si$_2$ has attracted attention as it exhibits strong interplay between charge density wave (CDW) and and superconductivity (SC). However, the most of the results reported on this material come from theoretical calculations, preliminary bulk investigations and powder samples, which makes it difficult to uniquely determine the temperature evolution of its crystal structure and, consequently, of its CDW transition. Therefore, the published literature around LaPt$_2$Si$_2$ is often controversial. In this paper, we clarify the complex evolution of the crystal structure, and the temperature dependence of the development of density wave transitions, in good quality LaPt$_2$Si$_2$ single crystals, with high resolution synchrotron X-ray diffraction data. According to our findings, on cooling from room temperature LaPt$_2$Si$_2$ undergoes a series of subtle structural transitions which can be summarised as follows: second order commensurate tetragonal ($P4/nmm$)-to-incommensurate structure followed by a first order incommensurate-to-commensurate orthorhombic ($Pmmn$) transition and then a first order commensurate orthorhombic ($Pmmn$)-to-commensurate tetragonal ($P4/nmm$). The structural transitions are accompanied by both incommensurate and commensurate superstructural distortions of the lattice. The observed behavior is compatible with discommensuration of the CDW in this material.

Time-resolved ARPES gives access to the band structure and ultrafast dynamics of excited electronic states in solids. The orbital character of the bands close to the Fermi level is essential to understand the origin of several exotic phenomena in quantum materials. By performing polarization dependent time- and angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy and by analyzing the chirality of the photoelectron yield for two different crystal orientations, we identify the orbital character of bands below and above the chemical potential for the Dirac semimetal BaNiS2. Our results illustrate how the control and understanding of matrix elements effects in time-resolved photoemission spectroscopy can be a powerful tool for the study of quantum materials.

At $T_{\rm CO}$, the IXS spectra unveil a softening of a 35.3 meV phonon at ${\bf q}_{\rm CO}$. Lattice dynamical calculations enable us to attribute this soft phonon to a A$_g$ mode whose polarization matches the Jahn-Teller-like distortion pattern of the structural modulation. This result demonstrates that the Jahn-Teller instability is the driving force of the CO Verwey transition in (NaMn$_3$)Mn$_4$O$_{12}$, thus elucidating a long-standing controversy regarding the mechanism of this transition observed in other mixed-valence systems like magnetite.

By means of high-pressure resistivity measurements on single crystals, we investigate the charge transport properties of Cu$_x$PdTe$_2$, notable for the combination of topological type-II Dirac semimetallic properties with superconductivity up to $T_c = 2.5$ K. In both cases of pristine ($x = 0$) and intercalated ($x=0.05$) samples, we find an unconventional $T^4$ power law behavior of the low-temperature resistivity visible up to $\sim$40 K and remarkably stable under pressure up to 8.2 GPa. This observation is explained by the low carrier density $n$, which strongly reduces the $k$-region available for electron-phonon scattering, as previously reported in other low-$n$ two-dimensional systems, such as multilayer graphene and semiconductor heterostructures. Our data analysis complemented by specific heat measurements and supported by previous quantum oscillation studies and \textit{ab initio} calculations suggests a scenario of one-band charge transport. Within this scenario, our analysis yields a large value of transport electron-phonon coupling constant $λ_{tr} = 1.2$ at ambient pressure that appears to be strongly enhanced by pressure assuming a constant effective mass.

The frequency-dependent peaks of the AC magnetic susceptibility, along with remarkable memory effects, characterize spin-glass states. Furthermore, various phenomenological parameters via different spin glass models show strong similarity within these three compounds as well as with other rare-earth metal nickelates. The universal spin-glass behaviour distinguishes the nickelates from the parent compound CaCuO$_{2}$ of cuprate superconductors, which has the same crystal structure and $d^9$ electronic configuration but undergoes a long-range antiferromagnetic order. Our investigations may indicate a distinctly different nature of magnetism and superconductivity in the bulk nickelates than in the cuprates.

The electronic properties of transition-metal oxides with highly correlated electrons are of central importance in modern condensed matter physics and chemistry, both for their fundamental scientific interest, and for their potential for advanced electronic applications. The design of materials with tailored properties has been, however, restricted by the limited understanding of their structure-property relationships, which are particularly complex in the proximity of the regime where localized electrons become gradually mobile. RENiO3 perovskites, characterized by the presence of spontaneous metal to insulator transitions, are one of the most widely used model materials for the investigation of this region in theoretical studies. However, crucial experimental information needed to validate theoretical predictions is still lacking due to their challenging high-pressure synthesis, which has prevented to date the growth of sizable bulk single crystals with RE different than La, Pr and Nd. Here we report the first successful growth of single crystals with RE = Nd, Sm, Gd, Dy, Y, Ho, Er and Lu and sizes up to ~75 μm, grown from molten salts in temperature gradient under 2000 bar oxygen gas pressure. The crystals display regular prismatic shapes with flat facets, and their crystal structures, metal-insulator and antiferromagnetic order transition temperatures are in excellent agreement with previously reported values obtained from polycrystalline samples. The availability of such crystals opens access to measurements that have hitherto been impossible to conduct. This should contribute to a better understanding of the fascinating properties of materials with highly correlated electrons, and guide future efforts to engineer transition metal oxides with tailored functional properties.

We investigate the optical conductivity and far-infrared magneto-optical response of BaNiS$_2$, a simple square-lattice semimetal characterized by Dirac nodal lines that disperse exclusively along the out-of-plane direction. With the magnetic field aligned along the nodal line the in-plane Landau level spectra show a nearly $\sqrt{B}$ behavior, the hallmark of a conical-band dispersion with a small spin-orbit coupling gap. The optical conductivity exhibits an unusual temperature-independent isosbestic line, ending at a Van Hove singularity. First-principles calculations unambiguously assign the isosbestic line to transitions across Dirac nodal states. Our work suggests a universal topology of the electronic structure of Dirac nodal lines.

By means of magnetic, specific heat and pyroelectric measurements, we report on magnetic ferroelectricity in the quadruple perovskite \namno, characterized by a canted antiferromagnetic (AFM) CE structure. Surprisingly, ferroelectricity is concomitant to a dramatic broadening of the magnetic hysteresis loop, well below the AFM ordering temperature. This unconventional behavior shows that the formation of ferroelectric domains is induced by the symmetric exchange interaction in the local scale, e.g. at magnetic domain boundaries or defects. The value of electric polarization, $P = 0.027 μ$C cm$^{-2}$, measured in polycrystalline samples is comparatively large as compared to other magnetic multiferroics, suggesting that the above scenario is promising indeed for the rational design of practical multiferroic materials.

By means of pump-probe time- and angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy, we provide evidence of a sizeable reduction of the Fermi velocity of out-of-equilibrium Dirac bands in the quasi-two-dimensional semimetal BaNiS$_2$. First-principle calculations indicate that this band renormalization is ascribed to a change in non-local electron correlations driven by a photo-induced enhancement of screening properties. This effect is accompanied by a slowing down of the Dirac fermions and by a non-rigid shift of the bands at the center of the Brillouin zone. This result suggests that other similar electronic structure renormalizations may be photoinduced in other materials in presence of strong non-local correlations.

Dirac fermions play a central role in the study of topological phases, for they can generate a variety of exotic states, such as Weyl semimetals and topological insulators. The control and manipulation of Dirac fermions constitute a fundamental step towards the realization of novel concepts of electronic devices and quantum computation. By means of ARPES experiments and ab initio simulations, here we show that Dirac states can be effectively tuned by doping a transition metal sulfide, BaNiS2, through Co/Ni substitution. The symmetry and chemical characteristics of this material, combined with the modification of the charge transfer gap of BaCo_{1-x}Ni_{x}S_{2} across its phase diagram, lead to the formation of Dirac lines whose position in k-space can be displaced along the Gamma M symmetry direction, and their form reshaped. Not only does the doping x tailor the location and shape of the Dirac bands, but it also controls the metal-insulator transition in the same compound, making BaCo_{1-x}Ni_{x}S_{2} a model system to functionalize Dirac materials by varying the strength of electron correlations.

We show from DFT computations that (001) and (110) free surfaces have comparable energies, and, correspondingly, we experimentally observe that single micro-crystals exhibit both facet orientations. These surfaces are found to relax over typically the length of one oxygen octahedron, defining a structural critical thickness for thin films. A reconstruction of the electronic density associated to tilts of the oxygen octahedra is observed. On the other hand, thin films have invariably been reported to grow along the (110) direction. We show that the interfacial energy associated to the oxygen octahedra distortion for epitaxy is likely at the origin of this specific feature, and propose leads to induce (001) SrIrO3 growth.

We present a muon spin relaxation study of the Mott transition in BaCoS_2 using two independent control parameters: (i) pressure p to tune the electronic bandwidth and (ii) Ni-substitution x on the Co site to tune the band filling. For both tuning parameters, the antiferromagnetic insulating state first transitions to an antiferromagnetic metal and finally to a paramagnetic metal without undergoing any structural phase transition. BaCoS_2 under pressure displays minimal change in the ordered magnetic moment S_ord until it collapses abruptly upon entering the antiferromagnetic metallic state at p_cr ~ 1.3 GPa. In contrast, S_ord in the Ni-doped system Ba(Co_{1-x}Ni_{x})S_{2} steadily decreases with increasing x until the antiferromagnetic metallic region is reached at x_cr ~ 0.22. In both cases, significant phase separation between magnetic and nonmagnetic regions develops when approaching p_cr or x_cr, and the antiferromagnetic metallic state is characterized by weak, random, static magnetism in a small volume fraction. No dynamical critical behavior is observed near the transition for either tuning parameter. These results demonstrate that the quantum evolution of both the bandwidth- and filling-controlled metal-insulator transition at zero temperature proceeds as a first-order transition. This behavior is common to magnetic Mott transitions in RENiO_3 and V_2O_3, which are accompanied by structural transitions without the formation of an antiferromagnetic metal phase.

X-ray diffraction measurements indicates an anomalous behavior of the monoclinic $β$ angle at $T_{N,B}$, which suggests that $P$ lies in the $ac$-plane, where the moments are collinear, so we conclude that exchange striction is the mechanism of spin-driven ferroelectricity. Polarization values $\sim$3 $μ$C cm$^{-2}$ are expected in single crystals, which would open the avenue towards practical multiferroic applications.

At low temperature, a marked upturn of both $C$ and $\varrho$ is suppressed by magnetic field, which suggests a picture of Kondo coupling between conduction electrons in the VS$_2$ layers and impurity spins of the V$^{3+}$ ions located between layers. This picture opens the possibility of controlling electronic correlations and the FL to non-FL crossover in simple layered materials. For instance, we envisage that the coupling between layers provided by the impurity spins may realize a two-channel Kondo state.

The origin of the metal-to-insulator transition in RNiO3 perovskites with trivalent 4f ion has challenged the condensed matter research community for almost three decades. A drawback for progress in this direction has been the lack of studies combining physical properties and accurate structural data covering the full nickelate phase diagram. Here we focus on a small region close to the itinerant limit (R = Pr, 1.5K < T < 300K), where we investigate the gap opening and the simultaneous emergence of charge order in PrNiO3. We combine electric resistance, magnetization, and heat capacity measurements with high resolution neutron and synchrotron x-ray powder diffraction data that, in contrast to previous studies, we analyze in terms of symmetry-adapted distortion modes. Such analysis allows to identify the contribution of the different modes to the global distortion in a broad temperature range. Moreover, it shows that the structural changes at the MIT, traditionally described in terms of the evolution of the interatomic distances and angles, appear as abrupt increases of all nonzero mode amplitudes at TMIT = TN ~130K accompanied by the appearance of new modes below this temperature. A further interesting observation is the existence of a nearly perfect linear correlation between the amplitude of the breathing mode associated to the charge order and the staggered magnetization below the MIT. Our data also uncover a previously unnoticed anomaly at T* ~60K (~0.4 x TMIT), clearly visible in the electrical resistance, lattice parameters and some mode amplitudes. Since phase coexistence is only observed in a small temperature region around TMIT (~10K), these observations suggest the existence of a hidden symmetry in the insulating phase. We discuss some possible origins, among them the theoretically predicted existence of polar distortions induced by the non-centrosymmetric magnetic order.

The angle and temperature dependence of quantum oscillations indicates a quasi-two-dimensional Fermi surface, made of an electron-like tube centred at $Γ$, and of 4 hole-like cones, generated by Dirac bands, weakly dispersive in the out-of-plane direction. Ab initio electronic structure calculations, in the density functional theory framework, show that the inclusion of screened exchange is necessary to account for the experimental Fermi pockets. Therefore, the choice of the functional becomes crucial. A modified HSE hybrid functional with 7% of exact exchange outperforms both GGA and GGA+U density functionals, signalling the importance of non-local screened-exchange interactions in BaNiS$_2$, and, more generally, in $3d$ compensated semimetals.

Optical conductivity measurements on a BaCoS2 single crystal show an unusual linear behavior over a broad spectral range. In the paramagnetic phase above 300 K, the spectrum shows no gap, which contradicts the previously proposed scenario of a charge-transfer Mott insulator. Ab initio dynamical mean field theory calculations including a retarded Hubbard interaction explain the data in terms of an incipient opening of a Co(3d)-S(3p) charge-transfer gap concomitant to incoherent charge transport driven by electronic correlations. These results point to a non-Fermi liquid scenario with Hund's metal properties in the paramagnetic state, which arises from an incipient Mott phase destabilized by low-energy charge fluctuations across the vanishing 3d-3p charge-transfer gap.

Surprisingly, we find bulk superconductivity with $T_c$=84 K and superfluid density similar to those of optimally doped Y123. On the other hand, specific heat data display a large electronic contribution at low temperature, comparable to that of nonsuperconducting overdoped La214. These results point at an unusual high-$T_c$ phase with a large fraction of unpaired holes. Further experiments may assess the Fermi liquid properties of the present phase, which would put into question the paradigm that the high $T_c$ of cuprates originates from a non-Fermi liquid ground state.

Our analysis of magnetoresistivity and specific heat data consistently suggests a picture of compensated semimetal with two hole- and one electron-bands, where electron-phonon scattering dominates charge transport and the minority holes exhibit, below $\sim$100 K, a very large mobility, $μ_h\sim$ 15000 cm$^2$V$^{-1}$s$^{-1}$, which is explained by a Dirac-like band. Evidence of unconventional metallic properties is given by an intriguing crossover of the resistivity from a Bloch-Grüneisen regime to a linear$-T$ regime occurring at 2 K and by a strong linear term in the paramagnetic susceptibility above 100 K. We discuss the possibility that these anomalies reflect a departure from conventional Fermi-liquid properties in presence of short-range AF fluctuations and of a large Hund coupling.

We report on a systematic study of the structural, magnetic and transport properties of high-purity 1T-VS$_2$ powder samples prepared under high pressure. The results differ notably from those previously obtained by de-intercalating Li from LiVS$_2$. First, no Charge Density Wave (CDW) is found by transmission electron microscopy down to 94 K. Though, \textit{ab initio} phonon calculations unveil a latent CDW instability driven by an acoustic phonon softening at the wave vector ${\bf q}_{CDW} \approx$ (0.21,0.21,0) previously reported in de-intercalated samples. A further indication of latent lattice instability is given by an anomalous expansion of the V-S bond distance at low temperature. Second, infrared optical absorption and electrical resistivity measurements give evidence of non metallic properties, consistent with the observation of no CDW phase. On the other hand, magnetic susceptibility and NMR data suggest the coexistence of localized moments with metallic carriers, in agreement with \textit{ab initio} band structure calculations. This discrepancy is reconciled by a picture of electron localization induced by disorder or electronic correlations leading to a phase separation of metallic and non-metallic domains in the nm scale. We conclude that 1T-VS$_2$ is at the verge of a CDW transition and suggest that residual electronic doping in Li de-intercalated samples stabilizes a uniform CDW phase with metallic properties.

We present the single-crystalline x-ray diffraction study on the Ba4Ru3O10 consisting of the corner-shared Ru3O12 trimers. The crystal structure is re-determined from 78 to 300 K across an antiferromagnetic transition at 105 K. The orthorhombic symmetry (Cmca, space group No. 64) is preserved at all temperatures measured. This structure presents exceptionally long Ru-O distances characterized by a significant distribution within the Ru3O12 trimer. A bond valence sum calculation suggests that the charge disproportionation within the Ru3O12 trimer emerges even at room temperature, which we ascribe to molecular orbital formation in the Ru3O12 trimer, as supported by recent theoretical calculations. Based on the analyzed crystal structure, the electronic states and the nature of the phase transition at 105 K are discussed.

A study of the antiferromagnet CeRh$_2$Si$_2$ by torque, magnetostriction, and transport in pulsed magnetic fields up to 50 Tesla and by thermal expansion in static fields up to 13 Tesla is presented. The magnetic field-temperature phase diagram of CeRh$_2$Si$_2$, where the magnetic field is applied along the easy axis $\mathbf{c}$, is deduced from these measurements. The second-order phase transition temperature $T_{N}$ and the first-order phase transition temperature $T_{1,2}$ (=~36 K and 26 K at zero-field, respectively) decrease with increasing field. The field-induced antiferromagnetic-to-paramagnetic borderline $H_c$, which equals 26 T at 1.5 K, goes from first-order at low temperature to second-order at high temperature. The magnetic field-temperature phase diagram is found to be composed of (at least) three different antiferromagnetic phases. These are separated by the first-order lines $H_{1,2}$, corresponding to $T_{1,2}$ at H=0, and $H_{2,3}$, which equals 25.5 T at 1.5 K. A maximum of the $T^2$-coefficient $A$ of the resistivity is observed at the onset of the high-field polarized regime, which is interpreted as the signature of an enhanced effective mass at the field-induced quantum instability. The magnetic field dependence of the $A$ coefficient in CeRh$_2$Si$_2$ is compared with its pressure dependence, and also with the field dependence of $A$ in the prototypal heavy-fermion system CeRu$_2$Si$_2$.
