Vegetables samples were collected and analysed for Pb, Cu, Zn, Ni, Mn Cr and Cd using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometric techniques for the period of 4 month. Results show high heavy metal concentration in the month of november when compared to the month of august, September and October, all the heavy metal concentration in the vegetables were within WHO/FAO permissible limits but these can cause hazardous health effects in people, who are ingesting these vegetables for long period of time due to magnification of these heavy metals in their body. It is thereby recommended that KEPA should serve as references laboratory for the approval of farmers that intend to undertake dry farming.

The process of electrocoagulation sedimentation and filtration was performed according to various procedures to treat the wastewater. The results obtained showed high turbidity, electrical conductivity, nitrate, sulphide, phosphate, cyanide, chlorides, oil and grease as well as heavy metals (The process of electrocoagulation can be effectively used to remove pollutant from refinery wastewater. It is recommended that Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company should add electrocoagulation as a supplement the menace of water pollution faced by the inhabitants of Romi and Rido.

Water sample was collected from Kaduna Refinery effluent point, Romi up and Romi down. The Bioconcentration (BCF) and Biotranslocation (BTF) Factors of each metal were determined. The experinmental study showed that Ecchornia crassipes is a suitable candidate for effective removal of heavy metals (Hg, Cd, Mn, Ag, Pb, Zn) from Romi stream.

Mining has increased rapidly due to the development of large-scale mines. This technique of mining disturbs large areas of land and water which need to be restored. The environmental problems arising due to mining activities are natural land degradation, air and water pollution with heavy metals, organic and inorganic waste, negative impact on terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, human health and socioeconomic. Possibly, the weightiest after effect of a mining is its effects on water resources. The impact of mining on surface and groundwater is due to spill erosion, sedimentation, acid mine drainage, lowering of water table, subsidence, disturbance on hydrological cycle and rainfall. Acid mine drainage is regarded one of mining's most serious threats to water resources. A mine with acid drainage has the capacity for long term damaging impacts on rivers, streams and aquatic life. This study is an appraisal of mining impacts on water resources.
