Initiated by the founding father Adalbert Kuhn, Indo-European phraseology and poetics has been a constant subject of research, with a first synthesis in 1967 by Rüdiger Schmitt (Dichtung und Dichtersprache in indogermanischer Zeit, Wiesbaden), a seminal book by Calvert Watkins in 1995 (How to Kill a Dragon. Aspects of Indo-European Poetics, Oxford) and various important works by Enrico Campanile, Françoise Bader, M.L. West and some others. Didier Calin has made a new synthesis in the form of a Dictionary, extremely practical in use, where he not only presents the existing results, but also brings the new discoveries he made with the help of the Anatolian languages and the Latvian folksongs, the dainas. A copious index verborum and index locorum enable the researchers to find quickly a text occurence and its translation. The book is designed not only for comparatists or indo-europeanists but also for classicists and for the specialists of various branches who are interested in the deep history of their field.» Didier CALIN, who lives in Riga, was trained in Germany in Indo-European philology. He has studied extensively the Latvian dainas (popular folksongs) which retain an extraordinary wealth of mythological motives of Indo-European age. Can be ordered here : http://www.centchemins.com/

G. BAUCHHENSS corrects some preconceived notions about iconography; F. BURILLO MOZOTA, J. A. ARENAS ESTEBAN and M. P. BURILLO CUADRADO investigate the cultural context of an astronomic platform at Segeda; P. SCHERRER puts the nautae Parisiaci pillar on a new hermeneutical basis; N. GAVRILOVIĆ looks for Celtic speakers in Eastern Europe. J. GORROCHATEGUI, M. C. GONZÁLEZ RODRÍGUEZ, P. LAJOYE offer partly revised readings of several votive inscriptions and divine names while P. Y. LAMBERT, B. RÉMY, X. DELAMARRE analyse theonymical epithets in different ways and N. BECK scrutinizes the relationship between deities and ethnics. P. DE BERNARDO STEMPEL discusses the transformations to be observed in a provincial pantheon from the first Celtic inscriptions to the latest Roman ones; W. SPICKERMANN questions the continuity between Pre-Roman and Romano-Celtic religion; A. HOFENEDER follows the trail of an Old Celtic and later syncretic deity up to the Imperial Roman historical tradition. M. HAINZMANN and P. DE BERNARDO STEMPEL present – with the help of numerous and easily understandable tables – an innovative systematization of the various syncretic phenomena known as interpretatio, whose geographic diversity is pointed out by F. MARCO SIMÓN.

This may clarify the etymology of some Proper Names : ! Hridanov", a stream mentioned by ancient writers, would then be a “ western stream” (dāno-“ stream”, as in Rodanos et Danuvius) ; Eregina, and Aerius would be formed on the same preposition, with the semantism of Welsh wyr “ grand son”. In: Etudes Celtiques, vol. 36, 2008. pp. 75-77

It is proposed here to add two new representants to the corpus. 1. In an inscription on a stela of Ravenna a shipwright, faber navalis, bears the name of Longidienus that could be a Latin adaptation of a Gaulish *Longo-dēno- 'Swift-Boat'. 2. A new etymology of Longo-, *longā is presented, on the adjective h1lengwh- 'light, swift, rapid, as opposed to the traditional explanation by a Latin loan (nāvis) longa. 4. The word LOKA of the Todi stela is reassessed.

Λεονοριος, Λουτουριος, etc. b. par les Romains : ex. Vercingetorix, Diviciacus, Catamantaloedis (gén.) 2° Les emprunts anciens des Romains aux Gaulois Vergillius, Līvius, Camillus, Gellius etc. 3° Les traductions : Aiunus = Perpetuus, Aeternalis ; Suleviae = Gubernatrix ; Dagovir(us) = Homobonus, Voretouiros = Aλεξανδρος (?), Budenicus = Militaris (Mars), etc.

The book is designed not only for comparatists or indo-europeanists but also for classicists and for the specialists of various branches who are interested in the deep history of their field.»
Didier CALIN, who lives in Riga, was trained in Germany in Indo-European philology. He has studied extensively the Latvian dainas (popular folksongs) which retain an extraordinary wealth of mythological motives of Indo-European age.
