Scheherazade Bloul is a doctoral candidate at the UNESCO Chair for Cultural Diversity and Social Justice at Deakin University, Melbourne, Australia. Her PhD research aims to understand the intersections of social media, news media, and political participation among youth in post-2011 North Africa. Her honours thesis explored Islamic cross-cultural identities, representations, and mediation in Australia through the lens of modest fashion where she was awarded a scholarship by the University of Canberra.
She is also program facilitator for the Australia-Middle East Journalism Exchange (AMEJE) programs to the Middle East. AMEJE is a not-for-profit organisation that aims to improve cross-cultural understanding by fostering better-informed journalism.
Research interests include youth cultures, digital media, gender, race, decolonizing and re-gendering power relations, journalism and communication studies, big data, intersectionality.
