<jats:p>Turkish cinema, which its history goes back to early 20th century, has been affected by cultural and economic transformations of society and has witnessed to various quests. 1960-1975 period of Turkish cinema is accepted as "Yeşilçam Cinema" that creates new characteristics after its infanthood. Considering many different factors, it is possible to say that Yeşilçam is a hybrid production that has been collated in the cultural and economical process of the Turkey in those years. These films have testified the cultural identity quests of Turkey that was upon the tension between Eastern-Western and they have also embodied these quests through stereotypes, events, states and spaces. Yeşilçam which resolve social duality by carrying it in nuclear family have been criticized on the issue that they went far the reality and deceived the public through causing to forget problems of country. However, they have a naive answer and an agreeable opinion on the search of cultural identity almost in all: "confrontation with the West does not mean to lose our faith, moral and essence; a synthesis is possible".</jats:p>

Plastic bag bioreactors are single-use bioreactors, frequently used in solid culture fermentation. This study developed plastic bag bioreactors with more effective aeration conditions and particular connection elements that yield sensors, environmental control, and modular connectivity. This bioreactor system integrates the bags in a chain that circulates air and moisture through filtered connections. Within the present scope, this study also aimed to reveal that cultures in different plastic bags can be produced without affecting each other. In this direction, biomass production in the modular chain bioreactor (MCB) system developed in this study was compared to traditional bag systems. In addition, contamination experiments were carried out between the bags in the system, and it was observed that the filters in the developed system did not affect the microorganisms in different bags.

It is accepted that shopping centers, which are built to accommodate different functions and claim to be an alternative to the city center, present the public space interpretation of the postmodern era. This article talk over the İstinyepark İzmir Shopping Center by its public space qualifications. It was developed, in addition the classic multi-storey shopping mall setup, as an alternative 'life center' to the urban space with referments to the 'traditional public neighbourhood-market experience', a 'public street' and 'public city park'. As a result of the examination, it was concluded that the project could not go beyond being a consumption space. Today, among urban projects, shopping centers stand out as one of the most profitable investment areas of capital accumulation processes. With globalization, the unlimited circulation of capital in all over the world has also transformed the consumption habits. At the present, the urban space is being reorganized throughout to this dominant role of consumption, and in this organization, the consumption-oriented nodes of leisure and entertainment become prominent as large-scale shopping centers. Shopping centers is defined and presented as an alternative to the city center by isolating with their location choices, site plan organizations and spatial patterns. Thus, it has been created a reality focused only on consumption in today's shopping malls. 1960-1975 period of Turkish cinema is accepted as 'Yeşilçam'. These films have embodied the modernization process of Turkey. Generally, in media and literature, Yeşilçam Cinema has been criticized as being deprived of creativity and are considered to be weak in terms of spatial fiction. Accordingly, few studies are to be found that investigating 'the use of space in the Yeşilçam Cinema' in the related literature. The main purpose of this paper to trace spatial symbols of traditional-modern dilemma’s conflicts in Yeşilçam Cinema. From this point of view, within the scope of this study, 66 films were selected for a detailed analyse, which have strong signs about space using and traces of modernization critics. The main assertion of this study is that the use of space in Yeşilçam films was not deprived of fiction and was not randomly selected and also spaces of them strongly represent the modernization discussions of their period.

Biologically -inspired computing led to the development of a multi-disciplinary approach and implemented to computing technics. It shows us is that slime mold computes the optimal distance between a food source and its body and then adapts its route. What makes slime mold special is that the computing algorithm changes when exposed to various environmental conditions like repellent or attractive stimuli. In addition, slime mold avoids from the repulsive fields and adopts its route accordingly. The transportation networks can be analyzed by using the optimization capability of slime molds, new transportation lines can be detected, and the efficiency of the existing lines can be analyzed. In this paper, the potential exploitation of the approach for Izmir motorway planning is examined. Slime mold is inoculated on scaled Izmir city map, geographical conditions are represented as attractive and repulsive and the minimum distances are calculated.

Biodesign is an interdisciplinary field in which biological processes are combined with many different fields to produce environmentally friendly and economically feasible products. Within the scope of this study, first CaCO 3 production potential of Sporosarcina pasteurii has been observed and optimized, and then the capability of hardening of the sand is examined. The optimum CaCl 2 concentration for maximized CaCO 3 formation was found as 50 mM. The ecological urban element was designed and its mold was produced by 3D printer at lab scale. The Sporosarcina pasteurii was mixed with sand and filled into the mold. The sand was mixed with 50 mM CaCl 2 solution every day until hardening is observed. At the end of one week, a sitting element from hardened sand was produced. The CaCO 3 formation was observed with XPS analysis. Thus, an interdisciplinary approach was used to produce ecological biodesign products.v

As cities grow, their complexity and the complexity of their infrastructure for various applications increase. Especially, transportation design is usually a very cumbersome process in current urban development models, and it is becoming more complex. Traditional approaches are not always sufficient to solve such complex problems, therefore, design disciplines like architecture and urban design need new tools to optimize many parameters related to their design. An alternate way to solve this problem can be via finding shortest routes. In this context, this study aims to evaluate different shortest path algorithms within a methodological approach to urban transportation planning via either experimentation or mathematical modeling. Bu durum modernlesmeyle zayiflayan sosyal iliskiler cercevesinde yalnizlasan birey uzerinde temellenmektedir. Gunumuzde cesitli uretim bicimleriyle karsimiza cikan ve yeni bir konut yasam cevresi olarak degerlendirilebilecek kapali konut topluluklari, sosyal iliskilere ayri bir onem atfederek geleneksel mahalleyi ve onun sahip oldugu komsuluk iliskilerini yeniden canlandirma hedefiyle sunulmaktadirlar. Biodesign can be explained as a method that includes various researches and applications related to taking inspiration from natural functions, systems, components, or processes in solving a problem. Accordingly, biodesign is commonly used in the design of artificial devices, structures, and buildings in the field of bioengineering. The recent developments in the field of biotechnology and bioengineering bring out various products that are designed in collaboration with different engineering disciplines. In this chapter, the possible use of bacteria, microalgae, and fungi for biomimetic design and the role of biomimicry for these designs will be briefly discussed.

Kentteki saglik kurumlarini topluca ve detayli olarak ortaya koyan bir kaynak olmadigi gibi; yapisal, mekânsal ve mimari nitelikleriyle irdeleyen bir calisma da bulunmamaktadir.Bu yazi kapsaminda Cumhuriyet donemi oncesinde kentte insa edilen hastane yapilari incelenmis, donusturulen yapilar kapsam disinda tutularak hastane olarak insa edilen binalar esas alinmistir. Yapilan detayli literatur taramasi cercevesinde, Izmir'de saglik kavrami ve mekansal yansimalarini ortaya koymak; gunumuze ulasan ya da yok olan hastane yapilarini belgelemek ve kentteki hastane yapilarinin mekansal gelisimlerini irdelemek hedeflenmistir. Technological advancements and scientific researches, especially in nanotechnology and genetic engineering in the latter part of the 20th century, encourage new approaches for the architecture of the future at present. There have been many studies on genetic algorithms, nano-materials, nanostructures and "searching a new architecture" with the help of interdisciplinary relationships between architecture and nanotechnology and genetics. This study categorizes contemporary works in this field into three main approaches: the form-finding strategies helped by genetic algorithms, the hybrid designs with nano-materials or nano-sensors and the living architectures. Thus, the aim of this paper is to introduce new architectural approaches generated with the interdisciplinary domains of genetics and nanotechnology and to discuss them in the context of the future of architecture.
