Poster: Interaction Qualities For Interactions With, Between, And Through IoT Devices

Abstract
Much research has been done around “Human Interactions with the IoT”. How the interactions shall be designed, how they might be characterized, and how they are related to meaningful usage scenarios for the IoT. However, “Interactions with the IoT” is a wide term, sometimes too wide. We relate our own multisensory tool, the Loaded Dice, to this domain and briefly describe how we methodically incorporate them to ideate IoT usage scenarios and characterize interaction qualities for the IoT using an interaction vocabulary. We discuss based on our experience using our tools in workshops, why a breakdown of ‘interactions with the IoT’ into interactions ‘with’, ‘between’, and ‘through’ connected devices is more nuanced and often more meaningful to understand why and how users want to interact with the IoT.
