The main aim of the paper was to investigate the effectiveness of the use of this approach for improv- ing the English language, which was done in the following ways: 1) by assessing the test results concerning language systems (vocabulary and grammar) and skills (reading, listening, speaking, writing), before and after the use of the project-based learning approach, and 2) by map- ping students’ attitudes concerning the usefulness of this approach for improving language systems (vocabulary and grammar) and skills (reading, listening, speaking, writing). Tematski okvir i istraživanje sprovedeno za potrebe disertacije mogu se svrstati u oblast primenjene lingvistike. Regarding the fact that social networks are an integral part of the virtual communication in the 21st century, the speech of the group of students of English language and literature, as the representatives of an interesting and creative way of the exchange of opinions, is analysed in this paper. Since the language is a symbol of culture, it can simultaneously be considered as a part of the social identity of every single individual. Horas Volpol bio je engleski plemić i kolekcionarfasciniran gotskom arhitekturom, srednjovekovnim životom iprošlošću uopšte. U ovom duhu napisao je 1764. godine svojroman prvenac, Otrantski zamak, čiji žnačaj ne leži toliko unjegovoj umetničkoj vrednosti, koliko u činjenici da je u pitanjupionirski gotski roman iz kog su pisci crpli inspiraciju dugonakon njegovog objavljivanja. The central plot of Fletcher and Shakespeare's play The Two Noble Kinsmen derives from Chauce... more The central plot of Fletcher and Shakespeare's play The Two Noble Kinsmen derives from Chaucer's The Knight's Tale, so it could be interpreted through the theory of intertextuality and transtextuality. The prototext of these literary works is identical, but it has been modified over the centuries. It has changed from a mythological story into a universal symbol of love, friendship, authority, honor, and death. Apart from the permutation of texts by different authors, The Two Noble Kinsmen is also a curious collection of Shakespeare's earlier works, despite the frequent contestation of his contribution to this play. Such self-citation is an interesting phenomenon, especially if we consider the fact that this play is Shakespeare's last work and not The Tempest, as traditionally stated in literary histories. This paper presents the role of teaching English literature in the process of developing and prom... more This paper presents the role of teaching English literature in the process of developing and promoting lifelong learning. With the aim of considering the significance of contemporary education for completing the demands of modern society, students’ assessment, which concerns the possibility of improving the 21st century skills in teaching English literature, was carried out. The research was conducted with the students of the Department of English Language and Literature at the Faculty of Philosophy in Kosovska Mitrovica. Their attitudes regarding the possibility of improving cooperation, communication, creativity and innovation, critical thinking, self-direction, global and local connections and the use of technology were examined by means of a questionnaire.
The data were analysed by applying descriptive statistics. The final results proved the hypotheses which emphasized the significance of teaching English literature at the tertiary level of education for involving 21st century skills and transforming students of English language and literature into lifelong learners.
