He obtained a master's degree in Modern and Contemporary History with the thesis «O Património edificado em Vila Viçosa no século XVIII: Encomenda, Financiamento e Construção» He is a Ph.D. student in Art History at School of Arts and Humanities, University of Lisbon (FLUL), preparing a thesis about the artistic work of Alentejo Marbles - 17th to 20th centuries: «Arte na mestria do canteiro. Um percurso histórico pelos Mármores do Alentejo entre o século XVII e XX». Integrated researcher of ARTIS – IHA, FLUL and CECHAP. Collaborator researcher of CLEPUL, FLUL and CIDEHUS, University of Évora. Member of the Portuguese Society for The Study of Construction History - SPEHC and of the International movement for a new Museology - MINOM. Founder member of the Association for Studies in Culture, History, Arts and Heritage - CECHAP. Founder member and director of the Institute of the Patron of Portugal for the Studies of Mariology - IPPEM. Author and coordinator of the research projects: «Portugal Marble Route», «Heritage and History of the Marble Industry» and «CallipoArtes - Cultural History of Calipolenses Personalities ». Author of several published books and articles. His research interests, among others, are: Art History, History of Architecture and Construction, Religious Heritage, History of the Ornamental Stone Industry, Industrial Archaeology and Documentation Sciences.edit

A região que integra os concelhos de Estremoz, Borba e Vila Viçosa é uma das mais antigas e produtivas superfícies de extracção de mármores. Para além da actividade industrial, surge um novo desafio de âmbito turístico ou cultural. Utilizar o produto endógeno – mármore, como recurso turístico, tendo em vista o enriquecimento cultural e o desenvolvimento sustentável da região. Esta comunicação tem como objectivo espelhar as concepções nas quais se apoia o estudo para a implementação de um produto turístico denominado Rota do Mármore do Anticlinal de Estremoz

O valor do património industrial emerge do meio onde se insere, na sua paisagem que se revela como ícone e, também, nas relações que estabelece com o espaço e as memórias (Alves, 2004). La Evolucion Arquitectonica y Artistica de la Catedral de Santa Maria de Viseu. Desde la Edad Media hasta la Contemporaneidad es tesis doctoral dirigida a la elaboracion de un trabajo de investigacion capaz de hacer una lectura diacronica de una catedral que permanece desconocida en el panorama de estudios sobre catedrales medievales portuguesas. Los estudios mas detallados sobre la historia de la catedral de Viseu estan incluidos en los dos volumenes sobre la historia de la ciudad de Viseu que redacto Maximiano de Aragao a fines del siglo XIX, y en una cronica escrita por Manuel Botelho Pereira en el siglo XVII, y reeditada en los anos 50. Respecto a la produccion cientifica contemporanea, esta plasmada en articulos dispersos en un periodo cronologico que discurre entre los anos 20 y los anos 90 del siglo XX. En contenido, la historiografia visonense del siglo XX hasta hoy ha aplicado de forma generalizada una metodologia de analisis fundamentada en la evolucion estilistica y forma...

In this poster, we seek to disseminate a study in the field of Social and Human Sciences on the Heritage and History of the Marble Industry (PHIM), whit news approaches on the use of marbles in the identified architectural elements, in cities and tows of Portugal, in particular at Alentejo province

The research devoted to the study of quarries (extinct and active) and its relation with the historical-artistic heritage has been scarce in Portugal, noting the absence of a program that, at a national scale, identifies and promotes its social, economic and patrimonial potentialities.The current project based on interdisciplinary principles and practices, aims to highlight the importance of the marbles from Alentejo Anticline in a context of patrimonial and cultural valorization, in a region where the ornamental rock industry defines landscapes, shapes the economy and establishes ways of life. The knowledge reached from scientific research, disseminated through several platforms and intended for various audiences, will contribute to regional development, providing solid contents for an industrial and cultural tourism, attractive, sustainable and with quality.

The Heritage and History of the Marble Industry project (PHIM), based on interdisciplinary principles and practices, highlights the importance of the Portuguese marbles of Alentejo Anticline in a context of patrimonial and cultural valuation of a region where the ornamental rock industry defines landscapes, shapes the economy, and defines ways of life. Knowledge coming from scientific research is being disseminated through various platforms and audiences, contributing to regional development and providing solid contents for industrial and cultural tourism of quality. After two phases of the project that allowed to achieve broad knowledge about the application of the Alentejo marbles in the artistic heritage, the 3rd phase serves to expand the chronology under study (from Roman times to the 20th century) and to allow for new interdisciplinary perspectives, with the cooperation of History of Law and Economic History.
