The environmental Kuznets curve hypothesis was used as a theoretical framework. By applying the mean group dynamic least squares (DOLSMG) estimation approach and using carbon and greenhouse gas emissions as environmental indicators, the outcome validates the environmental Kuznets curve hypothesis but only in the United States and Germany. Material productivity, footprint and intensity exert a significantly negative impact on the environmental indicators, thus demonstrating the existence of a feasible sustainable consumption and production approach among the countries. By contrast, especially for the country-specific results, material productivity and intensity aggravated environmental degradation by increasing carbon and greenhouse gas emissions in France, Italy, and Japan. A robustness check using the Dumitrescu-Hurlin Granger causality approach aligns with the above-mentioned results. The findings suggest policy recommendations for a more effective approach to reducing material intensification across economic sectors in advanced economies.

It provides opportunity and insight on how to mitigate the negative externalities that arises from the increasing pressure on the ecosystem. Based on this account, the effect of economic complexity and the corresponding outlook on environmental degradation visa -vis greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions alongside other environmental indicators are examined for the panel of Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden for the period 1995 to 2020. After employing Driscoll-Kraay's standard errors for random effect (RE) with individual effects for the examination, the results indicate that the region's level of economic complexity favors environmental sustainability. Contrarily, the economic complexity outlook spurs GHG emissions, thus suggesting that future performance of the region's economic complexity could be detrimental to its ecosystem. Another similar, and undesirable observation is that the increase in urban population hampers environmental quality as it causes a surge in GHG emissions. Meanwhile, the results then conclude that economic growth, economic complexity, and environmental-related technologies are found to be potent drivers of environmental sustainability as the indicators exert negative pressure on GHG emissions in the Nordic region. Important policies that potentially guide immediate, and future sector-wide activities toward enhancing the region's sustainable development programs are posited through the study outcome.

To provide more insight on the drivers of ecological footprint in the overall panel and for each of the above-mentioned countries, the roles of economic complexity, average working hours, labour productivity, labour income share, and globalization were examined by employing the Dynamic Ordinary Least Squares Mean Group (DOLSMG) alongside the recently developed (non)time-variant Granger causality approaches. For the overall panel, the DOLSMG approach established that labour productivity, labour income share, and globalization reduce the biocapacity deficit by improving ecological quality while economic complexity worsen the region's environmental quality. Additionally, in the overall panel, there is Granger causality evidence from the average working hour, labour income share, labour productivity, globalization, and economic complexity to ecological footprint. Moreover, the results of the two Granger causality approaches are unanimous in evidence. For instance, average working hours per year is a significant causal of ecological footprint in all the sampled countries at varying periods. Specifically, there are Granger causalities: from labour productivity to ecological footprint in Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand; from globalization to ecological footprint in Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand; from economic complexity to ecological footprint in Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand, all at varying times.

The excessive utilization of fossil energy resources, especially on the production side, has contributed greatly to global warming by producing the greenhouse effect. In this respect, it is essential to assess the impact of foreign direct investment (FDI), which is expected to increase the production and employment of countries, on the utilization of fossil fuels. In this study, we investigate the relationship between FDI and fossil energy consumption (EC) utilizing such tests as: Johansen linear cointegration, Kapetanios, Shin, and Snell (2006) nonlinear cointegration, the linear Error Correction Model (ECM), Exponential Smooth Autoregressive (ESTAR) ECM, Granger (1969) linear causality, and Diks and Panchenko (2006) nonlinear causality. In this context, annual data covering the period between 1980 and 2020 are employed for the "Fragile Five" countries, which are: Brazil, Indonesia, India, Turkey, and South Africa. By applying the Augmented Dickey-Fuller (ADF) linear unit root test, we found that the series became stationary after taking the first difference. Following the unit root test results, Johansen's (1988) linear cointegration test results indicated that there existed a cointegration relationship from FDI to EC for Turkey and South Africa, while Kapetanios, Shin, and Snell's (2006) nonlinear cointegration test results revealed that there existed a cointegration relationship from FDI to EC in South Africa. In addition, the linear error correction model was proven to be valid for Turkey and South Africa, while the ESTAR nonlinear error correction model is valid only for Turkey. Finally, Granger's (1969) causality test results proved that there was a causal relationship from FDI to EC in Turkey. Dicks and Panchenko (2006) stated that there was no causal relationship between the variables.

The emergence of the COVID pandemic, before the effects of the 2008 global economic crisis had not evaded, triggered the dynamics of the economic crisis again. The European Union (EU) economy is also profoundly affected by the crisis. This paper explores the relationship between the number of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases and Europe's most important stock market indices by using time series analysis. While performing the analysis, three different models were created. In this context, the number of cases of COVID-19 has been used as independent variables, while DAX Index, CAC 40 Index, and Euronext 100 Index have been tested as dependent variables, respectively. The analysis results prove that there is a long-run cointegration relationship between variables. We also found that the Error Correction Model results are statistically significant. Consequently, the estimator results determine that the COVID-19 negatively affected the European stock markets.

In this context, linear and nonlinear unit root tests were used to determine the stationarity levels of the variables. Then, symmetric and asymmetric causality analysis was preferred to ascertain the relationship between the variables. Symmetric causality analysis results indicated a causality relationship from the exchange rate to the long-term debt stock, from the credit default swap (CDS) to the exchange rate, and from the exchange rate to the uncertainty index. The asymmetric causality analysis showed a causality relationship from positive shocks in the short-term debt stock to negative shocks in the exchange rate. Also, it was proven that there exists a causality relationship from negative shocks in the short-term external debt stock to positive and negative shocks in the exchange rate. Another result demonstrated a causality relationship between positive shocks in the exchange rate to negative shocks in the long-term debt stock. In addition, it was found that negative shocks in net capital investment were the cause of negative shocks in the exchange rate, while it was determined that there was a causality relationship from positive shocks in the net reserves to positive shocks in the exchange rate. In conclusion, the asymmetric causality relationship from positive shocks in CDS to positive shocks in exchange rates was detected.

The fact that capital developed new economic policies and production strategies to compensate for the declining profitability crisis of the 1970s is a result of its own condition of existence. The purpose of this study; to determine the extent to which the exit policies/strategies implemented under the name of neoliberalism affect working relations and living conditions of the working class. For this purpose; the effects of productivity and trade union density on labor income are investigated by using the data of 1970-2012 period for G-7 countries (Canada, Germany, Japan, Italy, France, England, USA) which are considered as the central countries of capitalism. In the empirical analysis; the unit root and cointegration tests which take into account the horizontal cross-sectional dependence were used. As a result of unit root test; the series becomes stable by taking the first differences. In the cointegration analysis considering structural breaks; the existence of the cointegration relationship between the series was accepted and the dates of structural breakage were consistent with the prior expectations. Finally, cointegration coefficients were estimated by CCE and CCMGE methods; ss a result of the analysis, it was seen that the increase in labor productivity had a negative effect on labor income. In the analysis which gives reliable results for the country units, this result is; It is statistically significant and interpretable for Italy, Japan and the United Kingdom. Throughout the panel, a linear relationship was found between trade union density and labor income. In other words, while the increases in the trade union density increase labor income; decreases in trade union density reduce labor income. However, this result is not statistically significant. In conclusion, this study presents empirical evidence on why capital wants to transform the working and living conditions of the working class as an exit strategy from the crisis.

The definition of crisis can be defined as the gap in development of a system, or a bottleneck in... more The definition of crisis can be defined as the gap in development of a system, or a bottleneck in development process. Financial crisis comes into existence by the result of a speculative effect in which the currency of a country is devalued or a speculative attack in which country officials spend substantial amount of national reserves or dramatically raise interest rates so as to increase consumption. Marxist approach argues that econimic crises in capitalist mechanism are caused by inner contradictions, which are comprised of decrease in profits, over production and the lack of consumption. Karl Marx argues that profits will be forced to decrease in the case of advancement of production techniques, the increase of fixed capital in comparison to the variable capital and the constant rate of surplus value. Hence, it can be argued that organic funds of capital has inverse proportion with profit rates, and that as the organic funds of capital increases, it will cause profit rates to decrease. However, he also argues that the downward tendency of profit rates can be supressed and can even be temporarily stopped. Marx asserts that the real obstacle of capitalist production is caused by capitals and thus crises caused by the internal contradictions of the mode of production are inevitable. Marxism further argues that another reason of the crisis in the capitalist economies is the overproduction caused by the unplanned production and investments of the entrepreneurs. As it can be observed, economists define crisis invariousways. Child employment is a problem that awaits a solution which should be a top priority in world agenda. Millions of children work in conditions that damage their physical, mental, educational, social, emotional and cultural development, which do not comform with the international standards and laws. Although it's impossible to specify the exact number of child workers in this day and age, according to the studies of the ILO, it is supposed that there are 250 million working children in the age brackets of 5 to 14, 283 million child workers in the age brackets of 12 to 17 and that due to their employment they can't attend school. Especially the employment of children within the age range of 6 to 17 are thought to be a means of decreasing costs of production. The reason of the aforementioned clause is that child labour, which is easily available to supression and abuse, and has lesser needs and costs, thanks to the technological advancement of production, can provide the labour of an adult for lesser cost (Substition Fffect). On the other hand, lower income residences benefit from child labour in addition to adult labour (Income Effect). In neoclassical economist theory, child labour is defined as inferior goods as capitalist system defines labour, whether done by adult or child, as meta just like other goods. To that end, this study will try to explain child labour will be used as a method to overcome the crisis and then continue over the long term through the arguments of the neoclassical economist theory with regards to the basic assumptions of the graphical model of Basu and Van (1998). In addition, it will also be explained that the system, in order to protect rate of profits or to increase it through an effect of opposite effect, will substitute child labour with adult labour over the long term and try to overcome the crisis.

Her iki nedensellik testinden, sanayi üretiminden GSYİH'a doğru tek yönlü nedensellik ilişkisinin varlığına ulaşılmıştır.

Abstract In the development of a country, the inclusion of women in employment as well as the employment of male labor has a vital importance. From past to present, women have had certain roles in the social, economic and commercial fields. Women's roles in the economy are limited to their work in certain occupational groups or their own businesses. Technological developments are also reflected in women's roles in business life. The mechanization process transformed labor activities based on muscle power that men could provide, and made it possible for women to be employed in these production areas. In addition, with the increase in the level of innovation and technology in countries, women have started to work in jobs that require basic knowledge and skills in business life or that require advanced knowledge and skills, not limited to certain occupational groups. The aim of this study was to analyze the relationship between the innovative activities of 15 developed OECD countries between 2000-2018, and the female labor force participation rate, unemployment rate and growth. As a result of the findings, it has been determined that as the innovative activities increase, the participation rate of women in the labor force increases, the unemployment rate decreases and it has a positive effect on the growth rate.
