During the restoration works in the St. James Cathedral, when the plaster was taken down from the southern and northern walls, 20 Khatchkars (Stone-Crosses) were discovered. Some of these Khatchkars bear inscriptions, the oldest of which is dated 1112 A.D.
So far this becomes the oldest inscription found in and out of the Cathedral and testifies on the existence of the St. James Church even before the present Cathedral was constructed in the 12th century.
The Article is written in Armenian and the English will soon follow!
