ABSTRACT The W Regional Park covers adjacent areas in Benin, Burkina Faso and Niger with Niger Ri... more ABSTRACT The W Regional Park covers adjacent areas in Benin, Burkina Faso and Niger with Niger River as its natural border in the Northern part. The aim of this study was to describe the diversity and dynamics of plant communities in this park. For that, Floristic and phytoecological data were collected using the phytosociological method of Braun-Blanquet (1932) and analyzed following the Detrended Correspondence Analysis (DCA) with Canoco software. Four syntaxa were described, 2 during the flooding period (Polygono senegalensis Echinochloetum colonae, Eichhornietum crassipedis Vanderlyst 1931) and 2 during the dry season when the level of the river was low (Leptochloo coerulescentis Stachytarphetetum angustifoliae and Cyperetum maculati Mandango 1982). In addition, results showed that the dynamics of plant communities was dependant on the River water regime. The flooding period is characterized by infestation of Eichhornia crassipes, while a decline of hydrophytes population progressively replaced by therophytes was observed when the water level dropped.
