In the article we review the current role of diffusion tensor imaging (DTI), a modern magnetic resonance (MR) technique, in the diagnosis and the management of cervical spondylotic myelopathy (CSM), the most serious complication of degenerative cervical spine disease (DCSD). The pathogenesis of DCSD is presented first with an emphasis placed on the pathological processes leading to myelopathy development. An understanding of the pathophysiological background of DCSD is necessary for appropriate interpretation of MR images, both plain and DTI. Conventional MRI is currently the imaging modality of choice in DCSD and provides useful information concerning the extent of spondylotic changes and degree of central spinal canal stenosis; however its capability in myelopathy detection is limited. DTI is a state of the art imaging method which recently has emerged in spinal cord investigations and has the potential to detect microscopic alterations which are beyond the capability of plain MRI. In the article we present the physical principles underlying DTI which determine its sensitivity, followed by an overview of technical aspects of DTI acquisition with a special consideration of spinal cord imaging. Finally, the scientific reports concerning DTI utility in DSCD are also reviewed. DTI detects spinal cord injury in the course of DCSD earlier than any other method and could be useful in predicting surgical outcomes in CMS patients, however technical and methodology improvement as well as standardization of acquisition protocols and postprocessing methods among the imaging centers are needed before its implementation in clinical practice.

The development of multislice CT technology enabled imaging of post-traumatic brain lesions with isotropic resolution, which led to unexpected results in the presented case An unconscious, 49-year-old male with a suspected trauma underwent a routine CT examination of the head, which revealed an unusual intracerebral bleeding and therefore was followed by CT angiography (CTA). The thorough analysis of CTA source scans led to the detection of the bleeding cause. The presented case showed that a careful analysis of a CT scan allows not only to define the extent of pathological lesions in the intracranial space but it also helps to detect the crime instrument, which is of medico-legal significance.

The aim of the study was to assess the impairment of the selected white matter tracts within normal appearing white matter (NAWM) in multiple sclerosis (MS) patients using diffusion tensor imaging (DTI). Thirty-six patients (mean age 33.4 yrs) with clinically definite, relapsing-remitting MS and mild disability (EDSS - Expanded Disability Status Scale 1-3.5) and 16 control subjects (mean age 34.4 yrs) were enrolled in the study. DTI examinations were performed on a 1.5T MR scanner. Fractional anisotropy (FA) and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values were obtained with a small ROI method in several white matter tracts within NAWM including: the middle cerebellar peduncles (MCP), the inferior longitudinal fasciculi (ILF), inferior frontooccipital fasciculi (IFOF), genu (GCC) and splenium of the corpus callosum (SCC), posterior limbs of the internal capsules (PLIC), superior longitudinal fasciculi (SLF) and posterior cingula (CG). There were no demyelinative lesions within the ROIs in any of the patients. A significant decrease in FA was found in MS patients in both the ILFs and IFOFs (p<0.001) and in the left MCP and right SLF (p<0.05), compared to the normal subjects. There were no significant differences in FA values in the remaining evaluated ROIs, between MS patients and the control group. A significant increase in ADC (p<0.05) was found only in the right PLIC and the right SLF in MS subjects, compared to the control group. The FA values could be a noninvasive neuroimaging biomarker for assessing the microstructural changes within NAWM tracts in MS patients.

Updating maps is a process where the main goal is to bring the content of spatial databases in their electronic and hardcopy versions up to the most current state. The three main tasks undertaken in updating maps are change detection, image interpretation, and metadata and geographic correction (i.e., georeferencing). However, an analysis of map update technology shows that the most time consuming and difficult in the process of detecting changes is the map itself. When raw aerial or orthophoto imagery is deployed the main method is photointerpretation that uses photogrammetric instruments and tools, as well as a variety of thematic maps and data from geodetic measurements. In the last decade, a number of studies have developed methods for automatic and semi-automatic identification of terrain changes. This paper describes a research effort in establishing a novel approach for geospatial data actualization. We performed a series of experiments where multiple geospatial data sets wer...

ABSTRACT This article presents 15 years of experience in the system of granting property manager licenses in Poland. It is presented both in terms of quantity and quality. The time horizon of the analysis covers the period 1997 - 2013, the period from the date of defining the profession of real estate manager which took place in the in the Land Management Act, to the present. For the purposes of the study authors analyzed nearly 30 acts directly regulating issues related to the procedure for granting a license of property manager. The survey shows six conditions imposed by legal acts to candidates for property managers, examines their dynamics in the entire study period and analyze correlation between each of them. In addition in contains results of analysis of over 24 000 records from Central Registry of Property Managers.
