Background: Glomus intraradices fungi and three bio-inoculants (Pseudomonas fluorescens, Trichoderma viride, and Trichoderma harzianum) are known to have certain beneficial effects on germination and seedling growth of several tropical fruit crops. A pot study was conducted to evaluate the effects of arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi and bio inoculants on seed germination and seedling growth of a papaya cultivar Gujarat Junagadh Papaya-1 at regional horticultural research station (RHRS), ASPEE College of Horticulture and Forestry (ACHF), Navsari Agricultural University, Navsari, Gujarat, India. Methods: The seeds of papaya were sown in the Monsoon season (June-Aug 2019) in polybags. The seeds of papaya were coated by AM fungi (G. intraradices), three bio inoculants, and their combinations. There were 9 treatments including control treatment. Results: An application of T. harzianum was found to be the most effective on seed germination and seedling growth by enhancing germination per...

Free-floating peritoneal masses found during laparotomy should arouse a suspicion of benign multicystic peritoneal mesothelioma and they must be removed and subjected to histopathological examination and immunochemical staining to ascertain their benign nature. The objective of the study was to report a rare case of benign multicystic peritoneal mesotheliomas. We report an incidental finding of multiple free-floating peritoneal masses in a pregnant primigravida woman with a normal antenatal course who underwent a cesarean section in a rural hospital setting in India for fetal distress. The masses were removed from the peritoneal cavity during the surgery and subjected to histopathological examination and found to be benign multicystic peritoneal mesotheliomas. Immunohistochemistry of the cysts revealed that the mesothelial cells lining the cysts were positive for calretinin and WT1 and negative for CD31.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to assess awareness about online classes and to assess if they can aid learning in the field of medicine amid lockdown. Methods: Online survey comprising a questionnaire related to the aspects of online teaching was undertaken. There were 16 questions, and responses were collected from undergraduates, postgraduates, and the teaching faculties. Results: Online classes were viewed favorably by the vast majority of respondents. Out of 412 respondents 79.9% actively attended the classes. While 42% felt the timings were inappropriate as they clashed with duty hours, a set of 35% had difficulty understanding the content and most of them were undergraduates. Poor internet connection was a main hindrance identified. In total, 69.2% respondents were happy with the feasibility of the classes and believed these classes had the advantage of being economical as they offered exposure to national and international faculty from the comfort of their homes. Conclusion: Conducting online classes on a national scale is a herculean task for a developing country because of poor internet connectivity and deficient access to high-speed broadband services. Nevertheless, their popularity among students during the current crisis shows that it is a very pragmatic and feasible teaching option and can definitely supplement traditional classroom teaching.

Background: Ivy gourd is the most nutritious and healthy vegetable among the underutilized vegetable crops. To increase the production effective nutrient management is key tool. Methods: The experiment on growth and yield improvement in ivy gourd through integrated nutrient management was conducted in a randomised block design with three replications at Regional Horticulture Research Station in ASPEE College of Horticulture and Forestry, Navsari Agricultural University, Navsari, Gujarat. Results: An application of 50% RDF (Recommended Dose of Fertilizer) + Bio-compost had a beneficial effect on growth parameters like minimum days to flowering (35.83 days) and fruit harvest (47.11), maximum dry biomass of shoot (8.41 kg) and dry biomass of root (840 g) with near to neutral fruit pH (6.8). Maximum length of fruit (5.12 cm), diameter of fruit (1.80 cm), weight of fruit (4.57 g), maximum fruit yield plant-1 (1.64 kg), highest fruit yield (16.60 t ha-1), maximum leaf nutrient content (N ...

Toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) is as rare as two cases per million per year, but the ocular manifestations and sequelae are very severe. We present a case series of seven patients admitted to the intensive care unit in a tertiary hospital with a diagnosis of TEN describing the extent of ocular involvement, its response to treatment, and appearance of sequelae. All seven were drug-induced with moderate-to-severe skin, mucosal, ophthalmic involvement, and systemic involvement. Ocular findings on presentation were eyelid skin detachment, adherent lid margins, bilateral mucopurulent conjunctivitis with inflammatory membranes, and punctate epithelial keratitis in all patients. Large persistent corneal epithelial defect was seen in four patients. On follow-up, five had severe keratoconjunctivitis sicca and entropion with trichiasis. Photophobia was the major debilitating sequelae. Early management was the key to reduce severity, cicatrization, and sequelae. Corticosteroids topically and systemically, topical cyclosporine, and lubricants were the mainstay of management.

The purpose of our study is to introduce a new Three-Column Classification for tibial plateau fractures and evaluate its reproducibility and reliability. From December 2004 to December 2006, 278 consecutive patients with tibial plateau fractures were treated operatively at the Department of Orthopedics and Trauma III in Shanghai Sixth People's Hospital. Computed tomography (CT) and three-dimensional reconstruction were preformed for each patient before open reduction and internal fixation. The approaches were instructed by the Three-Column Classification. To test the reproducibility of the Three-Column Classification, the interobserver and intraobserver reliability of this classification system compared with that of the Schatzker Classification was investigated by four observers. Fourteen cases could not be classified by Schatzker Classification. Meanwhile, all cases could be classified by the Three-Column Classification. Using plain radiographs, the mean κ values for interobser...
