Introduction: The advent of ChatGPT as an artificial intelligence (AI) tool has changed the classroom atmosphere among medical students leading to controversial issues in education, particularly in writing. Although some medical students exhibit strong inclination to use ChatGPT in their writing classes, most professors are still uncertain about the outcome. Methods: This study tries to assess medical students' attitudes toward using ChatGPT in their academics writing course held in the Fall semester, 2023. An intact class of medical students from Shiraz University of Medical Sciences (SUMS) took part in this qualitative research. Two semi structured interviews were conducted at the beginning of the course, prior to the implication of ChatGPT in revising their essay writing, and after completing the course. Braun and Clark thematic analysis was applied to analyze the interview data. Results: Six main codes were identified about using ChatGPT (i.e., familiarity, speed, vocabulary range, structure, teacher's role, plagiarism). At first, most students, whether those who were familiar with ChatGPT or those who had only heard of it, agreed with its positive effect. But after using ChatGPT, their opinions about using ChatGPT in class were changed. Conclusion: This study may provide an insight for educators who are interested in using AI in a learning environment. However, without professors' management, using ChatGPT in higher education cannot enhance students' writing skill efficiently. To this end, both students and their professors should increase their language knowledge and general knowledge to use it in the best and most effective way in education.

The aim of the current study was to verify the effect of N-acetyl cysteine (NAC) supplementation on markers of oxidative stress and inflammatory response during a single session of exhaustive exercise. In a randomized placebo-controlled double-blind clinical trial, thirty healthy, untrained young males and females with a mean age of 21.33±2.39 years, weight of 59.63± 9.24 kg and height of 166.20±10.15 cm were selected and divided into 2 groups. Before starting the supplementation, blood samples were collected from all the participants. The next blood samples were collected just before the exercise started, immediately after the exhaustive exercise and after one hour of rest. Malondialdehyde (MDA), total antioxidative capacity (TAC), CRP, BMI and Vo 2 max were determined. A significant increase was observed in MDA and CRP levels during the experiment in the placebo group. But in the treated group, the concentrations remained the same throughout the experiment. The TAC levels were sig...

This paper investigates the role of phonetics to the teaching of English language poetry in English language teaching classroom. One of the best ways of the teaching English poetry can be used through phonetics. What we should remember is that phonetics is a branch of linguistics, and thus it has central role in linguistics subject. Therefore, linguistics is the scientific study of language. A good knowledge of phonetics is very useful for English literature learners. In other words, the teaching of poetry along with phonetics rules in ELT classroom provides the English language learners the opportunity to appreciate language. The phonetics of a language can be viewed as a sound system of this language. Any scientific study of a language can be viewed as a theory of the structure of the language. There is, in fact, every language has a special system in understanding of the language. Note that the relationship between English literature and English linguistics can be considered as a...

This systematic review paper investigates a study of errors and English language teaching. This paper employed the systematic review approach and focuses on paragraph and essay writing errors in EFL setting. In general, in the history of English language teaching, place of error analysis is always considered as one of the major topics among syllabus designers, language teachers and linguists in order to help English language learners achieve greater fluency in their language. In general, in language classroom, error analysis has been used as a scientific work in order to get information about language learners' errors and resolve their problems in getting knowledge of language. In the history of applied linguistics, there have been two kinds of approaches are related to language errors, namely, contrastive and error approaches. However, research on both of them came back the work of Fries (1945) and Lado (1957) and Corder (1967). Contrastive analysis focuses on pedagogical orien...

Needs analysis is one of the major topics in the field of language acquisition research. Analysis of language learners' needs is seen as the first step towards preparation of language course. Hakuta and Cancino ( 1977: 294 ) stressed that "language provides one of the most readily accessible windows into the nature of the human mind. How children acquire this complex system with such apparent ease continues to fascinate the student of human language."

William Gerald Golding (1911–1993) was a British novelist and writer whose major theme centers around the darkness of man. He was a moralist writer who attempted to make us to realize the need for morality by focusing on the theme of evil and its consequences. This book is a study of the theme of evil in William Golding’s novels. In Golding’s recent novels, the focus on darkness (pain and suffering) is more obvious and it becomes something of a revelation, a sign of hope for man to move beyond his self-nature- from darkness to light. After a careful reading of Golding’s novels, we can conclude that according to Golding, this world is made hell because of the darkness of man’s heart. Man lost the notion of his oneness with people when he became self–centered. He lost the purity of his heart when self–centredness developed in him. Man contains states between his true self (god nature) and his self–centeredness (self–nature). According to Golding, this self–centerdness (self–nature) ha...

The main aim of this article is to discuss the place of Pragmatics in EFL classroom. Pragmatics is one of the branches of linguistics which is concerned with the study of meaning as com-municated by a speaker and interpreted by a listener. Pragmatics has fairly recently become the focuses of attention in language studies. On the other hand, it is important to remember that in recent years, pragmatics components have been used in language teaching contexts, syllabus design, by language teachers over the world. Many research works have been done by many language researchers in different aspects of pragmatics competence. Language teacher uses pragmatic as a functional approach in his/her language classroom. However, pragmatic follow the general principles for men when they communicate with others. Prag-matics study sentences not in isolation but with reference to the context of a situation and it is defined as the interaction between a sequence of language and the real-world situation ...

Aim of this paper is to discuss Place of Grammar in English Language Teaching. English Grammar as one of subjects in English setting always plays a good role in helping students of English language in order to have better understanding of their language. Today, the role of English grammar in teaching children at their schools should not be neglected even in England schools, because, grammar represents the students' linguistic competence. The pupils who speak and learn English language should know English grammar in order to use of the English rules to get better meaning of words and sentences in their language. This article aims to provide an overview of some of the issues related to contrastive analysis hypothesis in second language learning. Contrastive hypothesis is one of the branches of applied linguistics which concerns with the study of two systems of languages between first language and target language. Contrastive hypothesis has fairly played an important role in language studies. Thus, in recent years, contrastive analysis has been used in language teaching contexts, syllabus design, and language classrooms by language teachers over the world. Many research works have been done by many language researchers in different aspects of contrastive hypothesis and also error analysis in the world. Language teachers always see contrastive analysis as a pedagogical imperative in target language and they use it as a functional approach in language classroom. However, contrastive hypothesis follows the errors of language learners in second language education.

The collection of this systematic article was an attempt to show a survey of current activities in the field of error analysis in English language from 2012 to 2018 in Iran. In the country, English is being taught as Foreign Language from middle school. Khansir and Gholami Dashti (2014) mentioned that English accepted as language to pass in the examination. However, English system in this country often put on formal accuracy and teachers focus on the teaching of English grammar in their classes. Error analysis approach has been a widely discussed topic for more than 60 years over the world. However, all the findings of this paper from previous research works on error analysis can be good reasons in order to guide and help reduce such errors in the written language of Iranian students in EFL setting and the results of this work can also be used to as a guide for English learners over the world.  This article identifies and presents the major reasons leading to the English written err...

The aim of this paper is to indicate place of linguistics in English language teaching. This paper investigates how knowledge of linguistics can help to English language teaching in ELT classrooms. Linguistics always plays a vital role in studying language in general and English language in particular in ELT settings. Linguistics shares with human language, even attribute to other sciences can help us to understand our language. Linguistics has been concerned with language. Linguistics can be defined as the study of language. However, linguistics and language are closely intertwined, so discussion of one necessarily involves the other. Linguists, on the other hand, have long been aware of the fact that people learn and use languages. This paper focuses specially on language teaching and discusses the relation between linguistics and English language teaching.

Education at the university level is obviously stressful. The general aim of this paper is to study the correlation between stressful areas and students' academic progression at the Shiraz University of Medical Sciences. This is a cross-sectional research study. Three hundred and fifteen nursing and medical students were chosen by stratified random sampling. This data was collected via a questionnaire, which included demographics, stressors at educational, clinical and personal areas and supportive sources while the subjects cope with stress. To determine validity of the questionnaire, content and constructive validity were used. The reliability of the questionnaire was estimated by using Cranach's in educational (93%), clinical (85%) and personal (90%) areas. The statistical method which was applied in this study included inferential and descriptive analysis. Results included that most students presented mild stress in educational, clinical and personal areas, although it was more noticeable in clinical area. The level of stress decreased in educational and clinical areas with increasing age and it reached the height in these areas in the subjects under the age of 20 (P= 0.003). There was more stress in females than males in educational and clinical areas (P= 0.003). There was more stress in the students of nursing than students of medicine in clinical area (P= 0.04). The level of stress in the subjects who were satisfied with their academic course was lower than subjects who were dissatisfied in clinical area. (p=0.004). There was no significant correlation between academic progression and level of stress at educational, personal and clinical areas. Supportive source were mostly parents, the performance of religious duties and the means to find peace, friends and classmates, brothers and sisters, counsellors, and relatives. The results also indicated that some of the students did not seek help during stress and remained speechless. Considering the fact that most of the subjects presented stress in clinical area, the sources of stress in students, particularly stress caused by educational and clinical areas, must be evaluated carefully. On the other hand, it is necessary to teach students how to reduce and cope with stress.
