ABSTRACT This paper provides a short overview on the state of the art in electromagnetic transduction based chipless RFID sensors. These types of sensors can be used for various applications including structural health monitoring, pressure, airflow and displacement detection, temperature, humidity, partial discharge monitoring and so on. A novel concept of high resolution crack sensing using super wideband antenna is also introduced here along with a brief review on airflow and partial discharge sensors.

4th generation chipless tag based on multiresonators is presented. The tag consist of a UWB monopole antenna loaded with multiple cascaded spiral EBGs which have a 1:1 correspondence with data bits. The 4th generation tag is less sensitive to tag orientation and has smaller size than earlier generations of the tag. A proof-of-concept tag is developed and tested which has

Defected ground structure (DGS) has been analysed in terms of various microstrip discontinuities (quasi static approach). It has been shown that the junction capacitance plays an equally important role in determining the position of attenuation pole of the unit cell DGS as the gap capacitance. Theory is validated against simulation results by commercially available MoM Solver CST design environment. Good agreements between simulated and calculated results validate the theory.

Road safety is a key problem in today's society. A novel application for the regulation of vehicle speed, trajectory, stopping and parking using chipless RFID tags installed into/on the road is proposed. The RFID reader with antennas installed under the vehicle scans the on-road tags and acquires essential regulatory data such as addresses, speed limits, parking permits. The chipless RFID

A novel chipless RFID transponder is presented that is both compact in size and robust in terms of performance. The transponder components have been designed and analysed using a full wave electromagnetic solver as well as with measurements using a vector network analyzer and in an anechoic chamber. The novel transponder consists of a linearly polarized UWB circular monopole antenna
