Organizations and developers worldwide saw it as an opportunity to expand their reach in various sectors. Mobile news app is also one sector, which is no less behind. The paper seeks to explore the dynamics of media convergence between legacy media and the new media industries; the transformations that they have undergone over time to keep up with the changing times and to assess the changing user reading patterns. The research draws on industry interviews with media personnel to understand the changes that the organisation has made to its corresponding news app vis-à-vis its traditional media outlet. These narratives enabled the researchers to explore the implications of the content available on the mobile news applications and their causal relationship with reading habits and consumption behaviour of users with the help of an audience survey. User behaviour such as short attention span, lack of time and constant inflow of media on the internet are few reasons cited for the spurt in news apps. It also studied the user behaviour and the reasons behind the convergence of old and new technology, which would in turn equip them to make more immersive and user friendly user interfaces in mobile apps.
