    Background: Pediatric patients on chemotherapy are vulnerable to invasive fungal infection especially Candida spices. Resistance to antifungal agents has increased in Candida spp., especially in non-albicans species. This study aims to assess the susceptibility of Candida spp. strains isolated from children with acute leukemia less than 18 years. Materials and Methods: This prospective cross-sectional study was conducted during March 2011 to March 2012. Participants were 188 children aging from 1 month to 18 years, who had acute leukemia, were admitted in Amir Oncology Hospital affiliated to Shiraz University of Medical Science, Shiraz, Iran.     Most of the microspore-derived embryos can not regenerate normally in rapeseed. The effects of gibberellins (GA3), abscisic acid (ABA), and embryo desiccation on normal plantlet regeneration were studied. The donor plants were grown in a growth chamber at day/night temperatures of 15/10˚C with a 16/8h photoperiod, respectively. Microspores were isolated from whole buds of 2.5-3.5mm in length, containing late-uninucleate and early-binucleate microspores, and cultured in modified NLN13 liquid medium. After 30 days, cotyledonary embryos were transferred to B5 medium. The study of GA3 concentrations (0, 0.05, 0.1, 0.15, 0.2 mg/l) showed that the use of 0.1 and 0.15 mg/l of filter sterilized GA3 were the optimum treatment for normal plantlet production (50% and 44%, respectively).     Systemic candidiasis, are common infections during the neutropenic phase. The aim of this study was to identify quantitative Candida species ribosomal DNA using TaqMan technology for diagnosing candidiasis and monitoring them during hospitalization. During the prospective, cross-sectional study, from September 2006 to September 2007, a total of 375 clinical blood specimens were collected from 35 patients with hematologic disorders once a week pretransplant and posttransplant. Patients were evaluated for systemic candidiasis during hospitalization. Cultures from the throat, urine, feces, and sputum, along with sonography and computerized tomographic scans, were done when patients were febrile and not having a response to antibiotics.     Systemic candidiasis is a significant cause of morbidity and mortality in patients with hematologic disorders. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of systemic candidiasis and the efficiency of the polymerase chain reaction-enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (PCR-ELIZA) method for the early detection of Candida spp. in patients with hematologic malignancies. From 2004 to 2006, 194 patients with hematologic malignancies were evaluated for systemic candidiasis. Collected blood samples were assayed using the PCR-ELISA method for the presence of the bands on ethidium bromide stained gel, and for hybridization with Candida spp. as well. The female-to-male ratio was 61:133, the mean age was 33.7 years, and the mean hospitalization period was 21.2 days.     Orbital mucormycosis caused by Zygomycetes is a rare and fatal infection that generally affects the patients who are immunocompromised. Despite antifungal therapy and aggressive surgical intervention, mucormycosis can cause serious and rapidly fatal infections if delayed diagnosis or therapeutic management occurs. Here, we report orbital mucormycosis in a healthy boy, with a favorable outcome after aggressive treatment. He has had no recurrence since the end of his treatment. A 2-year old healthy boy, some days after entry of dust particle to his left eye presented with swelling and redness of the eye. With diagnosis of "periorbital cellulitis" intravenous antibiotics vancomycin (40 mg/kg/day) and ceftriaxone (75 mg/kg/day) were started but no improvement was observed. The results of biopsy and tissue culture led us to a diagnosis of mucormycosis. Orbital exenteration, combined with intravenous amphotericin B (1 mg/kg/day), resulted in the patient's survival.
