Protease activated receptors (PARs) populate neurons and astrocytes in the brain. The serine protease thrombin, which activates PAR-1 during the first hours after stroke, appears to be associated with the cytotoxicity. Thrombin antagonists and PAR-1 inhibitors have been correlated with reduced cell death and behavioral protection after stroke, but no data yet support a mechanistic link between PAR-1 action and benefit. We sought to establish the essential role of PAR-1 in mediating ischemic damage. Using a short hairpin mRNA packaged with green fluorescent protein in a lentivirus vector, we knocked downPAR-1 in the medial caudate nucleus prior to rat middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAo) and in rat neurons prior to oxygen-glucose deprivation. We also compared aged PAR-1 knockout mice with aged PAR-3, PAR-4 mice and young wild-type mice in a standard MCAo model. Silencing PAR-1 significantly reduced neurological deficits, reduced endothelial barrier leakage, and decreased neuronal ...

Data Mining (DM), the extraction of hidden predictive information from large databases, is a powerful new technology with great potential to help the Libraries and Information Centers to focus on the most important information in their data warehouses. Data mining popularly known as Knowledge Discovery in databases is the automated or convenient extraction of patterns representing knowledge implicitly stored in large databases. The present study attempts to know the meaning of data mining, importance and its process. Explains the different steps of data mining and its implementation in libraries. Finally suggests the guideline to choose a data mining system.

A library can expand its community and be more transparent via using web technologies. A certain level of modification in the existing system can make library human, ubiquitous, and more user-centered. The concrete requirement is to transform a library into a complete web based environment. The present study is an attempt to discuss the journey of new emerging web technologies from web 1.0 to web 3.0. Explains the application areas of web 2.0 and their usages, web based tools and their use in libraries. Finally draws a comparison of web 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0 and also evaluates these.

The present study describes the reading skills prospects and challenges of the students of Government Arts and Commerce College, Indore, M.P. India. Attempt to know the response of the student this study adopts the questionnaire method for collection of data. To select the sample population, random sampling method has been used. Accordingly the questionnaire was distributed among 350 students of Government Arts and Commerce College, Indore, out of which 300 responded. The study reveal that a majority of respondents i.e. 116(38.6%) spend 2-4 hours daily for reading and 65(21.6%) are in the favour of guided tour to promote the reading skills. Lack of latest information is a most common encountered by the majority of respondents 105(35%), while 68(22.6%) respondents have problem with time due to busy schedule of classes. Finally highlights the suggestions for improvement of reading skills among the students.

Explore the accessibility of manuscripts, facilities and services provided in the Library, Kundakunda Jnanapitha, Indore, Madhya Pradesh, India. Discuss about the manuscripts containing the glorious ancient knowledge of Indian heritage and treasure. The main objective was to identify the satisfaction level of the users regarding collection, services, facilities, especially manuscripts resources provided by the library and find out the major problems encountered to access the digital manuscripts available in the Kundakunda Jnanapitha library. A well structured questionnaire was used to collect primary data. 150 questionnaires were distributed among the users and 122 were received and analysed. The maximum respondents (78.68 %) had high satisfaction with digital manuscripts and 80.32 per cent indicated less number of terminals as very high problem. Consequently suggests improvement strategies for better utilisation of the library resources.
